Extremely pleased with this hotel which did not charge an excess for being a single person. The staff could not have been more attentive and the standard of cleanliness was excellent. It is quite a long way from the sea and a car is really necessary. On the down side, the hotel has written rules about the standard of dress for dinner, the wearing of shorts at dinner is not permitted. Very regrettably this was not enforced at all and it would be so easy to enforce. I was there for a month and the buffet fare became a little monotonous. I would recommend. the hotel.

Barcelo Suites Gran Canaria

29 December 2009
The Barcolo Suites are well worth a visit. My partner and I have stayed in Gran Canaria 15 times and this is the best accomodation we have enjoyed. Towels changed often, sheets changed once, TV has BBC News and CNN (the only English channels). There is little noise at night and the building is enclosed. Balcony has a door into the bedroom and the sitting area. Avoid using hotel parking as they charge 5 euros per night. You can park along the road beside the Spar shop for free. The location is comfortable for walking to the Yumbo so we liked not having to depend on taxi's. The place does need to be freshened up a bit. You can get cheaper accomodation elsewhere but it is worth staying here. We only used this as a base and were not interested in lying by the pool or eating there so we cannot comment on these facilities. We intend to go back to this hotel when we next visit GC.

Barcelo Las Margaritas - revisited 4 years on

09 November 2009
I stayed at this hotel about 4 years ago - at the time I always rated it as one of the best (budget-type/better class hotels in Playa). My return in November 2009 has confirmed that this is still the case. My Verdict: Fantastic food, served well by pleasant staff. The choice was superb and hot plates. Clean linen tablecloths and napkins. A choice of good wine/beer with meal You never felt rushed to finish your meal - this was the same at any of the 3 meal times. The rooms - cleaned daily, good shower and strong water flow. Towels changed daily if required. Good views form the balcony - and quiet at night. Entertainment - a great team of "animators" - who took time to speak with all around the pool. They worked well together as a team and on two separate evenings we were treated to visiting guests - namely an acrobatic routine and a singing troupe - which were well received by all the audience. The only downside I have and this is a small grumble is that the entertainment finished most evenings around 22:30. At that point most of the audience left to go back to their rooms or onto the disco within the hotel - which I never found busy. The team need to look at this area in the future. OVERALL - the hotel looks a little tired in part - she needs a lick of paint and the carpets are slightly worn around the edges. However, it is still an outstanding hotel which I would recommend to anyone, single, couple or family for first class service, dining and good value for money. If you haven't given Las Margaritas a try - do so you won't be disappointed.

Staff very friendly and nice. Apartment very large and no noise at nights. Very good animation. Good food, but some years ago cuisine was better.

Barceló Margaritas - The Truth

03 April 2009
Barceló Margaritas My boyfriend & I stayed here under half board (so breakfast & dinner were included but not lunch) for a week. It was a major emotional rollercoaster, of ups, downs and mediocrity I must admit. The first day we arrived we threw our belongings down so as to explore, and placed a do not disturb sign on the door. When we returned we found that one of the staff had helped themselves to 40euros (20 from each of our wallets) this was infuriating since even with travel insurance the hotel and the Thomas Cook reps were extremely unhelpful & unremorseful. The rest of the review I will put in bullet points: ..: The Good :.. O The weather is great in March O There are two outdoor pools O There are plenty of sun loungers O Reception staff are well mannered O The decor of the hotel is lovely ..: The Bad :.. O There is little to do after 6:00pm as the pool is closed & the shows are not for everyone O The catering staff are (for lack of a better word) annoying O The rooms have no ceiling light so it can get very dim at night O No English television apart from 2 news channels O There is no security, so anyone can enter into the hotel (our money was stolen on the first day) O No entertainment O Uncomfortable beds O Cockroaches in the rooms O Toilet is smelly & seems unhygienic because of this O The room is blandly decorated O The room service is poor, as the service takes so long you might as well leave the room and fetch whatever it is yourself O The staff do not really speak English, so asking for things is usually unsuccessful O Everything is very expensive... €2 for a tiny bottle of coca-cola... O The food is of very poor quality; warm (never hot) bland; and very repetitive O The Bath/Shower was appalling; the tub had ground in dirt and the showerhead was coming off of the wall O An iron we paid €22 for blew the fuse in the room, and we had to sit in darkness for 30minutes before a technician came to fix it. They didn’t replace the iron or refund our money! O The towels that were being replaced were dirty & old looking, also the bathroom facilities were the bare minimum. In brief: I would NOT go here again, and if you want entertainment/clubs/fun - avoid this... definitely not worth the 4* rating.

