we had a jnr suite with great sea view on h/b, set menu was ok 5 choices each course, a'la carte looked better so might go b/b next time and use that menu. service was 1st class, staff helpful and friendly, all we met spoke very good english, most guests english or irish. if driving parking needs thinking about, there is a public car park near hotel, i parked there walked to hotel 200 yards booked in and they sent a porter with me to guide me to hotel car park 9 euros a day beware public park charges 1 euro per hour.all in all a good place to chill out , no ravers so teenagers may get bored, Ill go back.

Our accomodation was B & B as there are plenty of restaurants within yards of the hotel. Breakfast was very good, plenty of variety and good service. Rooms were very good with sea view worth the extra. Hotel location is spot on, but it is a tricky place to find by car, and the hotel car park is 9 euros per night. All in all very pleased with the hotel and we would certainly stay there again. Nerja is a nice town and is well worth a visit

weekend at the Balcon

05 December 2007
Have visited Nerja now for several years and have always had good accomodation . This time we were taking friends out for their first visit so we thought we would go for something special and we weren`t dissapointed the Balcon was absolutely superb, we had two standard double rooms which were spotless and well big enough for us. The staff were friendly and couldn`t do enough for us. The breakfast buffet catered for every taste possible and was frequently replenished with fresh food. Its December but everything was open even the outdoor pool which was heated. The whole weekend was perfect, from the location of the hotel which looks over ocean, the service we recieved wich was second to none, to the weather which was 70 plus. Our friends were well impressed and we would recommend it to anyone who wants that someting a little special.

Hotel Balcon Europa

21 October 2007
Our third visit to the Balcon, and as usual, we had an excellent time; travelled with my dad, and chose a 'standard' room as we would not be spending much time in it- This was a little 'compact' with no balcony- I think it's worth paying a little more for a sea view with a balcony. As ever, a breakfast to die for- no need to eat until the evening after that, and the ever-friendly staff who seem to stay for years. Cannot fault this place!

Very well run Hotel, great location in the old town at the centre of all the best restaurants and shops. Small private beach with no problems with Sun Loungers. The pool is small but Ok for the occasional dip. Rooms have good air con and a fridge for chilling the Freixenet for that late afternoon drink on the balcony. Some superb restaurants nearby that also have some spectacular coast views. Breakfast is good, only went B/B, why would you go full board with so many other places to eat? There is not much in the way of clubs or live music in the town although the Irish pub next door had a good live band followed by a DJ. It also has a great terrace for cocktails. We visited in June 2007, the weather was superb.

26 June 2007
Very friendly, SUPERB location , spotlessly clean, great breakfast buffet , idillyic private beach and fantastic private outdoor pool/sunbathing area.We will DEFINATELY be booking to stay here again. The room was smaller than expected and a proper double bed was NOT provided . This is a small gripe because everything else was honestly top-notch.Importantly , there was NO party-noise when you were sleeping , no yobs , no stag/hen parties and the only pains are children whose parents let them chase the ferrell cats who live close to the hotel-please remember to feed these lovely, peaceful animals if you visit-dry cat food is on sale in the supermarkets! The staff were very efficient and are always willing to help. This is one of the more desirable hotels I have stayed in and this combination of beautiful Nerja and The Balcon de Europa is one I would and do recommend to any couple who enjoy peace , quality , private facilities and location from your holiday.SUPERB!!!

If you want a hotel where there is not too much noise in a perfect location and you are in not too much of a hurry to 'sign the chit' for the G&T or Cafe con leche this is the one.  The staff & management right from the chambermaids to the Reception manager are very friendly and willing to please. Breakfast is good and other meals are 'good for the typical spanish half board situation'. Hotel & rooms spotlessly clean, Virtually a private beach with a nice pool deck if you don't like sand between your toes. You don't get better than this hotel in Nerja.  If you are over 35, enjoy good restaurants and friendly bars without too much noise and haven't been to Nerja before, get there.  If you are under 35 and looking somewhere to party all night I would suggest you turn right when you come out of Malaga airport instead of left. We'll be back.

