Not so good

26 July 2008
We have stayed at the Duna beach before and were reasonably happy, clean tidy etc. BUT returned their in June and what a change. the place was inundated with cats, the linen was only changed twice in 15 days (as were the towels) we ran out of toilet paper and had to purchase our own as even after requesting replacements on several occaisions it was still three days before we recieved any (this was then given to me by the girl on reception, not even a cleaner or housekeeper to open the toilet roll holder). as if that was not bad enough, at the start of our second week we were awoken on Saturday morning by workmen outside our bedroom window using cement mixers (6.30am) by 12 noon a hole had appeared in the wall next to our appartment and a system of homemade ramps consisiting of planks and metal containers were being used to convey wheelbarrow loads of concrete back and forth. it would appear that they are ripping up all the little gardens to replace them with concrete so that they can put extra sunbeds outside each appartment. this work continued for the rest of our holiday. even though there were empty appartments no attempt was made to move us or appologise for the inconvenience. we could no longer sleep in or enjoy a liesurely breakfast on our patio, basicaly the remainder of our holiday was ruined. no comment from the manager of the complex and only a shrug from the reception staff in answer to our questions about how long the work would last etc. i am not a complainer, but surely common courtesy would have meant at best a change of rooms or at the worst an appology. sorry Duna Beach, but we will not be returning to what was a pleasant enough place on our previous visit. oh and by the way the made only mopped the appartment and patio area twice during our stay. Took my 76yr old mother to stay here the week before Xmas 2007 - out of the three hotels we stayed in (and the other two were Rui, ie much more expensive, this 1 bed appartment was her favourite! The staff were very friendly towards her and we had a fine time - 100% recommendation. Car hire is recommended.

Great value

27 April 2008
A great value holiday. Bungalows are very clean, but basic. Beware of the exceedingly hot water, especially if you have children. Our bungalow was very close to the bar and we found it noisy at times. Excellent facilities on the complex. Car hire is desirable as there is no access to the beach through the golf course. The food served here is varied and of good quality. The all inclusive option is very good value for money. Mainly German quests, so be prepared for cigarette smoke - especially in the outdoor restaurant and on the beach.

Perfect Stay

20 April 2008
Very good value for money!!! Clean bungalows. Friendly and helpfull staff. Safety deposit box available to rent as well as bikes and car hire. Very quiet and relaxing at this time of the year (April). Little Supermarket on site, very good if you book self catering. Little walk to Faro 2 shopping center, which is just okay for dinner. Better places to eat out are the Maspalomas area and various Playa del Ingles shopping centers. Sand Dunes of Maspalomas are absolutely fabulous!!! ;-)

basic but clean

17 April 2008
Me and my daughter (16) stayed in the Dunabeach Bungalows over easter for a week. On arrival we found the room extremely basic but clean, but for what we paid they were as we expected. However, the location was far worse 45 minutes walk from Maspalomas one way and the same to Playa del Inglais in the opposite direction. There are very few bars or restaurants around the apartments other than the Faro 2 shopping center which seemed to be the highlight of the area however this was not as described and was small, full of tacky shops and dingy restaurants. The pool area was pleasant and better than expected. The apartments seemed to suit to German guests rather than English. The apartments were cleaned regularly although the cooking facilities could have been better, with that said we walked the 45 minuites every night to Maspalomas beach area where the restaurants and shops were excellent and a taxi ride back to the Duna Beach cost 4 euros at the most.

Excellent Value

We stayed here in March 08, and found the Duna Beach fantastic value, although fairly basic they are very clean. Staff were very friendly especially if you try to speak a little spanish. Location is great too, very quiet, just what you need to relax. Will return here again.

are these being refurbished?????

17 February 2008
Went here in sept 2007 and next door but one and another one were being refurbished completely. Asked the builders and they said all were being done! So does anyone know for certain this is the case? Because if they are, this place would be the best of all the bungalows in Maspalomas. Sorry but they were a little tatty inside with a little damp. Peter Darlisaon

Although basic accommodation the Duna Beach is clean and secure. The best thing though is that there isn't any traffic noise or music blasting out after 11.00pm. Good value too!

The Duna beach can only be described in my opinion as the perfect place to stay. Nice and quiet and peaceful, the pool is fantastic and the bar & restaurant are very clean with the food being such a good standard. Th staff are great and ever so pleasant. I have been 3 times now & would always go back to the Duna Beach. Oh and the bungalows/apartments are basic but clean. GIVE THE DUNABEACH A GO, I PROMISE YOU WONT REGRET IT, LOOK AT ALL THE OTHER WRITE UPS!

