Ignore bad reviews of this hotel, our 5th visit and no complaints yet

27 November 2011
My wife and I have stayed at this hotel five times over the past few years, yes we have read the bad reviews but we have never had need to complain. Basically for the money it costs you cannot expect a top class accommodation we found it to be basic but clean, the towels and bedding were changed regularly and the apartment was cleaned daily, with the exception of Sundays. This year was the first time we stayed half board, never really having eaten in the restaurant before, the food was excellant the staff were very polite and helpful, I gave the staff all a good tip before we left because I was so impressed by how they performed. The hotel is on the outskirts of Albufeira and is in a quiet location, if you want nightclubs and the Strip, don't go there although taxis are cheap. There are plenty of shops and restaurants within easy walking distance, and beaches, this again was the first year that I have not hired a car we walked everywere this year and really enjoyed it. I would certainly recommend this hotel, ask for a first floor appartment, or studio, south facing which seem to be the best.
The best thing about my stay was…
Beautifull beaches, good food and gorgeous weather.

Very old furniture, good location

18 November 2011
Appartments with very old furnitures, air condition water drops in the sink. Reception has very friendly staff. Hotel area very nice (a lot of botanical). Very small floor (spiral). It is very difficult to get the bags in the appartment. I give 2 stars for the appartment and 4 stars for the complete hotel. For this money the appartment is acceptable. The Hotel is in the area of 10 km to the beach, the Algarve shopping mall, the funparcs and the highway.
The best thing about my stay was…
Good location

Cheap and Cheerful

18 November 2011
The studio's are dated and in need of an upgrade. You get what you pay for, so for a cheap getaway it's ok. The bus to Albefeira every day was a godsend as there is nothing to do at the resort unless you use the golf resort next door. It's in the middle of nowhere and Albufeira is approx 20 mins away on shuttle bus.
The best thing about my stay was…
The golf resort next door.

Very Basic but clean and spacious inside

26 October 2011
We got this really cheap so can't complain too strongly. Rooms are sparsely equipped (no kettle no toaster, iron available for hire). The apartments are very close together giving a bit of a holiday camp feel. We were going to sit by the pool one day but there were no cushions on the chairs so they were unusable. However the area is really nice and the beach is lovely. The room was clean and spacious for 2 of us and we got it really cheap so overall we had a good time. OK for up to a week but a car is recommended.
The best thing about my stay was…
The beach

GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY. BASIC AND CLEAN. PERFECT BASE.

02 October 2011
Very apprehensive due to the fact we paid so little for our stay. However, we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Apartments were adequate and clean and a perfect base to explore the surrounding area. A free mini bus provided twice a day to and from the town. Lovely quiet resort a few minutes walk away from the beach.
The best thing about my stay was…
peaceful and stress free break.

Good for cheap holiday - Don't expect luxury!!

29 August 2011
My wife ,son and I have just returned from 2 weeks self catering at the Bayside Salgados.Personnel is very friendly and helpful. BE PREPARED FOR 50 EUROS DEPOSIT WHICH THEY DEMAND!! The apartment is not very clean ,very basic and needs some renovating, TV has just only few channels. There is small restaurant on site open until midnight. The pool area is little bit shabby, not enough space all around and sunbeds around the pool, but we never used it - the local beach is a 15 minutes walk only! Within the location of the resort there is one small bar (200 yards) and 1 supermarket Oceano (10 minute walk)open until 8:30pm and fully supplied. To venture into Albuferia, hotel offers free minibus, taxis will cost you between €7-€10 one way.The hotel offers lots of entertainment (karaoke, trip to Lisbon, Fatima, Aquapark Dolphin watching....) The area the hotel is based at is very nice and quiet. Not any night clubs and noisy youngsters!!
The best thing about my stay was…
Good for persons who want to relax only !!

