Review of Bruntsfield
29 June 2008
Booked a one night stay well in advance for our son's graduation. Alpharooms was a completely painless process and a really good deal. The hotel staff were cheerily helpful and allowed (no problem sir) us to leave the car in their parking bay for a few hours after checkout (a real bonus in Edinburgh) which helped ensure a successful day. Large, spotlessly clean room and a great breakfast. A fair but really pleasant walk to and from the town centre and with a selection of good local restaurants and shops. All in all a good place to stay and we will be staying there again.

Bruntsfield Hotel
21 June 2008
Lovely hotel, gave the impression of catering for a business clientele however our leisure break was still good. Only downsides were the pedestrian crossing outside the room which could keep the lighter sleeper awake (although given the location the hotel would be still be substantially quieter than the city centre hotels), the trouser press not working (we did let reception know early in our stay but nothing was done about it, the receptionist didn't seem to understand what a trouser press was!) and breakfast was a bit disappointing (continental breakfast being some dry pastries a bread roll and some soggy cheese and ham, although the selection of cereals and the cooked selection was good, no baked beans though). Other than that the room was spacious and clean, the majority of staff helpful and friendly and the restaurant food and bar lovely. Would stay here again.

stayed here in May with my sister who was over from Canada. We were upgraded to a superior room, making the excellent deal through Alpharooms even better. We could not fault the hotel in any way, a little way out but this meant there were beautiful morning walks before hitting the sights and the bus service was excellent-is walkable though! Would definately return.

Enjoyable stay
10 July 2007
We booked a "superior" double room with a queen bed, we ended up with a massive bed made of 2 big single beds zipped together!! We were at the end of a corridor, so every time someone went through the door, we could hear it! But apart from that, the hotel was nice, clean, great location, free car park, easy to find with the website directions... However, I don't think it deserves a 4 stars rate.

A great location bus stop nearby and most important a car park. The hotel is of a good standard. But beware of taking an adjoining room you could be kept awake all night by noisy neighbours. The breaksast was ok but nothing startling.

I needed a space to escape to between my Mum's death and the funeral, and booked into the Bruntsfield Hotel for a night for that reason.
It was an excellent place to recoup my resources: I had a large double room, with a very clean and well-appointed en suite bathroom with over-bath shower. There was a desk and chair in addition to the armchair and a little cabinet containing all the tea/coffee makings & biscuits, plus a trouser press, hairdryer and large electric fan.
The windows were large and the view over gardens and the wider city was soothing and peaceful.
I chose to have a snack dinner in my room: it was delivered in a short time and was excellent quality. I also had a pleasant breakfast in my room; it cost £5 for room service (breakfast itself was included in the tariff) but was worth the extra money as it enabled me to remain in private for a little longer.
Because I'd come away without any thought of staying in a hotel, I was grateful that complimentary toothbrush and sewing kit - though you do have to ask for them, they're not waiting in the room.
The only thing I felt let the hotel down was the senior Receptionist's attitude: she was formally polite at all times, but managed nonetheless to convey the impression that hotel guests were simply a necessary evil rather than fellow human beings!

Great Location within Bruntsfield(15 mins walk to Princess St/Castle), good restaurants close by, well maintained parks across the road(ideal for jogging), good selection of boutiques/specialist shops close by also.
Friendly staff, good dining facilities, modern bar area with a good selection of beers, parking space sufficient, good size rooms, only 1 thing missing was air con in the room(small rotary fan not sufficient), outside temperatures of 18 degrees were surpassed by much warmer temperatures inside the room. Really needs Air Con! (stayed in room 202)

Stayed for 1 night in the Bruntsfield after getting a good deal with Alpharooms.Booked a double room but when we checked in we were offered a upgrade to a superior room at no extra charge...The room was spacious with good deco and a massive queen bed...Breakfast was included in the price and was excellent a full Scottish! Overall we had a great weekend in Edinburgh and the Bruntsfield was a great hotel 15mins walk in the centre.everyone was so friendly and most helpful..We will definitely use again......

We were pleasantly surprisedwhen we arrived to the hotel the reception was very pleasant. Our flight was early so they looked after our luggage until the room was ready for us to check-in.
The hotel had a very nice bar downstairs and it was only about 15 minutes walk into the centre of Edinburgh.
The room was very clean and the bathroom was a good size and also very clean.
If we were to return to Edinburgh we would certainly stay in the Bruntsfield again.

Warm, welcoming atmosphere. Had just driven from southern Scotland in a blizzard. Room clean, tidy and comfortable. Bed firm, very comfortable, (I have a sore back with softer beds). Loads of hot water to wash, shave and shower. Breakfast everything one could wish for - fruit juices, fruit, cereals, toast, tea and coffee. My wife drinks tea (Earl Grey) and I coffee. As said nowadays - no problem. I asked for porridge, which quickly appeared and was well made. Other patrons had a jolly good fry-up - not our cup of tea (SORRY!). I had to ask for marmalade first morning - only jam on the table - instantly appeared. Main circular "neons" in the bedroom gave off a peculiar hum. Solved by swiching lights off. Could disposable shower caps not be provided ? Car parking - slightly difficult second night, but solved by being allowed to "double park". Very pleasant and helpful staff. We will be back.

I had an amazing weekend, the staff extremely helpful. My only problem was the temperature of the room as it was slightly chilly. Maybe the temperature of bed could have been improved by providing a duvet instead of a sheet and blanket. The Kings bar was perfect for the first night we were too tired to travel far form our room!Good music, friendly barmaids and a good selection of beers.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Good location. Unfortunately the room was not so good. I was given a small single room overlooking the main car park . The furniture was very tired looking. I would probably stay in a different hotel in Edinburgh next time.

Excellent, very friendly staff, very helpful. Room was lovely overlooking a park, only problem it was quite hot being on top floor, but they had supplied an electric fan. Food in restaurant was excellent with local produce being used which was a nice touch. Most definitely recommend and we would stay again.