We have recently returned home after staying for a month at Duna Beach. The accommodation was basic but adequate; the rooms were cleaned and the beds made on a daily basis. The amenities were excellent and almost all of the things you required could be obtained on site. We will definitely be returning to Duna Beach bungalows quite regularly, and probably staying for up to two months at any one time.

Duna Beach accomodation was basic but sufficient; the rooms were cleaned and tidied daily. The amenities were more than adequate and almost anything you required could be obtained on site. The shopping centres are only a short taxi ride away - the Yumbo Centre is very lively and full of wonderful restaurants and shops - spoilt for choice! Maspolomas beaches are clean and well maintained - plenty of sunbeds at a very reasonable cost. We will definately return to the Duna Beach bungalows again and again.

PERFECT FOR US

31 August 2007
My girlfriend and I stayed here in March/April 2007 after a short and easy coach trip from the airport. We realised pretty soon that if you make an effort to talk to the staff, they respond with courtsey and a smile. This is a budget hotel but that in mind all ameneties are adequate and good. The food is nice and the beer is always cold, if a little weak!! Sammy and Damien are two of the staff worth getting to know as they are kind and will help you with any language barriers. All in all a very nice, pleasant hotel, with all ameneties and nice staff. We are going again in 2008

A little difficult to find (look for Campo de Golf signs) and there is no problem.   Reception and swimming pool excellent and the supermarket sufficient for immediate needs.  Sells lovely fresh rolls each day.  Bungalow adequate and nothing more/nothing less than we expected.  Typically Spanish with ill fitting doors but what does that matter.  We were only there to sleep and have breakfast.   Amazingly quiet at night.  Delighted to have a visiting hoopoe in the garden opposite our bungalow.  Looking forward to returning next February.  Hope you will still be offering this accommodation.

Review of 'BUNGALOWS DUNABEACH'

27 February 2007
Just returned from our holiday first week in February.  We were very lucky with the weather as it had been a wash-out the week before.  As mentioned in previous reviews the complex is a bit out of the way but it meant it was a very peaceful and really relaxing holiday.  The complex was beautiful and the rooms were what you would expect - very basic but clean.  One thing I was very surprised about is that some couples were there for a long-stay i.e. 8-12 weeks.  In our opinion you would certainly need more facilities in the apartment and nearby to stay for that length of time, however for a holiday it is adequate.  Lying watching the parrots flying through the trees and the dare-devils jumping out of planes was terrific and we have certainly come back with our batteries well and truly recharged.

It is the third time we visit  Maspalomas and Duna Beach is the best place so far.
The complex is clean, quiet and appealing mostly to the mature guests and families with children. Pool area is huge with plenty of sunbeds, also a small basin for the babies. The room was cleaned and neat, nice to come to in the evening.
We ate only once at the restaurant  - don´t eat there....
Though the complex seems to be placed a little bit outside of Maspalomas it is not far away from Faro II center or beach (25 min. of walking).
The bus to the beach cost 60 cents each way pr. p
Finally, i wouldn´t mind to choose Duna Beach  - We really relaxed there.

Review of 'BUNGALOWS DUNABEACH'

04 February 2007
The main plus for the Duna Beach is it's peaceful location. 2 weeks of uninterrupted nights! Not many families stay, it's mainly older couples. It is a pleasant, but long walk into Maspalomas.
It is quite difficult to find if you are driving (Alpharooms should give maps & directions). The motorway junction is 46 NOT 47 (Maspalomas) as all the maps say.
The bungalows are small & rather tired, with a basic level of equipment. You couldn't do much cooking on 2 rings. However they are adequate & cleaned regularly & efficiently. There is a reasonable supermarket on site. Fresh bread daily.
The patios of the ones round the tennis court don't have any privacy at all. The ones round the pool area are much better, preferably the upper level.
If you want somewhere as a base to tour the island, walk, cycle etc Duna Beach is absolutely fine. I wouldn't want to stay for longer than a couple of weeks - I would want better facilities for a long stay. The pool area is nice if you are a sunworshipper - plenty of sunbeds.
The restaurant no longer offers a buffet, but the food we had there was hot, well cooked & presented & reasonably priced.
There are always taxis (cheap) & a regular bus service (even cheaper).
This was by far the cheapest accommodation in the area, so is a bit of a bargain. We enjoyed our stay.

