beach isn't very near!

07 August 2008
I stayed at Blue Star with a friend in July. The apartment is nice, clean, with a white lovely balcony. It's funny that the lift goes down, bring you from the 9th at 1st floor, because the building, like all the others, is terraced. There is a minimaket with all you need, but a little expensive. The beach is quiet, but artificial. To reach it, you have to walk during 20 min. almost, or take a taxy. I think bluestar is a good place to stay to reach the other areas of the island, because is very cheap, but in puerto rico there isn't anything, either a center, just big hoteles and residences for tourist.

Another happy holiday at the Blue Star

26 July 2008
Brilliant, not much I can add other than read our review from July 2007, eight nights for £153 and access to two brilliant beaches, I can't speak highly enough of the Blue Star and staff.

Stayed in Blue Star for 4 days in March. Liked it enough to bring our 2 children in July for 10 days. Just back and have to say apartments were so clean and staff friendly and helpful. It was very basic but spotless. Will defo be going back in the future. Europa centre only across the road for all then entertainment you need.... great time had by all of us....

Greatholiday

07 May 2008
This hotel is at the top of the resort so it has great views over the bay of Puerto Rico. There are many bars and restaurants at the top, however most of the nightlife, the beaches and the ports are a long walk down or a drive away. The hotel itself is quiet and clean. It has a nice swimming pool and a separate, shallow pool for non-swimmers. There's a pool bar serving food and drinks that shuts late afternoon. All the staff were friendly and the reception staff were very helpful when we needed a dentist. There's good eantertainment nearby at Extreemz and Barbacoa, and the food at El Brasero is fantastic. If you like English food go to flicks. If you like India food go to the restaurant near Peurto Nuevo doenthe bottom. If you fancy scuba diving, go along to PR diving in the Europa centre and see Nina or Kevin. We had three weeks at the Blue Star this easter. The weather was great, te island is beautiful and the kids met some nice friends.

Lacking TLC - very basic, not for groups

02 May 2008
The facilities were what we expected after reading previous reviews - the lift was usually out of order, we had cockroaches and a leaky shower, which despite being reported 3 times, was still leaking on the day we left. The managment had no tact as after having a coffee on the balcony one evening, we received a very harshly worded letter explaining that we would be removed and that any breakages should be paid for! For having a coffee on the balcony we were given a standard letter aimed at yobs, which we certainly weren't. We were extremeley upset by this letter and would suggest that groups of friends do not book at this hotel. Other than that, the pool was nice and the cleaners and reception staff very friendly.

Cheap as Chips

27 February 2008
Great value for money if you looking for a budget holiday. However if you prefer the beach close to you this is not the place, my little girl could not walk down the steep hill to get to the beach so be prepared to get taxi back and forth if you want go the beach and shops. The lift broke a couple of times at the hotel which was bit of a pain especially if you’re leaving for an early flight and depending where you are situated in the hotel. My iron went missing whilst being transfer to another room never to be seen again Reception told me that I had to speak to the cleaners which didn’t speak much English so I just left it. However in saying that is was very CHEAP so unless you don’t mind trekking up and down stairs whilst waiting on the lift to be fixed or at least a 20-25 minute steep walk to the beech this is the place. I on the other hand rather pay the extra for a Hotel closer to ALL amenities.

We won't stay at this resort again

19 February 2008
I have just returned from staying at the Blue Star with my 14 yr old son. On a positive note the staff were very friendly and no creepy crawlies. The pool area was very busy and quite often no beds available, also quite a lot of drinking and noise going on which I wasn't keen on and we didn't go back until our last day and it was ok with kids playing which you expect. It was nice to have the Europa centre close by but with no transport I found it difficult to get about. To summarise Blue Star was ok but a bit run down and the area to hilly for me! I would not stay there again.

Very pleased

16 February 2008
We have been back for about 2 weeks now and while i was at the blue star i said to myself i would leave a comment because i was so pleased and enjoyed staying there. The lift was a bit shaky and slow but nothing to worry about. We stayed in room 408 which is about half way down and had the most amazing view of the sea, the apartment was clean and like many other people on here i didn't see any creepy crawlies. The beds and towels were cleaned regular and if you needed anything from reception it was sorted right away. My partner couldnt sleep because of the light outside (bear in mind he usually works nights) and the next day a blacked out curtain was put under the curtains in our bedroom. For a budget and good priced place to stay i was very impressed and would highly recommend.

