Review of 'COLUMBUS STUDIOS'
30 June 2005
What makes this place a decent choice is its low cost and great location more than the quality of the establishment or any services offered. It is two blocks from mid-Central Park, near the reservoir, the Delacorte Theatre (where at the right time of the year, there is free Shakespeare!), the Museum of Natural History, and the Met. Aside from the park there are plentiful bars and restaurants nearby.
The room itself, containing a double bed, a small fridge, a microwave, and a sink, shared between my girlfriend and myself, barely matched the pictures shown on any website about the place. It was hardly clean as others have said, and air-conditioning (a window fan whose cable was too short to allow it to actually reach the window) and security (old and loose locks on seemingly strong doors) were more or less non-existent.
Nonetheless, it was not without its charms, one of which was sitting on the fire escape and admiring the view of the water towers on the tops of all the tall buildings to the north.
