What our customers say
Have stayed twice at this hotel (Nov 2006 and April 2007) - each time for one night. First time very thing went very smoothly - apart from parking. Hotel patking full so had to park in Sainsburys and dash out to put money on it, which was a bit aggravating as planned to sleep late that morning.
April visit alas not smooth - had booked 2 for family. Needed double + twin but got 2 doubles - not ideal with child. Check in slow - even with 3 people doing arts of it for me. Decor OK but 'tired'. Breakfast good choice but poor service; dinner the night before had been fine with excellent service; standard shouldn't be that variable. Booking was a deal including free cocktails and free visit to Plymouth Gin factory. Reaction in bar to enquiry about cocktails was panic 'I can't do cocktails. We don't get many of these bookings'. We got free drinks instead, but the chargeable drinks we had they couldn't process because the bar till was down, settled for adding them to dinner bill. Gin factory tour - originally told just to turn up at the factory and say we were staying at the Copthorne. Luckily someone else at desk knew we had to have signed voucher to take with us. However information on frequency of tours was incorrect so we were left with just one we could go on. (It was excellent!) Checkout was fiasco - staff in meeting, computers down, etc. Took about 40 minutes. I was anxious to check for extras on the bill and I needed tokens for car park very cheap £3.50 per visit (not per day) - cheaper than on street parking which is £1.10 an hour. If you stayed more than a day you would save a fortune! Would I go again - maybe - on a good deal but would certainly check out other hotels as well. This is probably tyhe most handy one for a) station and b) university.
