review of Catalonia Gardens

16 September 2007
September2007 The apartment was spacious and with a huge balcony. The buillding is kept clean the pools have a lifeguard and were never crowded. It is well situated, minutes from the beach and bus stop just across the road. The only thing that irritated us was the dicoteque nearby that tries to blast the neibourhood during the night. Fortunately the nights were cool so we could sleep with the patio doors closed. Having said that the rooms overlooking the pool are very quiet. They use the reception of International2 Hotel, we found them friendly and helpful. All in all good value for money.

Good Holiday

12 August 2007
The apartment was large with 2 good size twin bedrooms, a sitting room and a cooking area. There was plenty of wardrobe space and a bathroom with shower. There was a bar downstairs beside the 2 pools , one for kids the other for adults which was quite large and a lifeguard between them. The international 2 hotel is next door and we used their evening entertainment. There are lots of supermarkets close by where english papers can be bought.A good place to eat out is the pirate up the hill and round to the right, near the beach. Salou has a good cheap bus service up to tarragona for proper shops and roman ruins or the other way to cambrils to see the fishing boats land there catch about 4pm.Lots of good places to eat fish here but kids prefered Mcdonalds which the bus stops outside (adults can get beer with their meal and staff speak english) We all had a good holiday.

Disappointed on arrival that all reception was closed - collected keys across the road at the International II hotel! The whole place is closed apart from the apartments - we had to use Inter II. Apartment was clean but the second bedroom was very small! Close to everything - never needed a taxi. Would go back again.

It was the worst holiday ever!! Saw some reviews before going and thought that everyone was over the top, but they were right, its a dump! There were 9 of us, 4 were under 16, one of them was under 2, so they decided to put us on the top floor, facing the night club which didn't finish till 6am. Our rooms never got cleaned, we had to mop and clean our own floor, they were good at first in changing the linen and towels, in the first couple of days, but never saw them after that. Everything was falling apart, the railings on the stairs are loose, as well as the balcony. It stinks, not only in your room but also in the corridors.  The pool and the entertainers we they only good thing about the whole place. The streets around the hotel were even worse, there are bins everywhere, overflowing with rubbish. Never will I go back to salou or this hotel

We have just returned from our stay at the Catalonia Gardens and can honestly say that the accomodation was more than adequate for our needs.  The complex is situated very close to the main street in Salou with all the bars and shop very close by as was the beautiful beach. The apartments themselves were clean and quite spacious with a double bedroom, sofa bed plus a single bed set in a little alcove which our 5 yr old daughter claimed immediately!!!  The staff at reception were always very helpful and friendly.  I would also highly recommend that anyone staying here goes across the road to 'The Comedy Diner' for its fantastic food and brilliant staff!!!  All in all the best way to sum this accomodation up is if you want 5 Star luxury pay 5 star prices but if you want a cheap and cheerful family holiday then this is ideal!!!!!

I stayed with 3 friends in the Catalonia Gardens in Sept '06.  We were booked in for 3 nights and it was perfect for the kind of holiday we were looking for.  It was five minutes from the beach, had a lovely pool in the complex and was minutes walk away from a selection of bars and restaurants.  The apartments were above average and spotlessly keen.  I would recommend to both families and singles.

we were a little worried after reading some reviews read after we had booked our room but we had nothing to worry about.
reception staff were freindly and spoke good english.
room basic but clean(kettle etc....)
no air con but fans on ceiling did the job.
pool area good plenty sunbeds lifeguard on duty all day no ball games or lilos in the pool meant you could swim or cool down without getting pestered.
bar staff freindly and courteous, good range of drinks happy hour 2 4 1 730-830 every night.
basic snacks pizza burger chips etc good value (even cheaper in los castillos right next door)
overall very good basic accomodation would stay again....

The room was fine.  However, the hotel in block room 1106 was very loud in the evening.

This block in not suitable for families with young children.

Also outside the block the light wasnt working properly.

catalonia gardens what can i say we have just returned from 1week.i have to say the pool and entertainment was spot on here.kids loved it.the hotel can only be described as "on the outskirts of party central".rooms clean and with usual facilities.extras available to hire eg.fans tvs etc.families with kids i recommend an appartment on the inside of complex facing the pool.we were facing the street with a niteclub beneath us which was open until 5am.i found it hard to believe that a complex with 480 rooms could not accomodate a swop?car parking facilities are poor and nearest one is 15euro per day.

Much better than expected

I didnt know what to expect having read differing reviews.  The apartment was clean and well equipped although it was privately owned having been booked on the internet.  First pleasant surprise.  The location was great and the kids loved the complex, the pool, activities etc.  I found the bar and entertainment acceptable and the staff were great.  The food was fine and reasonably priced and of course there was lots of choice all around, you didnt need to stay at the complex.  All in all I think we had good value for money and a good holiday and I would return.

was worried about complex after reading reviews but i enjoyed my stay. appartment was clean but trying to get extra bedding was not a success! complex is a bit rough around the edges though the pool area was lovely.large room and balcony could not fault.quite noisy at night with people and traffic due to location but i got used to it.itis not the ritz by any means but a holiday is what you make of it.be wary, as i heard of a couple of robberies during my stay. bar/bar service good, entertainment o.k. food more than adequate.salou itself, is just like any other spanish resort really.lovely beach and promenade though.

