Quiet area, loud floors...

19 August 2008
This hotel is very convenient for the tube, close to Lancaster gate station, and also not far from Paddington, so good for connecting to Heathrow. Continental breakfast was included in the price, although sadly not the 'Full English' breakfast, and the headboard was broken on the bed, but these are small niggles... It was nicely decorated, although the floor creaked like in a horror movie! We will certainly stay here again if possible.

Perfect

04 August 2008
Yes, it's a bit dated, decor-wise, but it is clean.. even clean enough to walk on the carpet barefoot ( I'm sure there'll be many of you out there who'll understand that!?) It's in a great location on the central line and bus route which served us brilliantly for our 4 night stay. I expected the worse for the money and was thrilled that exceeded expectations. We stayed on the top floor in a smoking room which didn't smell of smoke at all and was a real novelty. We didn't try the breakfast as we enjoyed eating out. The staff were pleasant and the coke in the machine was only 70p! For regular trippers who really just want a great location, cleanliness and plenty of hot water it's a real winner! We'll definitely stay there again.

SISTERS TOGETHER

Stayed 3 nights. Check in very easy. Allocated twin room 215 on front of hotel. Appeared ok at first BUT the ants came out in the bedroom. ( Hotel dealt with the problem immediately. Room closed and rentokil called in ) Reception quickly offered an alternative which was acceptable to us. No ants. Looked a bit in need of refurbishment but had a very comfortable bed and was clean. Plenty of hot water, kettle etc. Staff could not do enough for us. They were friendly and ready to help. Continental breakfast included in the tariff was croisants, rolls and toast with jam, one glass of orange juice and a cup of tea or coffee. Sufficient for our needs with other food on offer at a reasonable additional cost and freshly prepared. Dining room, drawing room and guest lounge were comfortable, clean and charming. Redecoration of some elaborate conference rooms had commenced and were in keeping with the opulent style of bygone years. This hotel was opposite Hyde Park and handy for buses and the tube into the bustling part of the town. Very convenient to walk to the Royal Albert Hall across the park, but needing buses to return at night as the park was closed. (20 minutes stroll) I would stay there again as it was in a quiet area.

Room was fine...

30 June 2008
Stayed for 1 night after attending a concert in Hyde Park. Very handy location! Check-in was efficient. Room was clean, large and airy, although the decor was rather tired. The bed was comfy enough. Breakfast (included) was VERY limited - tea, juice and some rather uninspired rolls / toast. Other items were available on the menu at reasonable cost, though. Would I stay here again...? Yes, for a quick trip.

Great value for money

29 May 2008
This hotel was excellent value for money. We loved the location (opposite Hyde Park). Even though the decor is dated, that becomes part of its charm and everywhere was spotlessly clean. The staff were all great and extremely polite and friendly. Loved it. Will definately stay here when we visit London again.

Nice clean, tidy and friendly hotel. Perfect location and very good value. Lack of hot water in the bathroom was the only problem. Recommended to colleagues who are now planning to book a stay there. A hotel I'd definitely use again and take my family to.

Hotel was just what you need on a sightseeing visit to London, clean and close to many of the sights. Staff were very polite and helpful, the only thing that wasn't quite what we expected was the breakfast, a little bit basic but overall very good value for money.

Good

17 March 2008
Really good sized rooms, especially for london. Hotel is all clean and looks good. Views over Hyde park are nice too. Only down side was the breakfast, the inclusive breakfast consists of a couple of slices of toast and a bread bun. You have to pay extra for the rest of your breakfast, if you are hungry.

Good value for money

11 March 2008
Stayed in a triple room, quite spacious for this part of London, overlooking Hyde Park. Great shower, perfectly good continental breakfast included in the price, efficient staff - very pleased to see some extras I wouldn't have expected from a 2 Star hotel, such as tea/coffee making facilities and basic toiletries in the bathroom.

Second visit to this hotel, last time had huge twin room, this time had small double. Hotel warm, clean & tidy. Sufficient continental breakfast. Handy for travelling to west end with regular buses or tube. Accomodation dated but clean and for excellent for the price. Only downside had to wait ages for hot water for a shower in the evening and to fill the basin for a wash in the morning. At least the hotel had smoking rooms (a plus in this day!). Will definitely use this hotel again when up in town for a show

Excellent Value for Money

28 January 2008
Excellent value for money in London. Went with a friend for a girly weekend, Jan 08, plenty of room for both of us to get ready. the Hotel is Clean, spacious and a great location. 2mins walk from Tube the No.94 night bus passes hotel and runs 24 hrs. The Hotel is in need of updating but if prepaired to accept condition its a perfect hotel to visit London attractions or Theatre.