Review of 'BUNGALOWS DUNABEACH'

04 January 2007
The Bungalows are fairly spacious and very clean - they actually SMELL clean, which is quite unusual. All areas of the hotel are kept equally clean and tidy so if this, and peace and quiet are important to you, as they are to us, this is the ideal place to stay. No, the bungalows are not brilliantly equipped in the kitchen but who wants to cook on holiday anyway?? We stayed half board over Christmas and New Year and always had a good choice on the buffet menu, though found the breakfast menu a little sparse. However, if you speak nicely to Sammy in the bar he will give English people a special 'meal ticket' for a full English breakfast each day, as long as you eat it in the bar, out of sight of other nationalities!
The bungalows are well positioned, a 4 euro taxi ride or half hour pleasant stroll to the sand dunes and you must try the cafes in Meloneras, a stroll along the prom from the dunes - particularly the Grand Italia serving excellent Italian ice cream - ideal for people watching (perhaps a better place to do this than the nudist area on the beach!!).
Ideally, in the winter, a section of the pool is heated which is quite unusual for accommodation at this price. I would recommend this place to anyone.
By the way, it's true what they say about the grumpy receptionist - but we did make him smile (just once) by wishing him a Happy New Year. Can't see this working in July though!Perhaps he's just not used to people being nice to him!

If you have a bit of get up and go about yourself, theses are the bungalows for you. They are very affordable and great value for what you are getting.Comfortable for 2 people, any more would be cramped. If you need tv on holiday forget about it if you only speak english.Tv aimed at german and spanish markets only.Staying onsite and just relaxing the pool area is fine, clean well maintained and spacious.Better than many of the more expensive bungalows etc.Pool bar and resteraunt have long opening hours which is convenient and reasonably good quality.
Bus from the airport, number 30, to Faro2 centre is just over €3.Buy your basics in the supermarket as the onsite shop is much dearer as expected as it caters for those too lazy to bother walking and exploring.Faro2 to DunaBeach is 10 minutes walk or €3 by taxi. You can walk to the beach at Meloranes in 40 minutes but would recommend doing this either early morning or evening when temperatures are cooler.Otherwise there is a bus service provided for 60cent e/w.Bus service also provided to Yumbo centre during the day.Bus number 90 will bring you to Atlantico shopping centre which includes Carrefour,Zara,Springfield,Lacoste and many many more.It is also just beside the picturesque bargain shopping town of Vecindario.
Get out and explore!!

Having previously always stayed at hotels - but last year found that hotel not up to scratch - friends said why not try were we stay - namely Dunabeach in bungalows - so for the 1st time in 50 odd years tried self catering - and can say with all honesty found it one of the most relaxing - enjoyable holidays ever - nearly everything you need is there if you want it - all staff were so helpful - the small shop on site  well stocked - very helpful young lady in situ - everything so clean from bungalows to pool area were ample sun beds and acres of space - and the fact that was only 10 minute walk to the larger shops at Faro 2 gave an excuse for some much wanted exercise - and if u wanted the brighter lights of playa del ingels - only 5 minutes and 4/5 euro taxi ride away . So if you seek a self catering holiday - which not expensive in a quiet relaxing atmosphere Dunabeach is the place for you - I am checking availabilty for next spring already.

The Duna Beach is quiet and very suitable for mature couples.
Accommodation was clean and ample for a couple.
Staff were friendly and very willing to help with any problems.
The beach is a 40 min. walk or there is a bus for 0.60 Euros.
We would not have eny problem rebooking a holiday at this site or recommending it to others.

Good accomodation. I have been in the same bungalow in March. Nice and quiet resort big swimming pool. Only fault my bungalow was with small kitchen, small bathroom and big bedroom. My patio was very small but the other in general are bigger maybe because I was travelling alone. I booked with you for December 30th at Bungalow El Cardonal always in Gran Canaria and I hope that the bungalow will be nicer.
I recommand Bungalow Duna Beach.

We have now stayed at the Dunabeach twice and we are impressed. The accommodation is very clean as are all the facilities with an impressive reception area.  The staff are helpful to the extreme, going that little bit extra to ensure a good holiday.
Maintenance staff keep the site spotless and the supermarket is well stocked with everything needed.  Whilst a little bit out of the way so that taxis are a must for the night out, this doesn't present a problem as a call from reception results in a taxi in less than five minutes.  A walk to Faro II is less than ten minutes and for the wanderer, a good walk in pleasant surroundings can be had going to the Faro lighthouse.

We will be going back next year, and probably every year for the foreeable future.

Review of 'BUNGALOWS DUNABEACH'

07 March 2006
The complex is excellent value. It is quiet, relaxed and civilised. It attracts the more mature guests and these tend to be German and Scandinavian. When we were there, there were no large groups and this was very much to our liking. The complex shares a golf course with two other very similar complexes (and these have even less nightlife than Duna Beach and are even more German and Scandinavian)

The pool is large. Sunbeds are plentiful. There are parrots in the trees. The staff were friendly and helpful. Never saw a cockroach but ants abound. It is a long way out, which is its great attraction or drawback depending upon what you want. It is quiet (but like all these things this will always depend upon who is in the accommodation next, or near, to you.

