Excellent!

15 October 2008
I booked a room here for three nights as a surprise for my husband for our first anniversary and it was the perfect choice. The room was lovely, well presented and a good size. The same can be said for the bathroom. There was a good choice for breakfast, from full cooked to fruit and cereal. The staff were excellent, very professional and friendly. We will definitely be visiting Edinburgh again and Channings will be our first choice of accomodation.

EXCELLENT!!!!

28 April 2008
We have just returned from a weekend at Channings. The staff were all excellent and friendly. Breakfast was lovely and more than enough to set you up for the day. We didn't eat in the restaurant but ordered food from room service, which was yummy and brilliant value. Also had a few drinks in the bar on Friday evening, very good atmosphere. It is a healthy walk into the centre but staff will happily order a taxi and never had to wait more than a few minutes. The room was fine and I will stay there the next time I go to Edinburgh.

CHANNINGS - Shame about Dinner

06 August 2007
We stayed at Channings on Saturday 4 August 2007, whilst visiting Edinburgh for the Tattoo. It is located in a quiet area, about 20 minutes gentle stroll from Princes Street and about 3 minutes from the nearest bus stop, so very handy. The front desk staff and welcome was very pleasant and we were taken to our room by Scott, a local lad with good knowledge and very happy to help with directions etc. The room was not huge, but big enough for the 2 of us, the bathroom light and airy and stocked with Molton Brown toiletories which went down well. Lunch on the patio was superb and relaxed and the bar staff great, a good bit of banter and very efficient. Dinner was a different matter and the staff here let down the whole hotel, making our stay somewhat disappointing. The food was fine, if a little pretentious, but the staff gave the impression that we should have taken it as an honour to eat in THEIR establishment. A very disappointing and irritating experience. Breakfast was taken in the room ,after reading previous reviews where this was a major recommendation. It was not a culinary delight, although it was delivered by a smiling and pleasant waiter. the quality of what was served up did leave a lot to be desired, but maybe if we had a more pleasant dinner the evening before, we would have overlooked it. In all, I would say given the choice go to the Roxburghe instead. As for the dining room staff at Channings it's a shame that you let your colleagues down on Saturday night. Remember it's a four star hotel dining room not Michelin Star Restauant. People go to the hotel to stay for the evening and then eat in the dining room, eating here is not the reason for staying. Act accordingly !

We were greeted by friendly 'front of house' staff and shown to our rooms by an extremely friendly and knowledgable young man called Scott  Scott proceeded to deliver our cases to our room and provide good information regarding the location of the hotel in relation to the city and also enquired about our intentions during our stay, providing useful advice including that of transport in the area as we chose to leave our car at the hotel during our stay. (incidentally, I double parked the car and left the keys at reception who arranged to park it while we were experiencing a taster of the city (car parked directly ouside the hotel when we returned.

All hotel staff very friendly, very good choice at breakfast, which fuelled you for the day.  Bar very quite, but it was early March.  Room was very good and had everything we needed, including free internet access - albeit a little fiddly.  No adverse comments, try the hotel, you will enjoy it.

Arriving at the hotel for a two night stay to celebrate a good friends imminent wedding, we were welcomed by very smart and cuteous staff into this very stylish and beautifully presented hotel.

While some rooms are a little on the small side, the rooms seen were all very well presented and had great facilities. Wide screen LCD TV with free internet access will keep you in touch with world events and an iron and ironing board in every room was a nice touch for a last minute smarten up before hitting town.

Channings is located in the impressive victorian New-Town area and the views across the city are impressive.

All staff were extremely friendly and helpful, offering advice on where to go and where to avoid in town.

Overall, an excellent hotel with fantastic facilities, great staff and an impressive location - thoroughly recommended.

We stayed at Channings at the end of our trip to Scotland and were absolutely delighted with the hospitality of all the staff from the moment we arrived.  Our room was beautiful and so comfortable, providing everything we needed.  We dined in the restaurant and the food was fabulous and the service excellent.  This is truly a wonderful hotel and we look forward to staying here again.
