What our customers say

Well worth a visit.

There is no such thing as Bara Junior. There are meant to be three sister hotels, Gran Bara, Bara Junior and Bara Lodge. The only place is called the Bara Hotel.

Airport taxi about 4000 Hungarian Forints (HUF), minibus is just over half that. No problems checking in, show your voucher. Pay 1000 HUF deposit for the room key card.

Lovely room, ensuite shower, arm chairs, wardrobe, table, small minibar. T.V. -english news, weather, sport. Bed made and towels changed daily, you can choose to re-use your towels.

Only about 50 rooms, the rest of the hotel and other sister buildings just rubble out of our window. Building work start at 7am Mon-Sat until dusk. The area is demolished and they are levelling it out. Pretty noisy, however. . .

The noise didn't bother us as its just a place to sleep. Unless you want a lie-in there's no problem, because you need to be up by 9 to get brekkie so don't let it put you off.

Breakfast is great. Tea, Coffee (hungarian coffee is lovely), chocolate, juices. Cereals, yoghurt, bread. brioche, cheese, hams, salami, pastries keep you going for continental. Mini sausages and scrambled eggs if you want something hot. Eat until you're full.

Location is not really central for going out, but okay for some sights. Taxi to bottom of hill is 1200-1500 HUF. We just walked down the hill, it's about 20 mins, and you hit a bridge. Immediately on the other side is the main pedestrain tourist street Vaci Utca.

Going out is best at the other side of the river (Pest) so you may want a taxi back, but we just walked. You can negotiate a price or run it on a meter, we never had a problem.

Reception 24 hours and at least 1 of the guys will speak pretty good english.  Take advantage of the little advert cards near the desk, they tell you what to do and get you discounts.

It's easy to find places to eat and drink. Small cafes for drinks and snacks, larger restaurants for big meals. Local bars are well hidden and often down a flight of stairs look out for beer signs in windows next to big oak doors. 300-400 HUF per pint (half liter) for local bar. Upto 900 HUF at a tourist place (normal brit price).

Keram = please, Koozi = thanks. Egya = one, Keta = two. Sure = beer, Bor = wine.

From the high location quick walk to the Citadella - good for history and Hungary's role in wars.
