October Weekend Stay

21 October 2008
This is our 5th stay in this hotel. The location is excellent, so central. This is only our 2nd time in a front facing room, but it had 2 sets of windows which really cut down on tram noise. They had also done up the bathroom and were putting in AC, so little improvements/investments going on which is good to see. I also noticed no smoking signs on many of the floors, so may be to do with the new no smoking rules in Holland. Gauchos steakhouse is great and Tio Pepe's mexican is good, handy to pop to when you do not want to venture far.

We stayed at the Avenue after reading previous reviews. The hotel is ideally situated 5 minutes walk from Central Station and Dam Square. Although near to the old part of the city, the area surrounding the hotel is fine, suitable for any age and children. You may need to keep an eye out down some of the side streets, but you do anywhere. We felt at ease at any time of day.

There are plenty or good, reasonably priced places to eat on the doorsstep. We had vouchers left in the room offering 10% of the menu at the Bellvue Brasserie a two minute walk away. The fixed price menu there was 19.50 euros (June 2006) for three courses and the food was excellent.

Breakfast at the Avenue is first class, plenty of good food and plenty of choice.

Couple of things to bear in mind, the none smoking rooms are all on the top (6th floor) easily reached by lift. The hotel is on a very busy tram route, I don't know if being on the top floor has anything to do with it, but the noise they make can be very intrusive and they run until after midnight.

The rooms are very clean, comfortable but have no tea or coffe making facilities.

All in all very good value, great location for sight seeing, we would stay again. PS Get am IAmsterdam card, 53.00 euros for three days, free travel on bus, tram and free admittance to all the main museums.

Stayed for the third consecutive time with my wife at the Avenue Hotel. It is a modern and clean hotel in the city center with spacious rooms for Amsterdam standards. Service is courteous and speedy, staff are helpful and competent. Great breakfast buffet from 07.00 to 10.00 am, 10.30 am on weekends. All in all value for money.

Very well located. Only 5 mins walk from Central Station. Staff very helpful. Breakfasts were enough to feed an army and my teenage sons thought this was wonderful and took full advantage.

The only negative points were that, as a family of non smokers, the rooms to begin with smelt quite strongly of smoke and there was an occasional drainy smell. The rooms were cleaned every day and bed linen, towels etc were immaculate.

For location the hotel was first class and there were lovely restaurants just across the road - the mexican one was very good.

I would certainly recommend this hotel to friends and stay there again when we visit the city again.

Excellent tourist hotel. This is our 2nd visit. Location is good, close to station and some good restaurants across the road (Mexican & steakhouse).
This visit was better as we had a room at the back so much quieter (rooms at the front get Tram noise).
Best buffet breakfast we have had in the standard of hotel in Amsterdam.
Our hotel of choice now, so long as the price is right!

The Avenue hotel was very clean, the staff extremely helful and the location could not have been better.  The rooms were a little on the small side but fine for a short city break.  My only complaint was that they did not replenish the breakfast buffet when certain food had run out therefore if you were later going for breakfast there was not a great choice left.  However this may of been because a group of Italians were making sandwiches, wrapping up cakes and biscuits and taking them with them, this was very unfair on the people left in the restaurant.

This hotel is certainly worth staying at and i would stay there again.

An excellent hotel for enjoying Amsterdam.  Close to the station and tram/bus stops, this hotel allows you to see all Amsterdam has to offer without any hassle.  The rooms were on the small side, but clean and welcoming.  Staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast buffet with cooked food! Would recommend this hotel to anyone.