Great place to stay

29 December 2007
Just returned from a weeks holiday in Puerto Rico. Blue Star is a clean, comfortable, friendly place to stay. We stayed in Room 603, lovely views and not far to walk when the lift didn't work! We are about to book into the Blue Star again for next Christmas. TV is provided in the room (1 Euro per hour) which gives Sky Sports, Channel 5, MTV and a few others, handy at night after a nice evening at the nearby Europa Centre, which has everything you need. There is a beautiful Chinese at the entrance on the ground floor. Anyway, Blue Star is great value for money and would recommend it. PS only one cockroach the entire week - on the last day!

Blue Star - Pleasantly Suprised

09 December 2007
Just returned from a five night stay at the Blue Star and I have to say that the price to quality ratio is excellent. Ok the exterior of the complex might be a little jaded and the interiors not the most swish you've ever stayed in but they have everything you could want for a comfortable stay. I stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment on the fourth floor and it was a good size with comfortable beds and a nice large balcony that was bathed in sunshine for the whole of the day and had a view of the sea which was lovely. The staff were friendly and efficient from the Receptionists to the Cleaners and always had a smile for us. THe location at the top of the hill between the two beaches was actually very nice because although it was a fairly long downhill walk to either the favourable taxi fares meant that if you didnt fancy the exercise then taking a very inexpensive taxi did'nt confine you to the complex. If you wanted to stay around the pool that was'nt a problem as it was a nice area with lots of beds and a very good pool bar. The Europa Centre was just a five minute walk from the complex and along with the excellent Amadeus restaurant and the very friendly and entertaining Mary D's bar plus a few others kept us fed and watered admirably. Dont be put off by the negative comments we all know that you cant please all of the people all of the time and having travelled extensively i was'nt disappointed infact it was a pleasant suprise.

Blue Star Review

25 November 2007
We stayed here for the recent Northern Ireland - Spain match and enjoyed our stay. The apartments were basic but was to be expected for the price paid. The pool was good with an excellent view and the bar staff were very friendly. The small shop beside reception is also very handy. Only drawbacks are the distance from the main square of Puerto Rico (although a taxi is only 3euro) and the lift can be slow at times which can be a pain in your down on the lower levels as its quite a hike up the steps!

Blue Star - Great

27 October 2007
Couldn't fault the Blue Star at all. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Asked for an extra pillow and is was there within hours. Apartment spotless on arrival and regularly cleaned during the week. Overall the place was kept spotless. The lift was the quietest thing I have ever heard, even inside you couldn't hear it. Will definately stay again.

Another great stay

02 July 2007
Just got gack from the Blue Star, and what can I say?, just the fact that for the location and price there is nowhere to touch the Blue Star this is the sixth time we have stayed there and we just love it, one of the downfalls was the pool bar if anyone knew it but they have made a really nice area of it now and the whole of the pool area is now very appealing, if you want Sky TV and all the mod cons try somewhere that charges vast ammounts for the privilage but if you want somewhere to base your holliday that is easy for Puerto Rico and Amadoras beach the Blue Star takes some beating ( check my earlier review in 2006, p.s. the view from rooms 709 and 711 are the best of the sea from the appartments.

Blue Star - Cheap as Chips

01 May 2007
We stayed at Blue Star at the end of April 2007. It only costs £140 per week per room - super cheap! Its great value considering its position just over the road from the Europa Centre. Absolute bargain! The only issue we had was the cleaners making a lot of noise in the rooms above us - we were out until the early hours and then tended to sleep in until the afternoon. The cleaners put paid to this on the first day!! Would definitely recommend these apartments though, as long as you don't expect to sleep in any later than 10am.

25 March 2007
My partner and I stayed at 'BLUE STAR' in April 2006. We had problems at the airport to kick the holiday into touch! We were expecting problems at the hotel but were pleasently surprised! the reception staff were great, helpful and assisted with taxi booking's as our Spanish is awful! we stayed on the 7th floor of the hotel, room was spotless when we arrived, 1 cockeroach for the week, (not bad) we loved the tavern bar at the europa centre, great entertainment and great staff! breakfast was great for 3 euros' also a huge steak meal for 6 euro's. we ate at the commercial centre on the first evening, was ok but found the commercial centre a bit mad! we were quite happy to spend most evenings at the europa centre, far friendlier people and places. i cant find a bad word to say about blue star or puerto rico itself! we loved every minute of it and are due to go back in two weeks time! cant wait.

