We wanted a relaxing week in the sun and we got it!
Meloneras is without doubt one of the 'classier' resorts on Gran Canaria. If you want all you can eat Chinese buffets with pints for 50c that stay open 'til 4am; then go elsewhere.
With Cay Beach what you get is a spotlessly clean, well maintained and safe accommodation. All apartments/bungalows are fully air conditioned and cleaned regularly. Equipment is standard fare - although there is a microwave and coffee maker also.
In terms of location, prepare to use a taxi (about €3) to get to the main restaurants etc. Or, if you want to walk it, it will take about 15 minutes but it is a nice sea front walk. A 10 minute walk in the opposite direction will bring you to a small but very nice beach complete with restaurants.
If I had to pick out one negative about Cay Beach, it would be a very small one. At night, the complex is quite dark. If you are located in the centre of it, the walk back to your accommodation from the gate takes you through a series of pathways which are flanked by walls and high shrubbery. The lighting is at floor level and in parts it feels quite isolated. It's a small thing and certainly not worth docking marks! Security overall appears excellent with a very obvious CCTV monitoring station in reception.
A thoroughly enjoyable holiday - we will be back!!
The best thing about my stay was…
The industrial strength air conditioning!!! It's fantastic and included in the price :-)