Fair Accomadation For The Price Paid

18 August 2011
We stayed at the Bayside Salgados Golf and Beach Resort, for one week at the beginning of August simple because the price suited the budget we wanted to pay. On arrivall we where a little saddened to find the pool bar not open, but pleased to see an effort was made to clean the pool area on a daily basis. Our stay was put on a low note day one when over hearing a rather rude British lady complaining about things at the site, rather loudly then promptly trying to tell other guests how bad they where treated by there tour operater. We Found the staff on site to be very friendly, and helpful, just some of the other guests abit rude. The description of the place on all sites check does not explain cleary how far it is from Albufiera, but check out the sightseeing bus which runs till late evening and is a good option to get around.
The best thing about my stay was…
Dinner at the Pampus restaurant in Albufiera Old Town

lack of customer service and information

Dirty apartement and missing lights bulbs. Excellent location and areas but not explored to atract customers. Swimming pool needed cleaning and bar area closed at all times. We have more fun in a English caravan park than Bayside salgados.

Loved it here

29 July 2011
We stayed here at the beginning of July and enjoyed our stay. The rooms are basic but very clean (that's what you pay for). The staff were very friendly and very helpful, we cannot fault them on anything. The pool is clean, however people do put their towels out on the sunbeds very early each morning but we went for the beaches so did not affect our stay. The beach is just a 10 minute walk as is the supermarket Oceana. There are just 3 restaurants up the road (a short walk). Prima Pasta do excellent food and it's inexpensive. Baysides restaurant is very nice and do good food also for very good prices. It is a very quiet location but that is what we wanted and we would go back, all in all a lovely cheap holiday.
The best thing about my stay was…
The beach and the friendly service

went 3 weeks in july weather 30 degrees with light breeze....nothing wrong with these basic stuff clean and no frills, good size studio's enough room for 3 with nice balcony, studios are all the same size, helpful staff ask if you dont get your towels changed etc, pool and sunbeds always full but we did the beach a 5/10 min walk, nudist area if you continue to the next resort which is a 1 hour walk along the beach, nice little resort if you fancy some un-quietness as bayside has nothing around apart from nice supermarket oceana, or you can head off on the road toward Torre Velha which has covey beaches which are to die for, not much else, the road walk is about 3/4 km, taxi's ask recept. for Donalds tel no. hes cheaper than the reg taxi and will drop you anywhere 3 euros to Torre Velha.
The best thing about my stay was…
beach great for kids

complete relaxation

18 July 2011
This holiday was exactly what we wanted and what the read up said. If you would like a holiday away from everything this is perfect. The rooms are clean and tidy, the beach is a slow 15 minute walk away and lovely. There is a little shop at the end of the road to get things from and just 5 minutes away a supermarket. There are about 6 restartants about. Albufeira is about 9 euros taxi ride away but the resort do run a mini bus into town twice a day. Town is the only place you will get night life. If your idea of a holiday is peace and relaxation this is the place to go.
The best thing about my stay was…
Not being pestered

Simple, clean and friendly.

18 April 2011
This Hotel is great for a bargain holiday. The staff were lovely and very helpful. We had a problem with the lock on the room door and they came to fix it instantly. The room/apartments were basic but clean..there was a tv with english BBC 1, a microwave, 2 hobbs and enough cooking utensils. The beds were made every day and the bath/ shower was good. We got the free bus in to the main town which was great but had to wait quite a while for the 2nd trip..the taxi into town was 10 Euros. We had alot of trouble finding the beach and any restaurants near the place but with some searching found it so wear comfy shoes! We didnt go in the pool or eat in the restaurant so cant comment on that but there was a little and big supermarket nearby. Basically if u want a cheap holiday in a quiet place its a great and simple place to stay. Would deffo stay there again! Definately go to Slide and Splash waterpark its great! and if you can afford it the restaurant overlooking the beach in Albefiera is v pricey but amazing food and service and the view is beautiful! get there 6.30ish for best seats..
The best thing about my stay was…
The waterpark and friendly staff.

dont go in winter. the apartments were cold very damp including beds and linen. the patio doors would nt slide .you needed to open them to let out condensation from shower room as there is no vents.the two hot plates blew the trip if you used it for two long .our view was a building site with machinery working sometimes all night .clothes were damp if you hung them in the wardrobe, beds hard pillows lumpy,on the plus side food in the restaurant was very good. and the staff were very friendly felt quite sorry for them at times as every one was complaining.
The best thing about my stay was…
the food in the restaurant.