Hey. Just returned from a wonderful holiday at The Blue Star Hotel in Puerto Rico.
We spent 10 days in a 2-room apartment and enjoyed the fantastic view over The Atlantic Ocean.
The hotel employees were friendly, forecoming and helpful in any way possible.
We didn't use the pool-area, but preferred to walk down the mountain to the glorious Amadores beach nearby.
Every morning we enjoyed breakfast on the balcony, listening to the birds singing in the trees below.
Returning in the afternoon we could still enjoy the setting sun in the balcony.
We can strogly recommend staying at the Blue Star Hotel, and surely we will return - maybe next year!!

Blue Star has a great location with splendid view of the Atlantic Ocean.
Blue Star is very close to the Shopping Center Europe which offers a nice and relaxed atmosphere (opposite to the noisy shopping center in downtown Puerto Rico)
Furnitures in the rooms are probably what you can expect for this type of low-fare apartments, however I had set my hopes for a better bed.
The staff in the reception are very kind and listen to your queries. A problem with the telephone in the room not working was not solved during my trip even though I asked multiple times.

we thorouly enjoyed our stay at the blue star. The reception staff were very very helpful and polite nothing was too much trouble for them they were always smiling.
The cleaning ladies were very nice and kept the rooms spotless.
They changed the towels and sheets quite often , more than any other apartment we have stayed at.
we had a wonderful veiw from our apartment, and it was quiet at night. There was a good supermaket, and laundry available.
The pool and pool bar were excellent.
We would recommend these apartments for couples or families, and we would stay there again. The location in puerto Rico was perfect, very near to the europa centre with all the shops and bars.

The Blue Star offers clean and spacious accomodation and although the accomodation is basic on holiday all you want is somewhere to sleep.
I would not recommend this hotel for those with walking difficulties as there are a lot of steps and the lifts do break down.
The Bar closes at 6 in winter which is unfortunate as you could not have a drink before going out, in saying that there are a few bars 5 mins away.

Blue Star is basic but very clean, The views from the large balcony were worth the price alone.  As others have already said the staff are very nice and keep the complex very clean.
Cockroaches are evident anywhere you go or stay in the Canaries
just go to the local supermarket and buy a spray.

Location is brilliant.

In the evening you can stroll up to the Europa centre where there is lots of entertainment and good restuarants
or you can jump in a taxi to the commercial centre down the town or even the restuarants bars that sweep around the back of the beautiful Amadores beach.

You have the choice of a beach at the old harbour where you can get all the water sports you want from jet ski , peddalo , to a ride in the big red ( a high powered jet boat )

there are plenty of excursions to places like  siox city ( a western cowboy town ) trips to local markets etc

transfer times from the airport are approx 45 min

enjoy

I came to the blue star in august 2006 with my boyfriend and had a great time. It's very basic but the location is such a great place to be in you don't need to spend all day in your room. The environment is very clean and are well looked after.

We had a brilliant time at the Blue Star Apartmens (02.12.06 1 week).  The only two points I would mention are the taxi fares down to the local town centre, Puerto Rico, being 3-4 euros each way which doesnt sound much but over a period of a week does add up.   The other point is the cockroaches in the room we had at least a dozen over a period of the week although it did seem clean and didn't smell or anything, one even landed on my head at 4.00am one morning which frightened the life out of me, but I suppose they were there before we were so you have to make allowances. We had the most fantastic holiday the weather was brilliant for the time of year and we were pleasantly surprised as the internet before we went said lots of cloud but we didn't see one all week it was gorgeous and came back with a fab tan. Highly recommend Puerto Rico, cheap and somethng for everyone, try the Bora Bora bar it's fantastic and very entertaining after 10.00pm.

Thoroughly enjoyed our week at the Blue Star. Despite the warnings, saw only three stray cats (none on the complex) and no cockroaches anywhere at all!
The apartments were as you would expect for the price, but spotlessly clean, as was the rest of the complex including the pool and pool area.
Parking was plentiful, and the supermarket on the complex very convenient.
Restaurant wasn't open during our stay, but the Europa-Centre shopping/restaurant mall is only 5 minutes walk away.