After reading loads of bad reviews about this hotel we were pleasantly surprised, dont get me wrong it wasnt the hilton or anything but its not as bad as everyone makes out, my younger children enjoyed the hotel entertainment and the older one made lots of friends, the pool was brilliant the life guard was very vigilant at all times (sometimes a bit too much!)The rooms were very basic but clean, we were there for 2 wks and had our bedding changed 3 times and our rooms cleaned twice. the food was ok, just check your change!!if you like bingo you'll love it there, the staff were nice specially Mel one of the entertainers she was excellent with the kids (more patience than the other girl lorraine who kept telling the kids to shut up), overall we had a lovely time you havent got to stay in the hotel there's loads of things to do its based in a really lively area, just watch out for the 'lucky lucky's' tell them 1 euro and they go away!!!!

i enjoyed it very much the hotel was clean and tidy, my apartment spacious and quiet. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, but the entertainment could of been better, the outdoor swimming pool was not heated and as a result very chilly (even in spain!) and the hot water in the shower turned cold within ten minutes. The nightclubs were great and the pubs and good entertainment, well worth going. Even though i had a few complaints these are only minor ones and i would go again.

the rooms are very basic, i wouldn't recommend catalonia for any one with small children as it can get very noisey at night, no air conditioning and not the cleanest of places but a good base, lots of shops and pubs near by, not far to beach.

Review of 'CATALONIA GARDENS'

12 September 2005
Myself and my husband and two girls, aged 5 & 2 stayed in the Catalonia Gardens at the end Aug 2005. We were initally disappointed when we arrived at our apartment as having two young kids I had requested a ground floor apartment and we ended up on the 5th floor. We were quite on edge because we were so high up but it was fine in the end. Apartments were very basic but we really only used them to sleep and shower etc, we were gone all day and back in the evening. They are in a good location very central which plently of pubs and restaurants close by. The apartments are in three blocks and we were in the block facing the street which was very noisy at night between traffic/ people on the street in general and ,most annoying, a nightclub across the road which was extra noisy until about 6am in the morning. Pool area very good. Entertainment in the bar at night was quite good and plenty to keep the kids happy. The only thing that would not bring me back to the Catalonia Gardens is the noise at night, but I expect this would be the case with alot of apartments in Salou as it is a very lively resort.

We found the catolonia gardens basic, entertainment was a bit naff. If i hear another game of bingo i'll scream. No air conditioning in rooms only fans but at a charge - they should be free .If u go make sure you don't end up in block 2 - the noise is atrocious, a night club under the block and one over the road, till 5 or 6 in the morning. Two lots of cutlery for 5 people.Who goes on holiday and has to get up at 9:30am to be guaranteed a bed by the pool anywere at all, after only having at least 2/3 hours sleep the night before, What a joke!! My advise DONT GO THERE!!!!!

Review of 'CATALONIA GARDENS'

24 August 2005
Although we expected our room to be basic its cleanliness left a lot to be desired.  The decor and curtains were dirty and the patio furniture broken.  The swimming pool area was a little unkempt, with broken and unsafe steps to both the large pool and children's pool.  As the fortnight went on the sunbeds dwindled and were not replaced.  Maid service was only once per week and there was no air conditioning in the rooms.

The apartments are situated in a very busy part of Salou and as a result noise is generated all night long from the nearby nightclubs and traffic.

However, Salou offers lots to do with a beautiful beach nearby with golden sands.  All the family enjoyed days out at Port Aventura, Barcelona - an hour away by train/bus, and Costa Caribe and the kids were never bored!

Catalonia Gardens are basic but clean apartments cleaned 3 times a week, leaving clean towels and sheets.  The apartments themselves are situated in a very very busy area of Salou and very noisey. The entertainment is very poor and I wouldn't recommend staying the evening to watch these.  After all the reports I had read I was really worried, but it wasn't that bad and the holiday is what you make it!!!!  But I wouldn't stay there again.

These were the worst apartments we have ever stayed in! The maid was non exsistent the rooms were very basic and the toilet smelt all week! We were situated in block 1 even though we had requested not to be in the block that overlooked the nightclub. The music went on very loudly until 6am every night and the road was very busy where drivers hooted there horns all night long. The staff were very unhelpful when i asked to change rooms as i had young children who were kept awake every night. I could not wait to get home for a rest. I would not recommend this apartment to anyone.Salou itself was great though.

20 July 2005
we stayed here aug 2004, and had the best time of our life. yes the rooms are extremly basic, but we only used the room to sleep and shower, the location is very good although it can get quite noisy as there are nightclubs under the apartments and in the close vicinity. we had 2 teenagers with us who had a wonerful time, port aventura is excellent but i would advise going to aquapolis rather than costa caribbe as it is a much beter day out with a free dolphin and sealion show and the water slides are much beter, much better value for money. the blocks do have some residential apartments and some have dogs but we did not find any major problems with this, we had such a good time that we are going back this year. this is not the best accomodation in the world but a good base, with a good pool area and lots of great places to eat very near by with lots of entertainment to choose from if you dont like the resident entertainers.

THESE APTS ARE IDEALLY SITUATED FOR ALL AMENITIES ALTHOUGH THEY ARE ON A VERY SLIGHT HILL. WE HAD A WOMAN OF 68 WITH US AND THE HILL WAS NO PROBLEM TAKEN SLOWLY. WE HAVE STAYED IN THE CATALUNYA APTS THREE TIMES NOW AND HAVE HAD A GREAT HOLIDAY EVERY TIME.   EXCELLENT.
