long weekend

04 June 2008
We stayed at this hotel last weekend and were very happy with the accomodation. It was our 1st time in Rome and had heard that the hotel rooms can be small and a bit grotty. This hotel was not and the room was very clean and modern. We had a king size bed and everything was of a high standard. The only thing I would say is the air conditioning is very poor in the room and even up to high it doesnt seem to keep the room cool enough in the summer months. I would advise taking a trip in spring or autumn as the weather was very hot and sticky. The roof top terrace is really nice for breakfast or an evening drink but be warned the price of a glass of wine is 6.50 euros and they barely fill the end of the glass. We bought wine in the local supermarket for 2 euros and it was nicer than a lot of the wines in the restaurants where they charge 20- 30 euros per bottle. In relation to Rome it is a fabulous city to see but if you are a food lover and enjoy dining out you will be disappointed. My husband and i both love Italian food but the quality was very poor and a real rip off as it is very hard to find a really nice restaurant with value for money. There is a lot of cafes and they all have the same menu which after a few days gets a bit repetitive. I would recommend this hotel though and we paid 250 euros per night instead of 300 euros a night if we had booked on the hotels website.

This hotel was recommended to me by a friend. Although this was not a cheap stay, the extra money was well worth it. The hotel is decorated to a high standard, with modern, well specified rooms. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was continental and with a wide selection of quality items. The location is right in the heart of the ancient city, about 400 yards from the Colosseum. I would recommend getting a cab from the airport (Ciampino) The Terravision bus is not express by any stretch of the imagination, and they do not hurry to load up and depart. Expect a delay of up to an hour if you hit them at the wrong time. You will then need to get from Termini station - we should have paid the extra for the cab fare. (The licensed white cabs will charge you a fixed fare from the airport to the centre - just ask them before you go).

Review of 'CAPO D'AFRICA'

28 March 2007
Hotel was in a great location and very close to the Colosseum (about a 5 minute walk). Also it was very close to many restaurants and bars and we had no concerns walking around at nigh time.

The hotel itself is very comfortable and the rooms are of a reasonable size. Breakfast (which was included in our stay) was a continental buffet and was very nice (make sure you get there early to grab a free newspaper).

Recommended for any length of stay in Rome.

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC 'CAPO D'AFRICA'

09 March 2007
Location - quiet (residential enclave), central (five minutes walk to Colosseum)and in summer you can breakfast or snack on the roof top terrace (with citrus trees) with fine view of the Colosseum.
Staff - friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, happy to chat and teach Italian (now know Italian for "The usual, please", thanks to Adolfo. "Adolfo, il solito.")
Standards - very clean, all the usual (but high quality) bits and bobs  - soap, shower caps, shoe shine, etc. even slippers (very welcome after walking all day) which I have brought back with me. Room was a good size, not the usual Roman rabbit hutch; and curtains really blocked out the light. The interior design of the Capo is superb; chilled, contemporary and interesting.
Food - brilliant included continental breakfast, lots of choice: naughty tarts and pastries, bread rolls and slices, about five different type of cheese and cooked meats, hard boiled egggs, juices, fresh fruit, yoghourts, great coffee, etc. Wow!
Value for money - fabulous! Booking through alpharoooms.com we saved about £100 on a three night stay. Much better than any other internet agency. Mini bar bill was really reasonable. My husband went through bill meticulously with concierge on check out because he thought we were being undercharged; we weren't.
Conclusion - can't wait to go back to the Capo. I spent a long time researching hotels in Rome and could have booked a biggie like the Exedra. We're so glad we didn't. It isn't often in this life that something is everything it's cracked up to be. The Capo is.

Review of 'CAPO D'AFRICA'

Excellent hotel - stayed here 4-7 Oct 2006.  In a quiet location but only 5 mins walk from the Colosseum and quite a few nice restaurants just round the corner.  Very modern, clean and new looking.  The staff were friendly and helpful (recommended some good restaurants to us) and service at breakfast was very good.  Our bedroom was a reasonable size and had everything you could need - toiletries, loofah!, hairdryer, safe, minibar.

Would visit Rome again and use this hotel definitely.

we've just returned from a 5 night stay in the capo d'africa. this is a great hotel in a fantastic position. the staff are very friendly and very helpful, nothing is too much for them.the rooms are spotless and attended to twice a day. the colosseum is 2 minutes away and you get a great view of it from the terrace at the hotel, no, it's not just a corner of it that you have to crane your neck to see, you can actually sit at your table and there it is. we will definitely go back to rome and this is where we will stay.

CLEAN FRESH MODERN HOTEL, HELPFUL STAFF, LOVELY ROOF GARDEN, CLOSE TO COLOSSEUM, BUT AWAY FROM THE HUSTLE AND BUSTLE, WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE TO THE "SIGHTS"

Stayed in the Capo D'africa early June 2006. I had made some email communications with the hotel before the trip and they responded promptly and helpfully. We were impressed from the word go -the hotel has a beautiful frontage with floodlights and palms and an impressive set of marble steps and the stone is beautifully clean. It was a bit smaller than I had expected from the website however, and the pictures of the sunloungers next to the colosseum the website displays was a little misleading I felt.
We arrived late at night, but the doorman was there and took our bags courteously. The reception staff spoke good english and we were escorted to our room promptly and he demonstrated the feautures to us.
The decor is modern and fresh and non fussy -and gave the impression of being newly decorated. The rooms were a reasonable size. The bathroom VERY clean and with a full sized bath and overhead shower (detachable) with the usual toiletries and personal loofah!
A nice touch was the addition of fluffy bath robes and slippers all with the hotels logo on.
We did not use the mini bar for purchases but it was nice to be able to keep water bottles cool in the fridge. The room was airconditioned althought it was slighty noisy at times. There was plenty of storage spaces, and a safe in the wardrobe which was free to use (and you can pick your own code). There was a TV which I think had a couple of english speaking channels. There is a hairdryer in the drawer so you don't need to take your own.
Also the hotel is up a small street about a 5 minute walk from the colosseum, but away from the main road. It was quite a sanctuary from the hubbub of the tourist centres. There is a small bar/lounge area in the foyer, but it is not noisy and is not used that much.

Breakfast is served on the roof terrace - you can sit inside, but most prefer to sit out either on the shaded side where there are some gazebo type shades over the table area, or or the unsheltered side where you can sit and look over the rooftops of Rome and see the colosseum. It is served until 11am so you do not have to rush to get up if you have had an exhausting day before. It is a self service continental breakfast -the usual Italian fare, meats, cheeses, pastries, breads, eggs, cereals, fruits, yogurts and juic

beautiful frontage, this hotel near to the Coluseum was a real treat.  With free parking in blue areas on Saturday and Sunday, it was much easier to drive to than I had expected.  It was useful to arrive during the siesta time though and during August when the Italians are on holiday.  Fantastic head massaging shower, modern well appointed rooms with a luxurious feel.  Friendly reception.  Breakfast on the terrace looking out towards the Coluseum was lovely.  Will definitely be going back there.
