I was given a lovely quiet room, overlooking the sea. The hotel staff are discreetly attentive, and the hotel generally has a feeling a class about it.
Although it was half-term, there weren't too many children, which was a pleasant surprise. However, the hotel does provide ample facilities for children, including a very good supoervised activity area near the pool. The spa was wonderful - I treated myself to a massage during my stay and would highly recommend.
The pools were lovely, and the pool area is large enough for all sunbathers. There didn't seem to be such an aggressive sunlounger reserving system (i.e. towels reserving best spots before 8m!) going on at this hotel as at some others I have experienced, which was a welcome relief.
The evening meal wasn't great for vegetarians, but I'm sure it would suit most regular tastes. Breakfast, on the other hand, was great for any taste.
There isn't a great deal going on in Puerto Santiago generally, but that was perfect for me - I wanted a nice, calm and welcoming resort and I was extremely happy with my stay there. I would go back again.

The Hotel food has to be the best I have ever had, plenty of choice what ever time you decided to eat at in the set times also well presented. The Resteraunt has Excellent views through a glass wall that overlooks the cliffs on the other side of the bay,you can also eat outside on a patio area if you wish. Most of the rooms have stunning views out to sea, or over the bay. A lovely walk to los Gigantis take your camera I got some stunning shots, the busses are very good value, there is a shuttle bus service from the Hotel that was free as well. Entertainment was weak some nights, but better to very good on others. We found we were getting on the bus traveling to diffent places a lot, as I hate sun bathing. We went in march 2006 the weather was hot, but pleasent, we soon realised that we had made the best choice for the money we spent. Not the cheapest Hotel but very good value for the money in my opinion.

Review of 'Barcelo Santiago'
02 November 2006
My husband and I had booked in the Barcelo Santiago for 4 days as we were buying an apartment in Los Gigantes, the next resort. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the hotel. The rooms were adequate (a mirror in the bedroom over the dressing table would have been useful)but overall very good. The swimming pool area was lovely with plenty of sunbeds (although the silly brigade of 7.30 towel reservers were in operation!). The food was buffet style but again very good with plenty of variety. There was entertainment every night. The staff were more than helpful which is not the norm. All in all a very pleasant stay and I would not hesitate to recommend the Barcelo as excellent value for money. We would certainly stay there again.

Having visited this hotel many times, I would give it five stars in every catagory plus. There is something for everybody and every age group. We will be returning again in November for three weeks in a junior suite, and cant wait. My advice to anybody is "forget the rest and go to the best" i.e. Barcelo Santiago. Los Gigantes.

Review of 'BARCELO SANTIAGO'
06 February 2006
I cannot find fault in this hotel. We have been two years in a row and will return this year also. The facilities are really great, the rooms are very nice, the junior suite for a family of 4 is fantastic.
The food is out of this world, something different everyday and so much to choose from three times a day.
There is also a poolside bar which do really nice snacks, sometimes the children did not want breakfast but would have a snack later on.
All staff in the hotel are very friendly and helpful.
One of the best parts of the holiday is the entertainment, they run a daytime programme with games for adults and a kids club for children, our children loved the kids club and really liked the friendly team that run the entertainment.
My husband who is not one to sit in the sun enjoyed the fun and games, it is a great way to meet other people in the hotel and make friends.
In the evening there is a childrens disco followed by fun and games and all the children really enjoy it. After this it is followed by fantastic shows, some singing and dancing and some very funny.
There is something for everyone, there is a gym, a sauna, a spa, 2 pools and a baby pool, 2 bars, a fantastic buffet style resturant, all the alcoholic drinks you can choose from, day and evening entertainment, good rooms, very very clean, great hotel staff, a games room, a mini club, a small park, a garden with flowers, the views are amazing and the walk along the side of the hotel looking out to sea is fantastic.
The pools are really good there is a lifeguard watching over but even if you want to watch the children but not get in there are so many places to relax while watching them swim safely.
The rooms are cleaned daily and fresh towels including beach towels everyday if you like. The rooms are always spotless once the maid had been.
The only complaint my family had was going home.
