Stylish but over-priced
08 October 2006
Arrived at 2.00pm for a friend's wedding in the hotel at 4.30. No room was ready for at least an hour, so we were offered a free drink in the bar. It was a good job it was free because two glasses of champagne were priced at £45!
The room was eventually available at 15.30. It was stylish but small. The furniture was tired and cracked. The aircon was noisy and not very effective. The TV could not receive movies or teletext and the wardrobe shelves had been removed. A better room could be had at almost any other hotel for much less than the £360 we paid for one night.
Breakfast was reasonable, but the kitchen could not make porridge with milk, nor provide a cup of cocoa.
Claridge's trades on its reputation. What a pity it manages to dupe most of its customers. I certainly won't be going there again.