Stayed in Balcon de Europa for one week end February.  The hotel is wonderfully situated right on the Balcony.  We have absolutely no complaints whatsoever.  Nerja is a lovely town also and we much prefer it to the other towns along the coast.

A great location, wonderful views and wxcellent service. The rooms are comfortable and well heated in February. The breakfasts are served overlooking the sea and cater for every taste. The reception Staff are the most pleasant and helpful we have ever encountered.
Hot tip - We had B&B and had a meal in a different restaurant every night and there are still loads more to enjoy another time.

We have stayed at this hotel once before. It has a great location. The accommodation is of a very good standard and well maintained. The staff are efficient and friendly. Its one drawback on our previous visit was the poor quality of food served in the evening. This has improved beyond recognition and now compares favourably with any 4 star hotel we have used in the Mediterranean.Overall good value but make sure you pay for a sea view-well worth the extra.

Hotel is set in the best location in  Nerja, central and right on the beach. The breakfast was excellent but the evening meal was not quite as good, partly due, I think, to the fact that the main restaurant was being refurbished & we had our meals in the beachside restaurant. Room was fine but with no view, a sea view with balcony was quite a bit more and as we were visiting in January we didn't think it worth paying the extra. I would definitely stay there again.

The hotel is in an excellent location in the heart of Nerja.  We stayed early December and the weather was really warm, in fact we were sunbathing on the balcony and swimming in the hotels heated outdoor pool. The rooms are spacious and well equiped and are kept spotlessly clean. The Staff are professional, polite, helpful and friendly.
Breakfast is first class with a choice of Continental and English, I wasn't too impressed with the evening meal but it would not stop me returning to the hotel in the future.

The Hotel Balcon Europa has the best location of any Hotel in Nerja and provides great comfort. Very clean, staff very friendly (will always salute you when passing) .No traffic passing the Hotel resulting in a good nights sleep. Breakfast decision has to be made on what not to eat because there is such a selection and you have to watch the waistlline. Lovely old Church next to the Hotel which provides great character and place of Thanksgiving. There was a wedding on Saturday and I was able to experience a Spanish Wedding and the Style of Spanish Ladies and Lads. In short I had no complaints about the hotel.

My fifth stay at this hotel with my sister. As usual everything was perfect. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the staff help with anything required. Plenty of variety at breakfast and excellent food in the beach bar at lunch time. The hotel has a small beach which is managed very well with everyone that requires a sun bed getting one! The location is the best in Nerja with a mix of restaurants and bars both expensive and cheap. The resort is lively while not being noisy - it's pretty sleepy after midnight although there are some late bars for those that like to stay up! Overall it's great and we'll be there again twice next year!

This was our first visit to Spain ..we stayed at the Balcon de Europa as we had friends getting married there...a fabolous setting for the wedding ...the meal was set along the beach and was a wonderful night..#

as for the hotel...the staff were very friendly..
the room like many other guests was nothing to rave about but was clean and its only somewhere to lay the head at night...

the breakfast was very good with something for every taste bud..

the hotel is set in the prime part of |nerja and in the evening loacls and tourists come down to the square for a stroll..

However one warning and it must be heeded.
We decided to hire a car as there were 4 of us...to get from Malaga airport..we decided a taxi would be too expensive around 75-100 euro each way..we parked at the carpark adjacent to the hotel...there are no prices advertised unlike carparks in ireland and england...so you imagine we were not too happy when faced witha bill for 88 euro for parking the car from Sat -Wed morning...the car park is not affilated to the hotel so no conc essions....it would have been cheaper to get the taxi!!
public parking is very limited ...several guests had their cars towed by the police..

all in all we would go back ..but learnt from our mistakes....

If you are planning  a holiday in Nerja then the Balcon de Europa is the place to stay. The hotel commands the best position in town overlooking the sea but make sure you ask for a seaview room.

The hotel is well situated for access to Nerja's old town with its meandering streets full of shops and restaurants.

The town's church is just around the corner giving the bonus of being able to watch weddings on Saturday's and Sundays..great fun for the girls.

