Winter Break

25 January 2010
Our first stay at this hotel, and selected the AI board, it was just what we expected and more. After reading reviews I was a little apprehensive but everything was fabulous. All of the staff were really friendly and nice greetings on a daily basis. Requests for extra ie pillows and teacups were dealt with sraight away and delivered to our rooms. The dining area could be a liitle fraught at breakfast and evening meals but there did not appear to be enough staff in there to deal with the number of guests, but there was a variety of food and freshly grilled meat and fish, real plenty of choice. The rooms were clean and comfortable and were cleaned daily. No problems getting served in bars with drinks as read in other comments. The walk to the centre is 20-30mins stroll along the promenade was really pleasant and plenty of seats along the way , this stretch enable you to see the sandy coves along to the centre. A most enjoyable stay and would go again

Great hotel

08 December 2009
We just returned from 12 wonderful days at the Barcelo Lanzarote hotel. Normally we go for self catering holidays and have visited Lanzarote several times. The cost of half-board at the Barcelo was very attactive and we decided to give it a try. Although a huge hotel complex, we did not find it too oppressive. In our experience nearly all the staff (including chambermaids, waiters and bar staff) were polite and friendly, although the restaurant was sometimes understaffed and over stretched and finding clean tables to sit at was sometimes a little difficult. Food choice and quality was on the whole excellent and we really looked forward to our meals. Rooms were cleaned daily to a high standard and we got a south facing sea view as requested. Inconclusion, a good choice and excellent value for money.

Lovely relaxing break

11 October 2009
Just returned from a 5 night break to the Barcelo Lanzarote Hotel, in Costa Teguise. Hotel is first class. Myself and my sister decided to treat ourselves to a mini break, seeing as we both had new babies in May, so this was definitely about relaxing!!! Hotel staff were all helpful and friendly. Hotel room was cleaned daily. Food in restaurant was delicious, and a wide choice was always available. Pool area was kept spotless, and plenty of sunbeds around. Loads of activities for young and old alike. The only drawback to the hotel, is the distance into Costa Teguise itself. But taxis are plentiful and the journey into Playa de las Cucharas is only 3 euro, and well worth it. All in all, a pleasant holiday. Can't fault it at all.

Excellent Hotel

23 July 2009
We were delighted with our stay at this hotel. Food is very good, Something to suit everyone at all meals. Lots of variety, quite a high standard. No queues ever. Soup at dinner is worth checking out. Initially we thought complex was huge when we arrived and saw 7 blocks but this was not evident at all throughout our stay. No great rush for sunloungers although we put towels down at kiddies pool about 8.15 each day. There was always spare loungers to be found at one of the pools at any stage really in the day. People always coming and going. Entertainment team were very hardworking. Always something going on for everyone. Great also for 8 - 15 year olds - never saw so many teens getting involved. Kids club great-6 and 2 year old went a lot. Night entertainment very family orientated. Our kids loved it. It was the first place we stayed where the room could be locked with key from inside which was a big plus for us with small boys. Would go back again. Had a hire car and went to volcano one day- good trip cost 16 euro for family to get in. Got packed lunch each from hotel that day. Fruit water etc. No problem- book day before. Plenty of parking outside hotel. Main pool has three adjoining slides into pool. Great for the 4+ kids - even the adults seemed to enjoy it. Rooms were cleaned every day and towels changed. Kept the room on last day till 5pm for extra 20 euro which was well worth it with the kids. 2 year old locked me out on balcony one evening- took me about 25 minutes to summon help from appartment below but reception were quick to come and let me back in. Enjoy your stay there.

kids had a ball

29 June 2009
This hotel is very large comprising 7 blocks and about 1200 rooms. It is set in lovely gardens. It is not the four star we are used to at home, but then it doesn't have the hefty price tag of 4 star hotel either. We had a great holiday, the food was lovely, the kids loved the pool slide and the rooms were cleaned to a very high standard. We got a great deal with alpharooms as usual and would definetly return. The anamacion team were fabulous and the mini club was the best I have ever experienced. I would not recommend this hotel for couples looking for a quiet week away, but for families who like to participate in activities, I challenge you to find a better place at a similar price.

