Annual Trip to Prague (with Alfie)

25 August 2008
We asked for the rooms to a fridge in each, but only one had. As this is the third year in a row we have stayed here, not much has changed. However, Prague is obviously gearing up for the Euro, as prices have gone up everywhere. It is worth staying here as it is still excellent value for a city centre hotel.

On arriving at Axa hotel with my husband we were checked into our room with no complications. Though the staff member was't the friendliest of people she was quite helpful. We had our room upgraded at no extra cost eventhough there was nothing wrong with the first room. The use of a good sized swimming pool was a bonus especially for the cost of our stay. We were central to all the sights so really had expected that the accomodation should have costed us more. We ate czech food and drank good beer returning to a clean and comfortable room. Would really have given full stars had there been coffee and tea facilities in the room. would certainly stay at the Axa hotel again.

On arriving at Axa hotel in a group of 14 males an a joint stag party we were quite surprised to be greated in such a nice way they had put on free drinks for us and checked us in quite quick the rooms were a lot better than we expected and the use of the pool was also big extra to us as you dont expect it at such a cheap over night cost the bedrooms are very large and clean we had a great stay with axa and the food was a good selection I would return even with my patner and would recomend it to everybody for a cheap and nice stay. The location was good for us just 5 minutes walk to all the pubs and 2 minutes from Mcdonalds, TGI Fridays and KFC.

Not Bad for the Money

24 November 2006
After reading other reviews on the Axa the group were a little worried as to what we would find. We found that the hotel was clean, central and offered a very good choice in breakfast, being served until 11 a.m. giving us chance to sort out the hangovers. The bar was open until 4 a.m.and drinks were very well priced. I would certainly recomend staying there again, you get what you pay for this was no five star but was excellent value for money.

The Axa is not plush but it is clean and very well situated. The rooms are a decent size and cleaned daily. The water was always hot.We have stayed twice at the Axa and it compares favourably with the two other hotels we have stayed in that are roughly the same price. The breakfast has a good selection and is available until 11 a.m. Take your travel kettle as there are no tea facilities in the room.BUT the Lila Labut department store almost opposite has a great supermarket in the basement where you can buy vodka and tonic.
We picked the Axa for it's location. It is on several tram routes and just a few mins walk to both Namesty Republiky and Florenc metro stations which are on two of the three metro lines. This makes getting around by public transport easy. We are a group of mature ladies who like to visit the opera and ballet. We could walk to the Estates Theatre and get a metro from Florenc to the Museum stop for The Statni Opera.

We found the location of the Axa just a little outside of the main attractions of Prague, we would, on looking back , have preferred to have booked a hotel nearer to the Old Town or just over Charles Bridge. The hotel looked like it could have done with a bit of a makeover, as the room was a touch tatty. The breakfast was ok, but it did the job of filling you up for part of the day. The best part of the hotel was the bar area, which is contemporary in design. The hotel has the potential to be a really great hotel due to the fact of it`s size, and with a makeover could be something. The hotel aside, Prague is a fantastic place to visit, with the artists on Charles bridge, the castle, and the astronomical clock in the Old town to name  just a few of the sights. We will be returning to the city as soon as we can.

Excellent hotel, very clean and spacious.  Very central and easy for walking to sights, and river. The hotel is on several tram routes, so access to attractions further afield not a problem.  The breakfast choice was huge, and varied, something for every-one, there was even bacon and eggs available to order.  The hotel even arranged for a packed breakfast, as we were leaving the hotel at 6am to go to an event. Some of the rooms had fridges, but not ours.  This would have been of great benefit to keep our bottled drinks cool for the following day.

The newly opened bar was pleasant and friendly. The barman and receptionists spoke good English, and were helpful in giving clear information.  Hire a safety deposit box for only 50Kc per day (approx £1.10).

Too many sites to see, but you must visit the Zizkov tower (TV Tower), just before sunset, and view Prague as it goes from dusk into night.  There is an excellent restaurant, and they will also phone you a taxi to take you back to the hotel.
A perfect base for your Prague holiday, we will be back.  (Group of 3 mature couples, and 9 singles)

I found the Axa hotel to be a pleasant, clean hotel with decent facilities. The location is excellent, just five minutes walk from Florenc station which links you with the main metro lines in central Prague. The swimming pool was an added bonus and i also took advantage of the massage service. The room i had was reasonably sized, although the air conditioning left alot to be desired, shower was good and daily cleaning service excellent. I found the breakfast limited in its appeal and the staff were not the most friendly, but overall this was a good 3 star hotel in an ideal location.

The axa hotel was very basic but clean. We booked a double room but it was two twins pushed together(maybe they are all like that). The rooms were a little cold and because it was may/june the heating was off and the staff would not put the heating on when asked. The shower is a cubicle and there isn't a bath but there was plenty of hot water.

Situated in a reasonably good location only 3 mins from subway and approx 5-10 mins from old town square walking distance.
The breakfast buffet was varied with a good choice of hot/cold food.
Would recommend this hotel to young people on a budget for a base, but not for older couples or couples who are looking for a bit of comfort.