We were there in February after it had rained solid for a week. The rooms were a bit damp.

The accommodation was standard for the Canaries.  The rooms are cleaned regularly. The kitchen was small with only two electric rings (no kettle, oven or toaster).  The bathroom had extraordinarily hot water. The living area was comfortable with a coin operated TV (1 Euro buys 1 hour) showing of mainly German and Spanish TV; only BBC World, Eurosport and CNN are in English. The restaurant is ok but you wouldn’t really choose to eat there. The bar is ok (1 Gin & Tonic and large beer = 7.10 Euro).  There is little or no night entertainment or activity except that which happened as a result of the chemistry of those in the bar.  The bar was closed by 11.30 most nights. There is an Internet facility in reception (1 Euro = 16minutes)

There is a small supermarket on site with prices cheaper than the bar or restaurant. Equally obviously prices are cheaper still in the main supermarkets. You can walk to Maspalomas – Melonares -
in 25 minutes (this is the upmarket bit with designer shops and quite expensive outdoor bars – although I would recommend the 19th Hole); you could walk to Playa Ingles in 50 minutes (this is the downmarket bit and if you don’t like the stack ‘em high and pack ‘em in approach to bars then give it a miss, it also has a vibrant ‘gay scene’); and to Faro 2 in 10 minutes. Don’t bother with Sonnenland ! Taxis will cost between 3.50 and 5 Euro to these nightspots.

Taxi to the airport between 30 and 40 Euro depending on traffic.

We liked it. Would happily go again.

The complex was clean and the staff were helpful and friendly.  There were plenty of sun-loungers around the swimming pool but it was windy (so we did not try the pool).  The bungalow was adequate but the kitchen was not fully equipped although you could rent everything you could possibly imagine from reception.  A big PLUS is the location which is very quiet but not far from facilities (+ a lot of taxis available outside).  Very competitively priced.  We would stay there again.

The place itself is very clean and the gardens very well looked after.  The rooms are spacious and the kitchens well equipped for making your own meals, which you didn't really need to as the restaurant served great food.  The pool and it's area were always clean and there were enough sunbeds to go around. The bar and it's staff were always friendly, I feel dizzy just thinking about the amount of cocktails the wonderful Julien made for us.  The place itself is nice and breezy in the evenings but just to let you know, the supermarket onsite rents out fans which we needed a couple of nights at it was very very warm. We will definately go back next year.

Travelling alone and on a budget, Bungalows Dunabeach proved ideal. The communal areas -reception with internet facilities, poolside, garden areas - were spacious and attractive and easy to use as a solo traveller without any self consciousness.  The room facilities were basic, but private and absolutely fine as a base to explore and enjoy the sunshine.  What was great was how easily so many different types of people were able to rub along together in the same complex, all enjoying their own quite different holidays -from the lovely gay couple in the next bungalow to the party of older women holidaying together nearby to the many different types of family groups that were there.  All seemed to be having a wonderful time in pleasant surroundings.

After reading reviews about Dunabeach we were a little concerned about the friendliness of the staff and the security on the complex. The bungalows are basic but have everything you need, except a kettle. You can hire a safe which is situated behind reception and the bedroom windows have screens fixed to the outside. The staff are very friendly especially the barman. We would definitley stay at Dunabeach again.

We had never booked a holiday via the internet before and was wondering what it the resort would be like.  On arrival at Duna Beach we were really surprised and pleased.  The hotel reception was clean and the staff friendly.  The apartment was clean and big enough for our needs.  We took our own kettle as these are not provided but you can hire them.  The pool area was excellent.  There were plenty of sun loungers and there was 9 of us in our party and we could all sunbath together.  The pool was excellent, my children had many happy hours in the pool, and it was surrounded by lovely palm trees and lawned areas.  There was also a pool table and table tennis.  There was a shaded area with ample room for sun loungers.  The bar was well equipped and the staff there were lovely, very friendly and great with my children.  The restaurant was also OK, although on busier nights it took quite a long time to receive our meals, however the take away service was excellent value for money.  The shop on site was owned by an english man, and it was well stocked and the prices were very good in comparison with the supermarket in the Faro 2 Centre.  The Bungalows were set in the middle of the golf course which was lovely, the beach was an hour walk away but the taxi service was excellent and very cheap.  Reception in the hotel would book taxi's for you if requested.  We all enjoyed our holiday, the weather was superb and we all had an excellent time.  Just what the family wanted a nice quiet holiday.  The maid service was excellent and they were very friendly.