This is the seventh out of eight years we have stayed at the Blue Star, and whilst it is not in the five star bracket it is a very nice and clean appartment complex, any detremental remarks I would make are about the Brits I am sorry to say.
The staff try to help the best they can but they don't write and engrave their latest flames name on the lift doors or drop litter less than three feet from a litter bin.
I would recomend the blue star to anyone who requires nice rooms for a very reasonable price.
They say you have a sea view from any room on the complex and we have had rooms on all levels at the Blue Star and up to press we have not been dissapointed, being at the top of Puerto Rico you have the choice of Puerto Rico or Amadorus beaches, Amadorus being the newest and manmade beach, the place is spotless and has a good selection of resturantes.

19 April 2006
we read the reviews with dismay like many others. however, when we got there we were pleasantly surprised.the rooms were clean and spacious. all equipment was there in the kitchen. the view was fantastic. the staff were friendly.
oi think the worst thing was the distance from the centre but we were aware of that when we booked and only paid 2 euros 80 to get to both beaches and the centre.
when we arrived, our key did not work in the lock but it was sorted within 1 hour. there re some cats but i only saw 2/3 and they are no trouble.
as for cockroaches, the only ONE i saw was in the europa centre at the top of the hill.
there are somw decent restaurants and bars but i advise going to the pizza restaurant on the top floor of the europa centre as the food there is excellent and very reasonable. (i do know quite a lot about food as i am a qualified chef). for a snack i recommend the place opposite the irish bar. the staff are lovely and the food is ok.
all in all it was great. not the best holiday ever but for £200 during the school holidays it was the best value for money ever.

Great views of the sea from the balconies; nice bar/restaurant and shop; pool table; pool; great sunbathing facilities; lovely rooms; good location to shopping precinct with restaurants and children's trampolines, etc.Handy for cheap taxis and bus. Review of 'BLUE STAR'

11 April 2006
We were a large mixed party, family and friends including young children, who all booked together to stay in the Blue Start to attend the wedding of our niece.  All our apartments, although spread over 2 floors were all in close proximity and it was possible to have conversations from across balconys thereby making arrangements to meet so much easier.  The hotel sent my niece the most beautiful floral arrangement on the morning of the wedding as she stayed there overnight and several guests gave her a cheery send off.
The apartments although basic were spotlessly clean although the reliability of the lifts left a great deal to be desired, breaking down on a regular basis.  As we had two members with severe disabilities, this was often a nightmare!  The pool was to a high standard and we personally didn't experience the 'bag your sundbed at 6.00am syndrome' as there was also a secluded sunny sunbathing exclusive area available.
I would definitely recommend the Blue Star and hope to visit again in the future.
Reception staff were most helpful in organising taxis and ensuring our stay was as enjoyable as possible.  Full marks.

The Blue Star was a lovely place to stop, it was ideal for our needs. The downfall was that there was no one on reception, at all times of the day, this made it difficult as you had to carry the bulky key around. That is my only complaint. I would recommend it for someone wanting a short break, as there are no cooking facilities, only two hobs. Otherwise excellent, very clean and tidy and the staff were very pleasant. I would return for a break. Many thanks alpharooms.

After reading previous reviews about Blue Star I was dreading getting off the coach. But was very suprised when i arrived to find a very clean & large apartment with a huge balcony. We found one cockroach during our stay thats nothing compared to some hotels. We have stayed in Puerto Rico 3 times and have always gone for a cheap deal this one was by far the best for location, veiws & relaxed atmosphere. The lift is absolutley fine & broke down once during our 1 week stay all the hotels along this strip have these lifts. Theres a supermarket next door to the reception which is handy, otherwise the shopping centre is only a ten minute walk. One bit of advise when booking try and book an odd numbered room as these have the best views and balconys. We will be going back to the Blue Star on our next visit to Puerto Rico.

The Blue Star are basic but clean and functional apartments.  The pool area is large and clean and has a seperate sun deck and also seperate childrens pool (so you can escape childrens if you want to).  Snack bar offers a selection of food and beverages and are reasonably priced.  The higher apartments have great views over the pool and sea, although lower apartment views are not great. Only down side to this hotel is the slow and slightly unreliable lift.  The Apartments have a small supermarket and laundry plus they are located only a few steps away from the Europa centre.