Great Break

08 June 2009
Just back from an all-inclusive weeks stay at the Barcelo, the restaurant choice was excellent, food for even the fussy eaters. The entertainment was great, day and evening. Well done to Andres, Kay & Racquel - they were brilliant with the kids and also the adults. We hope to return next year with family and friends.

revisit Barcelo Lanzerote

30 May 2009
returned to the Barcelo after a year, and thought it was looking decidedly worn. After saying that, the reception gladly changed our room from a double to twin (myself and my daughter aged 15) as we prefer separate beds - no problem at all. I felt that the restaurant choice was a not as good as the previous year, but the food was still of a high standard. If you use their towels for the pool, you can only change them once free of charge - if you wanted to change them after that there was a charge (I dont remember that last time either). The animation team were brilliant, and there was lots going on most of the time. The main swimming pool was freezing, but luckily it doesnt bother me, so I had it to myself most of the time. I must mention the beds - they had what looked and felt like a waterproof cover on the mattresses, and each time you moved these created a creaking/groaning sound, also they made you sweat - not very nice at all. I might go back again, but could possibly find myself a better value hotel. Sand & Eli

Barcelo Lanzarote Reception area- Large spacious Marble area with very friendly and helpful staff. Bar Area- 2 large bar areas. 1 is a relaxing bar with areas to play chess and pool, also satellite tv and sitting area. The second bar is where all the entertainment happens providing a different show each night. Restaurant area- Nice and clean, pleasant staff, although some were slow in removing the dishes. Food was good, enjoyed it every night. I'm vegetarian and there was plenty of choice for me. Breakfast you could have cereal, continental or full english breakfast. Bedrooms - Need tender loving care. Dont get me wrong the bedrooms are a tidy size and were cleaned on a daily basis but the majority of furniture needs to be updated. Stayed at the Barcelo Fuerteventura last November and the hotel rooms were much much nicer. Also the beds are very hard!! Facilities- The corridor and staircase areas need to be updated, are a bit dated. Pool Areas- Well kept area. The complex consists of 5 pools. The main pool area has a snack bar with a tidy size pool which is freezing and a heated pool which has slides for all those kids out there...Good Fun!! My favourite pool was hidden over near the tennis courts, it is a decking area and is a little wind trap. Was nice and quiet.... Entertainment in the day-Tennis,Archery,rifle shooting etc Costa Teguise is located on a lovely bay with some nice beaches and coves. My husband also enjoyed the snokelling in the sea, however he did wear a wetsuit. As others stated there is a free bus into Teguise every half hour and it takes about 50 minutes to walk along the promenade into town. Nice quiet resort.

disappointed

14 February 2009
i was disappointed by this hotel - it is large and therefore, to me, soul-less. they seem to have forgotten the small details that count. i found the rooms very basic with no local information or hotel information, no channel guide for the tv, broken towel rails, shower head, bedside lights. one light that didn't work at all. i had to pay 4 euros for a tea tray which arrived without a spoon... i'm sorry to say i've stayed in better bed-and-breakfast places or hostels. i don't feel this hotel deserves it's 4 stars, it seems to me a maximum 3 star place.

great weekend break

26 January 2009
Having tried most of the other AI hotels on the island, we eventually tried the Barcelo. Considering the Very reasonable price with Alpharooms we expected to not be overly impressed (the Iberostar Calero and RIU Club Paraiso are twice the price!) How wrong! Friendly helpful check in, OK they were busy and we had to wait a short while but each new guest was given as much info. as they required and rooms were changed when possible. Rooms are clean and fresh even though the corridors and communal areas are getting a bit tatty, she 's getting on a bit!! Beds comfy and 'big' fluffy towels, changed daily. Request for extra pillows promptly supplied. Bar staff, waiters/ waitresses helpful and friendly. Most impressed by the quality and variety of the food, better than most hotels that we have tried, downsides 1) bathroom water could have been hotter. 2) Premium drinks now come at a supplement, only small ie 1.50 euros for Gordons or Smirnoff. Going again next month !!!

What is a short title?

