The Carlton on Madison Avenue in NYC...

24 May 2008
Great location, very central and within walking distance of most major attractions, e.g. The Empire State building, Times Square and Broadway. Reasonably good standard of accommodation but the rooms are very small. It's difficult to get into the bathroom! However the rooms had everything that you might need. The safes don't work though which is apparently due to their 'renovation' project. We were also located in a room that had the external air vent directly outside, so it was very noisy, but I guess all hotel rooms in NYC are noisy. We requested a late checkout i.e. 3 hours later. We were told we could have this if we paid £90 which is half the room rate for the day - this is something which I find quite incredible given that the room was clearly available and I have never been charged before. The concierge and door staff were very good and helpful and needlessly to say respond well to a good tip early on in your stay! Food is excellent as you might expect with an award winning restaurant. Overall satisfactory and adequate for the purposes of a central city break.

If you are staying in new york for the first time , the carelton on madison is the perfect place to stay.
About a five minute walk to the empire state building and indeed very close to all the major attractions of this fantastic city.
The hotel staff were always very courtious, and will book any excursions that you may wish to go on
Ourroom was spacious and very clean, with a nice big bathroom
and we also had a fantastic view of the empire state building from our window.
This hotel was the perfect place to retire to after a hectic days sightseeing.

Review of 'CARLTON ON MADISON'

I and 5 other friends stayed at the Carlton on Madison for 3 nights. It was very pleasant. The beds were big [Queen] and rooms were clean.
The people working there are friendly from the cleaners to the person who took our bags to the room (a very polite gentleman called LUKE, who went out of his way to make sure our stay at the Carlton On Madison and NYC was a good one).
I would highly recommend this hotel for couples and its not realy aimed at the teens/late teens.
There are 2 reasons why I gave it a 4 instead of 5 - this is because, firstly the maintenance was still undergoing, although this was pointed out before booking. Secondly they didn't have a printer connected to the internet access machine so when we needed to give them our holiday voucher printed off from Alpharooms, we went looking for an internetcafe WITH a printing service - which isn't as easy as you'd think.

I just wanted to point out that most of the New Yorkers who work in touristic areas are not realy from Manhattan or recently moved there, because NO ONE was any good at famous locations, eg:
NO ONE knew where the firestation building is located that was featured in the films Ghostbuster,Ghostbusters2 and Hitch. NO ONE knew where the fountain is located, which was featured in Die Hard 3 (with the 2 water bottles and Bruce Willis and Sam Jackson had to make 4lt of water), to name but two reasons!
But other than that, Carlton On Madison hotel gets a 4 out of 5 and I will definitely go back there if I get a girlfriend.