Not so bad as some reviews said

15 October 2010
I was desperate to get away for some sun and relaxation. Having read previous reviews I was a bit worried but as I was only using the apartment to sleep, prepare food and wash, I decided to chance it, besides it only cost a few euros more than taking my own tent to a camp-site and it would be shelter from bad weather if there was any. I booked my transfer via Alpharooms at extremely reasonable cost and that was excellently well organised (Bayside do their own transfers but are way more expensive) true there were other travellers to drop off but this was not a problem to me as I was in no rush. When I arrived at Bayside the guy on reception was all ready for me. He checked me in, I paid my 50 euros deposit, booked a safe (which he said I could pay for at the end) and I was given my remotes for the aircon and tv, key and directions to my apartment. I had requested a higher floor as the ground floor apartments only had terraces and I had read there was a problem with cats and I like to have a balcony to relax on, I was very fortunate having been given apartment 3102 which had a large wrap around balcony which had the sun on it from when it rose to when it began to set. The apartment itself was very basic but spotlessly clean. The power shower was excellent with plenty of hot water, there was a door stop on the floor immediately in front of the toilet which caused me to trip a few times, this could be dangerous because you could quite easily crack your head on the granite washbasin surround but I was used to it by the end of the week, the towels were soft, some new, some not so, but certainly clean. I found the bed comfortable but very firm, the bed linen was clean, thin through age, but was soft against your skin. The pillows were awfully lumpy, like the cheap ones you buy at Ikea that it says you can wash but go into lumps when dry, almost every place I've stayed has rubbish pillows so I always bring my own travel pillow so I was prepared for that. The largely wooden wardrobe and headboard had that peppery damp smell that you often find a the seaside which was a bit unpleasant but bearable. The kitchenette had a small kettle, a brand new microwave and fridge and a two ring electric hotplate, it is obvious this is designed for preparing simple snacks rather than full scale meals. The crockery and cutlery was stored on high shelves above the sink which was ridiculous, I am only 5ft tall and had to stand on one of the chairs to get cups, saucepans plates etc down which was worrying since the chairs were flimsy garden type chairs and the price-list for breakages was frightening. I was in a studio for three people so was able to use the third bed in the living area as a sofa which was comfortable, especially as there were three very large cushions to relax on. There was a small portable colour tv which had three Portugese channels, one Dutch, one German, Sky news and CBBC (RTP2 has weather forecasts during the morning news programmes and RTP1 showed English language films most nights ) The reception area had a small book exchange which was very useful for me, it also had big screen TV in the bar/restaurant area. I didn't use the bar or the restaurant so I can't comment on either. Immediately around the pool were many loose slabs and there was green stuff growing on the bottom of the pool (although I witnessed the staff cleaning the pool everyday) so I didn't fancy using it but others did and seemed to enjoy it. Bayside is located away from other bars and restaurants, although there is a pizza place next door that does breakfasts , I never saw anyone eating there, there is a tiny minimarket on the corner but I found it was 50% more expensive than the nearest supermarket which I also found fairly expensive. The walk to the beach takes about 10 minutes through a residential estate but passes the Oceanus supermarket which has a cashpoint and small cafe selling pastries. the path to the beach is pretty hard to spot as it is part of the VAST CS Salgados Dunas complex which is nearing completion ( a walk through here is a surreal experience as there is noone around and luxurious looking infinity pools bubble way in the silence, weird!) If you spot the path you will find it is a short walk past a building site to Salgados beach (incidentally I would be interested to know just how many thousand palm trees have been planted on the CS Dunas complex!) You can go down the steps here to the beach past Luis beach bar, or follow the road around past two large beachside villas to Gale beach which has a couple of beach bars/restaurants with toilets and showers and a ice cream/snack kiosk. the beaches are stunning but he waves can knock you off your feet even at the shore so best take heed of the lifeguards or check the flags for the swimming areas. If you want to visit (the even more expensive but better stocked) Apolonia supermarket at Gale and don't have a car it seemed quicker to walk along the beach than the main road. All in all I had a lovely restful holiday but there is nothing much at Salgados or Gale so that needs to be kept in mind. i don't think i would return to Bayside but it fulfilled my needs on this occasion.
The best thing about my stay was…
The fragrance of the gardens and proximity to stunning beaches