28 December 2007
This is a good hotel with no serious problems. Just a couple of negatives first. The water in the room never got hot enough - warm at night, barely luke warm in the morning. Also the swimming pools are not warm leading to them being under utilised. However, the hotel has much to commend it. The decor of the hotel is solid four star. the rooms are comfortable and spacious also kept spotlessly clean, as indeed is the whole hotel. The service at the bars is quite good but they could use more staff at times. We were all inclusive which I recommend, the beer is San Miguel both draught and bottled. There are also a number of branded wines and spirits e.g. Martini, Tio Pepe, Smirnoff etc. This is not always the case with A.I. I have read reviews in the past criticizing the food. Anyone who cannot find food to their liking here should not really be leaving the house. There is a huge selection of high quality food. The imaginative salads and fish dishes are particularly good. Some of the food could be hotter but there is a microwave in the restaurant for diners to use if required. The Costa Teguise centre was not particularly to our liking, but we hired a car to tour the unspoilt island - highly recommended. We would not hesitate to use the hotel again.

This hotel was brill. The food was great, plenty of choice, room kept clean and beds made daily. Poolside bar good. Did notice on one of the reviews a comment about having to pay extra for food. This is if you want something not included in the AI. Found the AI range was good enough without paying extra for other food. Entertainment was good, the Flamenco daners were out of this world. Free drinks end at 11pm but managed to get tipsy by that time. Would recommend Loco Coco(cocktail) drunk these every night, WOW. Staff very friendly and helpful. This hotel impressed us that much that we are looking to book with the same chain for the next holiday. One word of caution though, the pool is NOT heated and was rather cold, My husbands extremities took a battering!! Go and enjoy and have a great time.

Review of 'Barcelo Lanzarote'

11 December 2006
Having read other reviews, I was slightly concerned that I was going to be met by an ugl hotel, miles from anywhere, with bad food and smell for the de-salination plant.  Not so.
Yes, this hotel is some distance from the centre of town, but a courtesy bus solved that problem.  The walk into town is do-able.  It is more of a pleasant stroll than a major hike. Nightlife, however would have to be centred around the hotel as it is possibly too far to walk at night unless you get a taxi.If you like roasts, then you are all set!! Roast veal, duck, beef, chicken, turkey etc.  Otherwise the meals can perhaps get a bit samey.  Having said that, the hotel was no worse than most other hotels I have visited. A taxi from the airport is only 15 minutes.  I wouldn't travel by courtesy coach, it's not necessary. I always found the staff helpful and pleasant, even though the majority of guests were Spanish.  The only problem we faced was the location of our room in block 5.  There were stairs to negotiate whichever way we attempted to get to the room as the lift did not go to our section.  The layout of the hotel was somewhat confusing.  I wouldn't stay at this hotel again, purely because I prefer the other side of the island.  If you like Costa Teguise and don't want to be in the centre of town, this hotel is fine.

Review of 'Barcelo Lanzarote'

20 October 2006
We booked our weeks holiday All Inclusive and this is one of the best bar service that i've stayed in however the A.I. finishes at 11pm and the bars stay open till 1pm for a late disco. The quality of the food was average and very repetitive. Okay if you like steak and chops every night! I would have preferred a choice of cold meats to go with the salad stuff they had almost every sitting. The choice for the kids was not great either and we found the variety of food at the snack bar during the day to be much better however 90% of the food on the menu you have to pay a supplement (30% discount on the price). My kids love pizza and we had to pay for this almost every day and spaghetti also. The entertainment for the kids and adults during the day was superb and some of the evening shows were also good. A free courtesy bus ran almost every half hour into the town. I would definately go back here again but eat out more often!

A very good hotel, plenty of sunbeds around the pool with pool bar as well as a couple of sun terraces with loads more, there is also a quite pool with more beds behind block two,the food is of a good standard. the hotel is a good thirty minute walk to the town but the hotel will call a cab that only costs 4 euros, there is a good mixture of Spanish, English,Italian,German, and French, the entertainment team work hard but if you get involved be prepared to get wet. . Overall a very good hotel and if you dont want to spend your time with the pie and mash brigade then a good choice.

Review of 'BARCELO LANZAROTE'

16 June 2006
We stayed at the Barcelo Lanzarote in Oct 2005 and had a fantastic stay.  The Hotel had been recently refurbished and was very clean. On arriving, the reception area was large and staff very friendly and helpful. Our room was a good size and very clean.  We sayed on a half board basis - the dining room is very spacious and food was excellent with a good choice for breakfast (Champagne if desired!) and dinner was excellent too. The Pools are a good size and again kept very clean. Bus to beach every 30 mins. (7 minute journey). Would definately visit a barcelo hotel again.