The hotel is clean and modern with excellent staff. Rooms are smart, air conditioned an have excellent sat Tv .

The hotel has its own beach complete with beachside restaurant and a nice roof top pool providing superb views.

Highly recommended.

We have just returned from our second stay at this hotel.  The breakfasts are still just about the best on the planet - but don't go half board!  The evening meals have deteriorated seriously in the last six months and we did not have one meal where we enjoyed both starter and main course, to say nothing of the dessert.  The staff however are delightful and sea-view rooms with balcony are first class.

Lots of great cafes (try the Little Flock if you are veggie like me), and restaurants. Would definately return to same hotel - superb location as everyone says! Helpful staff, Next time we would pay the extra and get a room with a sea view.

You could not have a better location in Nerja & even though it is in the heart of things there is no traffic noise. We had a room overlooking the sea on the 1st floor. The room was very spacious & kept clean. We were only B&B as we wanted to make the most of eating out in some of the wonderful Nerja restaurants but the breakfast was excellent with everything from cornflakes to smoked salmon with sparkling wine avaiable for good measure. Our two criticisms would be the very small swimming pool ( not near big enough for children to have fun) & the fact that despite having 9 floors the hotel only has one lift which seems to have a mind of its own!You almost gave up the will to live waiting for it !!
A restaurant tip for anyone going to Nerja. Try "La Luque" which is just round the corner from the hotel( walk up the left side of the church & you are there) It is absolutely first class & nowhere near as pricey as you would imagine. The garden terrace is magical & the staff so so efficient. Try it, you will not be disappointed.

Balcon de Europa is situated in the fantastic town of Nerja.

The hotel has the prime location in the town, as the name suggests.  It was clean and well run, but is probably getting a little dated.  The rooms were nothing to rave about.  The location however is fantastic, with the wonderful benefit of being able to leave your room and take a lift directly onto the beautiful beach at the base of the hotel.  That alone makes it a place worth visiting.

The Balcon de Europa, is adjacent to the hotel

The are a wide range of restaurants within easy walking distance and the Town of Nerja is attractive.

The hotel is well run and the staff are very helpful

We have now stayed at the hotel 6 times at varying times of the year and will return again.

An excellent hotel in terms of location, quality of service and food. ( Bed & Breakfast ).

The only real criticism is that it would benefit enormously from a better pool and pool terrace as it is a very small pool with no direct drinks & snacks facilities.

The location was outstanding and the hotel itself spotless!

Would recommend this hotel to any couple or family with teenage children.

Would stay again !!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Balcon De Europa. The location is absolutely superb, looking right onto the beach with the sea only 100 yards away. The hotel staff and waiters where all excellent, very helpful and friendly. The meals were very good, a buffet breakfast with a wide choice available and the evening meal had four choices of starter, main course and dessert, which varied every night. The hotel was kept spotlessly clean.
My only gripe was the charge of 9 euros per night to park the car in their underground car park
That aside, I would thoroughly recommend a stay at the Balcon

We love it here and have stayed here many times. Is great venue for Mum who uses a wheelchair. Easy access to Nerja centre, sea front and amenities. Food excellent. Rooms very nice. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Only one main lift but hotel fine with our using the service lift in respect of the chair.

Only down side for us was that our room bookings have been mixed up on last 2 visits. This meant that my husband and I ended up with an inferior room for part of the first booking and a pokey room on the 2nd (we book the sea view rooms). Hotel did best to put right on both occasions but start of holiday would have better without the hassle.

The hotel was well located in the most scenic spot in Nerja. It faced on to the famous 'Blacon de Europa' and backed on to a small, secluded beach. The hotel cleaned this beach daily and rented out sun longers. The staff were most helpful, the rooms clean and well maintained and there was only one negative aspect of the stay - namely the evening dinner. The breakfast offered a buffet of many items from which to choose, but the dinner was a waiter service of only a few options for starter, main and dessert - none of which, when they came, were particularly appealing or tasty. Otherwise it was a most enjoyable place to stay.