The Axa is a 1930's 3*, centrally located hotel. It is approximately 15 minutes from the stunning Old Town Square, and a good location for the trams and metro that run around Prague. The hotel is a good 3*, with excellent breakfast, a friendly bar and drinks and snacks such as nuts available 24hours from a vending machine. The swimming pool complex is not free, but costs 1 crown per minute - you deposit 100crowns and they give you change if you spend less than an hour there. The swimming pool is art deco and worth a dip on a hot day. Bedrooms are comfortable with good ensuite facilities.
The strengths of this hotel are its location, excellent value for money and comfort. It isn't plush by modern standards, but it provides all that you need. At breakfast try the stuff that looks like ginger cake - it is light and spicy and goes well with a cappucino. Enjoy Prague it is a fabulous city. Take a boat trip at night, climb to the top of the Petrin tower and have a beer in the restaurant of the TV tower. Watch out for 'Derren Brown' style pickpockets and take comfortable walking shoes - you have been warned!

Brilliant location, good choice at breakfast, room was smaller than expected but fine once used to it. Defnitely value for money. Some of the reception staff were a bit rude but Prague was such an enjoyable place that they didn't ruin the experience. Would stay there again.

5 ladies and a hobbit!! (you had to be there!)

03 June 2006
The hotel AXA was perfect for what we wanted, clean, reasonable accommodation, quite centrally located, but not near any really noisy areas. The rooms were spotless, the towels could be changed every day if you wanted. Breakfast was ample, choices of toast, cereals, meat/cheeses, cakes etc, also a choice of hot food (eggs, frankfurters, tomatoes). There is a swimming pool (freezing!) and a well equipped fitness centre (if that floats your boat on holiday!) Old Town Square was 15-20 mins away, walking, about 8 trams stopped outside the hotel, taking you pretty much everywhere. All in all, the AXA was excellent value for the very reasonable rates. We, as a group of six 40 year olds were very happy with what we got!

Excellent choice of hotel. Easy walk into the old town. Clean, good breakfast. Only problem was that at this time of year it seems popular with school and college groups from Italy and elsewhere in Europe. The youngsters were OK but behaved like youngsters anywhere and we took to having a later breakfast to avoid the melee. But still an excellent choice for a three day break. Cedaz minibuses run from the airport dirctly to the Renaissance hotel round the corner every thirty minutes. Cost is only 90 crowns (just over two pounds)per person each way: a massive saving and as quick as a taxi.

excellent location for the price, nice rooms, easy walking distance to the town square. had a few minor problems - the windows didn't close properly, but the room did stay warm, the shower was luke warm if you didn't get in there before (or well after) the rest of the hotel, and the hotel reception gave us confusing information over the pool and sauna prices. the pool was taken over by a crowd of boisterous adolescents, which cut short our swim! rooms could have done with a hairdryer, especially as the weather was so cold, and a kettle, for the same reason. But I would recommend it, and would go again.

Having been to Prague before but not having been to Florenc I was concerned about the hotel and location.  We found it to be a very spacious, clean and friendly hotel and the metro stop is a 2 minute walk away.  An added bonus was the swimming pool facilities which included massages. I was shocked and delighted to find out the price of the massages so cheap.  I paid 370 krones for an hour long massage.  Be prepared to strip to your undies though!!  A very enjoyable stay at the Hotel Axa and the breakfast has a huge amount of different kinds of foods to suit everyones tastes.  I would stronly recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Prague.

This is an exellent hotel. We couldn't fault it. The rooms are spacious, clean and well furnished. The breakfast was exellent plenty to choose from. the service was good. It is situated on a street lined with shops leading down to the main shopping street for this area. If you ask for a taxi when you book from the airport and back you save 200 crowns. There are trams and busses but werenot there long enough to use them. We will be back to this hotel again

Centrally located in Prague, only a short walking distance from many of the city's attractions.  Excellent breakfast selection (hot and cold buffet).  The bedroom was large although it contained and average sized wardrobe, and there was a minimal choice of English channels on the TV (BBC News 24, CNN).

Only real detraction was the bedroom faced onto the street, where trams run throughout the night, so not conducive to a restful night's sleep.

I would however recommend the hotel.

The Hotel staff were friendly and helpfull.  The Hotel room was comfortable and warm.  The choice of food catered for our needs at breakfast.  Overall, good value for money.
We were really happy with the no smoking in the room policy but found that guests would congregate at the end of the corridor / top of the staircase.
A very enjoyable stay in Prague.

The Hotel Axa was ideally situated being approximately 8/10 minutes walk from the Old Town Square. Many trams pass the Hotel should you consider taking a ride.  The fares are very cheap and the one day ticket also covers the Metro.  Tickets can be obtained at the Tabac kiosk close to the Hotel.

The hotel was very comfortable and clean and the staff helpful.  There was also a wide variety of food for breakfast.  The restaurant had a good menu should you wish to have dinner.  There is also a lovely pool to tempt you.

We enjoyed out stay there and would certainly recommend it to anyone wanted a good hotel at a reasonable price, in a central position.

Prague is a wonderful city and well worth a visit or two!!