Excellent

13 February 2009
Made my first visit at Barcelo Margaritas here in feb. 2009. (Have visited Cran Canaria more than 20 times) To make it shortly: Everything was very fine and the staff were friendly and nice. The room was nice and clean and no noise at nights. So I can´t give a better recommendation then saying, that I surely will come back Ove Hedeager Pedersen, Aarhus, Denmark

EXCELLENT!!

24 September 2008
We have stayed at the Barcelo Las Margaritas five times, and will shortly be returning for our sixth visit (hi folks!) . As far as we are concerned, hotels just don't get any better than the Margaritas. The rooms are spotless, the service excellent, the facilities comprehensive, the location just right (it's not on the beach, it's not next to the Yumbo, it's a short comfortable amble from both - and if you are too lazy to walk, they lay on cabs and coaches!). The gardens are beautifully laid out, the bars utterly pristine... I could go on endlessly. The staff always go out of their way to be of assistance. It is also central for many of the best bars/restaurants/clubs in the area, while remaining sufficiently distant to be quiet for when you want to sleep. I cannot recommend the hotel sufficiently highly. But I think I've given it a good try!!

Some issues

12 May 2008
Upon arrival, the friendly reception staff allocated me a room on the top (8th) floor. The 2 lifts serving the restaurant were out of order for the entire stay so, having waited 5 minutes for the lift, I was annoyed to find the room was not made up. Back down to reception, and yet again the 2nd room was also not made up! This time the reception lady went to find me a room that WAS ready! Rooms are ok but beginning to look a little tired now. The carpet was stained, one of the drawers was broken in the desk, and there were cracked tiles in the bathroom. Cleanliness was suspect- i dropped a tablet on the bathroom floor and it stayed there for the whole week. I stayed full board and can honestly say the food was excellent! Great english breakfast and almost too much choice for evening meal. Restaurant staff unfortunately did not mirror those on the front desk- woe betide you if you sat in the wrong place at the resturant! It's the 3rd time i've stayed at Margaritas and although it has some issues I would probably stay there again if I could get this rate. It's not 4 star though- 3 star more appropriate.

Brilliant

27 June 2007
It was brilliant, you couldnt grumble at the all inclusive, food was decent, beer was on tap all day, the entertainer with the goatee and grey hair was a bit of a crazy guy! All in all a good place to stay, plenty of yumbo men so be warned!

nice hotel

28 May 2007
we stayed at the barcelo las margaritas in may, it is a nice clean hotel, but the location is not so good at least 3 klm from the beach, although the hotel provides a free bus, my family enjoyed our stay but i think this hotel is more suitable for older people 55 plus, but overall it was good the food was quite nice and the staff were very helpful.

Review of 'Barcelo las Margaritas'

12 January 2007
The one thing that stands out above all else was the quality of the food on offer. We were there for three nights on a half board basis and both the breakfasts and dinners were superb and better than you'd expect from a four star hotel.

Staff were very friendly and they even allowed me to use their computer to print out some material off the internet as the public computers in the hotel didn't have the facility.

Rooms were adequate but have stayed in better. Little on the small side.

Evening entertainment was limited in volume and quality.

Great for families though with plenty iof organinised activities.

Nice swimming pools but they don't get a complete day's sunshine because of the height of the buildings which shade certain parts of the day.

But overall excellent hotel and great value for money.

We stayed in the apartments of this hotel on an all inclusive basis. The rooms are lovely and clean as well as being spacious and well equipt.the food was good but could have been warmer,we found all the staff to be friendly and helpfull.the only downside was there was no direct route between apartments and hotel dining room. if you have trouble with steps, you have to walk down the street.there is a free bus to maspolomas which is a must. the apartment pool was nice with no fighting for beds, but a little short on brollies.all in all we had a nice holiday, and would go again. We stayed in the apartments of this hotel in Novemeber 2005 and had a fantastic time.  The rooms are lovely and clean as well as being spacious.  We stayed on a self catering basis and found we had all the facilities we required, microwave, toaster, kettle, etc.  The daily maid service every day, was much appreciated, no waiting a couple of days for clean towels.  The pool and gym faciliites were excellent, very clean with plenty of sun loungers. I would highly recommend these apartments - the hotel looked very nice too.

Stayed in jan 05 for the second time. Absolutly fab hotel. Food is the best that any hotel offers. Great for more mature couples, prices for stays in excess of 3 weeks absolute bargains. Great value all round. We will be going back again sometime this year. We are aged 43
