Good for the money.

For a 2 star hotel this is a good choice. It is 5 story and fairly basic but very clean, with very helpful staff. There is TV in the room and a heater but not air conditioning (might be a drawback in the summer) and I found the lighting a bit dim. No central light apart from a small spotlight at the doorway, 2 rather high and inefficient wall lights and and 2 lamps over the far side of the room fed off an adapter in the only plug in the room. Not very handy if you need to use the plug for anything else. There is also a good basic buffet breakfast with no limit on the amount you eat. Drinks are availble all day from the hot drinks machine at a cost of 1.80 euros (even for hot water). There is also a good working lift - very important as the stairs are awful! They are narrow and windy and it is nearly impossible to pass anyone on the stairs. The locality is fairly quiet about a 10 minute walk from the railway station but only a short walk from the tram stop and the main Avenue. Quite a few shops and restaurants in the vicinity so plenty of choice. A base for a holiday.

Short Break in Nice
04 December 2007
I booked this hotel for a short break in Nice, the price was cheap so was not quite sure what to expect. Well for the cost I cannot fault it, it was clean, the staff were excellent, the breakfast was good, the location was quiet. I will definitely consider it again on my next trip to Nice.

In relation to outlay, a FANTASTIC hotel. Beautiful rooms, a superb breakfast, good staff and a good location at the top of perhaps the main pedestrian throroughfare in Nice.
If you are on a basic budget, this is magnificent value, if you are pretentious or ultra picky, then look somewhere else.

Fantastic value !
30 October 2007
Just a little gem of a hotel. Clean room; attractive, smiling, helpful reception staff ; 24-hour reception with access all times day or night ; breakfast from 6:30 till 10:00 to suit all tastes. And all for a ridiculously reasonable price ! My wife and I would definitely return like a shot. Merveilleux !
By the way, it is a leisurely 20-minute stroll to the town centre and beach for the able-bodied.
Merci beaucoup to the staff if you read this !

Review of 'Comte De Nice'

this hotel is very cheap but dont go on the price as it is a clean and friendly hotel to stay in. on arrival we had a choice of 4 rooms settling for room 406 which was a nice double room overlooking the front of the hotel. it was a room with a bath and room enough for 2 to move round comfortably. as the weather was not good the room was nice and warm. the breakfast was plentiful with bread rolls, croisants, cereal, fruit cocktail yoghurts, meat, cheese and jam. plenty of hot drinks also. no coffee machine in the bedroom but one in the reception. reception is small but made very welcoming with english magazines. staff all young girls were knowledgable and very friendly. it was a short walk down the main shop area to the promenade. the train station was about 5 minutes walk and we travelled to monte carlo and monace for 4 euros each. buses were also very plentiful and just around the corner near the Spar shop. in the hotel towels and beding were changed even though we were only there for 2 nights. plenty of restaurants and loads of macdonalds to choose to eat in. on arrival at the airport it is best to get the airport bus for 4 euros each to the train station and then a very short walk. other option is the local 23 bus but the drivers are not aware of the hotel just ask for the train station. overall despite the weather this has been a very cheap and cheerful break. would do the hotel again.

Review of 'Comte De Nice'

This is a fairly basic, but very clean five-storey hotel with a reliable lift. The friendly receptionists speak good English and normally offer a choice of two bedrooms. After viewing both, we chose 401. It was clean & spacious with three single beds and a TV. The compact bathroom was clean and adequate for our needs. The buffet breakfast consists of rolls, croissants, ham, salami, cheese, coffee, tea, and orange juice.
The hotel is in a quieter part of Nice, but a long walk from both the seafront and main bus station. A few restaurants, bars, shops and two supermarkets are nearby, and a large pay car park is next door. The main railway station is a 10 minute walk, but a small provincial one is 3 minutes away through the car park. It is rather seedy around the main railway station, but there are plenty of cheap eating places in that vicinity; including Chinese/Asian self-service restaurants. A French restaurant chain named 'Flunch' has a branch near the station and sells reasonably good quality food. You pay a few Euros for the main dish (steak, fish, meat, etc), and help yourself as often as you like to the selection of vegetables. A meal, a glass of wine, and a coffee costs 10 Euros.(Feb 2007).
If you are over 60 and intend to use the railways, ask for a 'Decouverte senior age a justifier' discount when buying a ticket. We have used this without problem and saved quite a few Euros, but it's not available at the weekend.
There are two bus services from the airport to the railway station. Express bus 99 costs 4 Euros to the station, and the slower No 23 bus from platform 6 costs 1.30 Euros. Normally the 23 goes on beyond the station and passes within 250 mtetres of this hotel, but major roadworks currently divert it in a slightly different direction after it has left the station. However, the return No 23 bus to the airport calls at a temporary bus stop diagonally across the road from the Spar supermarket on Rue Vernier. The supermarket is three minutes walk from the hotel. The No 23 bus is expected to resume its normal route in early 2008.
Overall, this hotel is good value for the money.

29 November 2006
The hotel is situated off a quiet street in Nice. Breakfast @ approx £3.50 was excellent value for money. The rooms were clean and tidy ( although you would have to love wood) The staff were friendly and spoke English, although they love when you try to speak French.
If I went back to Nice I would be more than happy to stay.

When we first walked in the girl on reception was far from friendly which did not deter us as for the rest of our stay we did not see her,the rest of the staff more than made up for her. The hotel is clean, the rooms are mostly small, shower's are good, beds are comfortable. Breakfast is buffet style eat as much as you like coffee very nice.Easy for the trains and buses which are cheap and pleasant espically the bus drivers who went out of their way to help us.Plenty of resturants reasonably priced a good bargain can be found in the shops if prepared to look.First day take the tour bus to get your bearings.Have plenty of small change. There is a lot of building work going on as a new tramway is being installed this did not pose any problems be careful if walking.Lift in the hotel is excellent.Have already booked to return.

Review of 'Comte De Nice'
17 August 2006
We enjoyed our stay at the Comte de Nice hotel, The hotel had friendly staff that were helpfull, Rooms were basic but clean and comfortable. The breakfast was continental but you could eat as much as you liked and was appetising. The hotel is situated quite near to the railway station but a fair distance from the Promenade des Anglais ( about 20 mins. walk.) We only found one good restaurant near the hotel and a supermarket quite close. The surrounding area is less than salubrious and there is a lot of traffic noise and barking dogs!!but we walked back to the hotel late at night without any problem.