We loved our stay at this hotel! It overlooked the Mediterranean, and was decorated in cool gray and white marble throughout all the hallways and rooms. Our room was spacious, and the service was excellent. We had a great bellman, "Juan", who treated us like royalty. The breakfast each morning was wonderful, with foods to accomodate English travellers as well. The outdoor cafe had great food, with cool breezes and wonderful views of the Mediterranean. The only drawback for us was that the beds were a bit hard, and the air conditioning wasn't that efficient. We ended up buying a fan.......it helped tremendously!

If you arrive by car, the hotel car park is not the easiest to find. The best way is to park in the underground car park, cross the square to the hotel and let them sort it out. They do so very well. A porter will accompany you, show you where to re-park your car, and take your luggage to the hotel.

The hotel certainly isn't an architectural masterpiece but we don't think you could find a better location in Nerja. As the name implies, it is situated right on the Balcon, and, having walked around most of the town, thought it's sitation by far the best.

The room we had been allocated was not to our liking, so we paid extra for a suite. This had a balcony, with views of the sea and the Balcon. The staff were always friendly and helpful and breakfast was a well stocked buffet, including champagne if you wished.

If we return to Nerja we would undoubtedly stay here.

My husband and I have just returned (28/3/06)from visiting Nerja in Spain and stayed at the Balcon de Europa for 9 days.  The location was first class, good views, lots to see in Nerja especially the caves. Highly recommend if you stay that you book a room with a balcony/sea view.  Staff friendly, hotel very clean, the meals above average.  The meals are set meals and only buffet style meals on a Sunday.  However, the breakfast is buffet style and very good.  If we stayed again, we would definitely only book on a bed/breakfast basis as there are so many good places to eat out!  The weather was fantastic too, what more can you ask for?

On arrival we were greeted with friendly staff and given our room key.  I'd asked for the minibar to be emptied and signed to pay the 2euros per day for this service (I knew this from a previous review on this site).
Rooms were clean and have all facilities expected but only had one disappointment when I asked to use the iron and ironing board to be told that the hotel does not have one! (I decided to leave the travel iron at home assuming that the hotel would have one).
The hotel is ideally located in the very centre of town and as Nerja's restaurants and bars are almost split into two areas - balcon area and burriana beach area, you dont have very far to walk to either part.
the hotel has the best breakfast on offer Ive seen anywhere and the buffet includes cooked eggs, bacon, mushrooms, toms, beans, all cereals, breads and four different fruit juices, water and cava on ice!  Even chopped fruits and fresh fruit in a basket.
If you make the most of brekkie then you wont want to eat lunch til at least 2pm.
the reception at street level is actually floor 6 of the hotel and small swimming pool on the 5th.  the hotel is on the nice sandy beach which is 1st floor (deposit for towels charged to room and returned once you take towels back).
I would agree that the extra charge is worth it for a sea view room as we only paid for a standard double facing in towards a courtyard.  The most important thing is that if you are a couple and require a double bed then you must specifically request it when booking as we got stuck with twin beds even though the booking showed double/twin standard, no more double bedded rooms were available as the hotel was busy and we were told there are only 12 double beds in hotel.
To sum up the hotel was very nice and in my opinion it deserves its 4 star rating.
I would recommend a stay there and definatly book again through alpharooms who have a great easy to book website with the best prices!
I dont know if I should really recommend it too much as I'd like to keep it a secret so that its always available at the times I want to stay there!
You wouldnt be disappointed with this hotel.

The hotel has an ideal setting as soon as you find it the first time the singes are not very accurate, and as the other reviews say the hotel car parking is pointless as there is a free car park less than a 5min walk away, and it will save you 9 euros per night!.  the hotel is very clean and the staff are very freindly all speaking excellent english while still allowing you to demostrate your own spanish skills.  The beach area is private and very charming the small bar restaurant on the sea front serves some of the best gazpacho and paella that i have ever expreinced.  The rooms are are all very well equipt and the mini bar prices are the same as the main hotel bar (no silly prices).