Fine

This hotel is located in an excellent position - just a 2 minute walk to the closed underground and just across the road from Hyde Park. The rooms are OK - need some updating. For the price I paid in central London this a steal!

Fan-Flippin-Tastic... This was a great hotel, only stayed one night but I'm a regular visitor to London and this is the hotel I'm going to be staying in now. There wasn't one negative thing I can say about this hotel. The single room was spacious and very clean, the decor was dated, but that's how they had intended it to look. A fabulous Victorian property. Full marks.

We stayed for 1 night on Tues 13th Nov. The hotel room was spotless and quite a good size. The room and the whole Hotel were nice and warm and the staff friendly. We found the bar and lounge area relaxing and the continental breakfast was good with plenty of rolls. We were able to leave our suitcase i the lobby all day without charge. A great location especially for Kensington Palace and the Diana exhibition. We would definately stay there again.

Stayed 29th September. Excellent value for money. Although the decor is a little dated the room was absolutely spotless. There was parking facilities which for London was excellent. Only a stone throws from Hyde Park. Near to bus and underground but also very handy if you enjoy a walk. Staff very curteous and service was brilliant. Thanks for a lovely weekend.

Columbia Hotel review

29 August 2007
Stayed 22nd august for One night, was allocated huge room which was excellent value for money, considering other London Hotel rooms I have stayed in recenly that have been small and twice the price and continental breakfast included in the price. Decor dated, but clean and tidy - what more do you need! Situated in ideal spot - only couple of stops on the tube or bus for the west end, near to plenty of restaurants on Queensway, easy walking distance for Hyde Park and Kensington Park. Will definitely keep in mind for future trips to London

Columbia - Excellent Value

25 August 2007
The Columbia is definitely a hotel I will be returning to and is excellent value for money. Great location on northern edge of Hyde Park and only 15min walk or a short bus or tube ride to Oxford Street. The hotel is dated, there is no escaping that, but furnishings, including beds, mattresses and linen were fine. Our twin room overlooked Hyde Park and, with its bathroom, was spotlessly clean. Continental breakfast, included in price, was adequate and coffee refill was offered without having to be requested. Staff were friendly and efficient. For the price, you wont find better in London!

Columbia Hotel W2

23 July 2007
The Columbia has loads of character. Nice location overlooking Hyde park depending on which one of the many rooms you get. Lancaster Gate tube 5 mins walk from hotel. West End about 10 mins by tube. Room was modestly furnished, some what dated but did the job. Same for the en-suite. Room decor was also dated and is due for a bit of TLC especially in such a grand old building such as this. Very clean. Staff friendly and helpful. Full English breakfast is good value as is the bar. Good value for money. Have to rate 5 out of five for the overall experience. Cant think of a reason not to return.

Columbia - highly recommended

27 April 2007
I was very pleasantly surprised by the Columbia - a real bargain. It's a large Georgian building which could have been an embassy in a previous life. Very big, bright and airy. Cheerful and helpful reception staff who clearly take pride in providing good customer service - very refreshing. My single room was very clean and traditionally furnished. The floorboards creaked a lot but that's just part of the character! Obviously not a 5 star hotel but for the money, staff, cleanliness and location - definitely worth 5 out of 5.

Review of 'COLUMBIA'

23 March 2007
After reading the previous review i was a little wary of what to expect, but on arrival we needn't have worried. Here is an older type property with that Georgian type splendour with its sweeping central staircase, and lifts to all floors.
Our room was well appointed, maybe some travellers would expect newer furniture, but to be honest that would be out of place in this setting! The reception staff are very helpful and efficient. We found the bar to be reasonably priced, service is available until 2.30am if you can stay the pace!
Breakfast was a traditional continental affair, but to upgrade to "Full English" is quite reasonable.
All-in-all we would definately use this hotel again should we return to London.

You get what you pay.  Don't expect the Ritz!  Quite a well worn place without any extras, but the service and employees were all excellent.  Only complaint was that the non- smoking room stank of tobacco smoke.   Would return for the convenience of the place
