good clean hotel

26 May 2008
stayed 21/5/08 to 25/5/08 very clean hotel. staff spoke english and were very helpfull, rooms spacious easy access to main tourist areas must go on 2hour tour bus with free 1 hour boat trip excellent value for money about £12.00 and boat trip can be taken any time so save it for another day. if taking a taxi only use city taxis as the other companies can charge as much as 3 times the price. on the whole had a great stay.

A good stay

07 November 2007
Very good clean hotel with nice staff who spoke English. the room itself was spacious with 3 single beds, nice bathroom with powerful shower and TV. The only downside was the location, whilst not in a 'dodgy area' it was a 15-20 minute walk to the main area, i.e Chain bridge. There is a tram stop outside the hotel that takes you to the end of the road where you can change tram or use the metro, we walked everywhere!!!! If you are looking for somewhere clean to stay and don't mind using public transport or walking this is a good place to stay. Use City Taxi if you prefer cabs and there are a few of you.

Travelling made easy

02 June 2007
This was our first experience booking a holiday on the net and for us over 50s, this was really daunting. However, we got a return mini-bus from the airport which the hotel organized. They all spoke English which helped and we were pleasantly surprised by the size of the room and the quality of the facilities. It was not situated in the best area but very close to all forms of transport. We took 3 of our adult children and were able to book a triple room aswell as a double. The only thing that spoilt the stay was the incessant noise from the trams which kept us awake and of course for us oldies, sleep is a priority. Our kids were at the back of the hotel and slept like logs!

Really good hotel for the price of £23 a night (on this website)!  The room is big, the bed is comfy, the location is great (near Blaha Ljuza Ter and Keleti station is within walking distance).  There was no issue of cleanliness.  The only problem is it's towards a big road and you can hear trams and cars running on the street.  But hey, if you're staying for a couple of nights, this is surely to be recommended.

We stayed at the Atlas Hotel for 4 nights in February.  The hotel had recently been renovated and was very clean. Staff were helpful and friendly. The room allocated was large and very comfortable.  The bathroom consisted of a shower, toilet and wash basin, the room was cleaned every day.  In the room was a mini bar - payable and also a safe which incurred no charge.  The breakfast was adequate on a self-service basis. The only thing I may suggest is that coffee and tea making facilities in the room would have been a bonus and also a hairdryer.  The safe was in the wardrobe but not bolted down, may be it would be an idea to have the safe bolted to the shelf in the wardobe for peace of mind.  All in all we have a pleasant stay at the Atlas and the price was right.

Good budget hotel

Atlas Hotel Budapest
39 Népszínház utca - Budapest H-1081 - Hungary

We stayed at the Atlas Hotel for five nights last week.  We were a party of four ‘young’ over 60’s and had been a bit worried upon seeing the Atlas Hotel described as a hostel.  It was easy to get from the airport and cheaper to take a taxi than the shuttle bus because there were four of us.

On arrival we seemed to be in a seedy ‘downtown’ area with a few shops whose window dressing left a lot to be desired.

The check-in was quick and easy, the reception staff pleasant and helpful, particularly George, and spoke good English. We had booked over the internet and the hotel had taken the money out of the account before we arrived.

We were pleasantly surprised at the size of our rooms on the 7th floor which, although they had a skylight window, were very light and bright.  We didn’t mind not being able to see much out of the window as the view was nothing special.

It was a hot week and the air conditioning worked well.  It was very quiet but possibly this was because we were on the 7th floor and at the rear of the hotel in Rooms 716 and 717.

Although the rooms were basic they were spotlessly clean with a coffee table, two armchairs, TV, small fridge/mini bar and snacks.  Our beds were firm and comfortable and changed every other day, towels every day - we could not fault the cleanliness. You could bring in your own drinks but the bar prices were very cheap.  A large glass of wine was 300 forints [90p] and a bottle of excellent wine was 1,100 fl [just over £3].  There were a couple of shops selling wine and spirits, one virtually next door to the hotel and the other within a few minutes walking distance.

I had read reviews about the bathroom smells and, sure enough, there was a faint whiff of something not so pleasant but by the following morning it had disappeared and didn’t return.  The bathroom mirror was situated high on the wall so anyone under 5’6” would have a bit of a problem.  There was another mirror on the wardrobe though so that wasn’t a problem.

Breakfast was adequate – fruit juice, cereals, lovely fresh bread, various hams and cheeses, tomatoes, cucumber, scrambled egg, frankfurters and a choice of teas and coffee.

The location of the Atlas is good although not central.

We stayed at the Atlas Hotel in Budapest and found the location ideal as a starting point for exploring the city.  The metro station (M2) was only a tram stop away and the Westend City Centre was only a 10 minute tram ride (No.4 and No.6) which was very handy as it closes at 9pm. The hotel was clean and the Reception staff was helpful.  Breakfast was a buffet service with a small choice of cooked food as well as cereals, cold meat and yoghurt.  The room was clean and spacious.  Although the hotel is situated in a quiet area, it can be quite noisy if you are offered a room at the front as the tram (No.28 and No.37) passes right outside the hotel.  Overall, very good value for money.

Hotel in dark quiet area - but don't let this put you off - use trams which pass hotel late at night. If you turn left out of hotel and walk down street (1/2 mile) brings you to main streets. Hotel is very clean, staff very helpful and approachable.  Bar open late - drinks cheap. We had a very enjoyable stay, and would recommend it.  Good value for money.

The hotel was very clean and the staff welcoming and helpful.  the rooms were spacious and everything worked.  Our rooms were at the front of the hotel and the regular tram service was a bit noisy early morning and late at night.  The hotel was a magnet for stag parties and so the bar was always full and noisy but that may just have been the week were there.  The hotel was a way out from the main sights but the tram, bus and metro service were very efficient and regular.  Buy a three or seven day pass for the best value.  I would stay there again, but would ask for a room at the back.

As a budget hotel Atlas is good value for money. It is well served by public transport. The room was comfortable and clean and the reception staff were helpful and efficient. 2 minor criticisms: The room had air conditioning which unfortunately did not work and the lift did not always serve the 8th floor well. Otherwise a very enjoyable stay in a very interesting city.
