Arrecife Gran Hotel

12 July 2008
Booked for a mini-break and were very pleasantly surprised with the size of the room. Have stayed in 5* hotels before and never had a sitting room as well. On 14th floor and had brilliant views. The restaurant and bar on the top floor were really nice and again we were very pleasantly surprised at the prices. The staff in both were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely return.

We stayed there for my birthday a a special treat but i was not over impressed. the hotel its self was beautiful but very expensive for what you got. We asked for room service we didnt get. When we phoned back after an hour and a half they said the lady did not understand me and it was to late for the food we wanted now. (someone who spoke english should have called back.) Need friendler staff.

Hotel was very impressive, excellent rooms, very large double and really comfortable. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Great location as weather was not great, there was lots to see in the city. We booked full board option, to be disappointed that a full menu was not on offer in the dining room for lunch and dinner. This did limit our options and we then only availed of breakfast. Alpharooms were fantastic in sorting out a rebate.
Spa facilities were good and again staff at the spa were very pleasant, but with limited english.

Hotel well appointed, beautiful views, rooms were spacious suites, with separate louge comprising setee, 2 matching chairs, TV and minibar ( with free soft drinks ). Bedrooms spacious with another TV, and bathrooms, with twin sinks and separate WC/Bidet area were quite luxurious, with quality nik naks ( soaps, etc ).

Outdoor pool was well heated, and comfortable to swim in during the new year break.

Did not attend the new year gala celebrations ( 120 euros each ) mainly because it was mostly spanish guests, who were exceedingly formally dressed - slightly intimidating if you aren't formally dressed too!

Staff are very polite and helpful almost entirely ( you always get 1 or 2 that let the side down anywhere ) english though is not spoken by all staff ( but most )

We were bed and breakfast based - we dined in the 17th floor restaurant twice, excellent food, at very reasonable prices.

Room service was also excellent food, well priced and propmpt.
Brerakfast buffet was ample.

Gym equipment was outside under cover on the 2nd floor terrace area, and did not appeal, as it was a little shabby ) Did not use the spa  ( not our thing - and a little pricey )

Would we go again - definately

Down sides - city edge location - sometimes noisy ish ( not desperately ), also not very touristy, tourist shops / english culture is to be found 6 or 7 miles away in either direction, if you want to watch a british football match, etc.

Beach is excellent, but has no traditional tourst infrastructure ( sun beds etc, ) but I suspect that this is being developed soon into an up-market resort area.

An off-shore island in the bay 100 yds or so across a bridge form the hotel is being developed into a leisure facility, with what looks like bar / restaurant / sunbathing facilities, and certainly looks to be complete for the coming main season

There for one night as a special treat, had a junior suite and the views were magnificent. The staff were excellent and very attentive. The spa was a very reasonable £10 each and you could stay as long as you liked, which we did. Our meal in the 17th floor restaurant was tremendous, champagne on arrival followed by some superbly cooked food. I would recommend this hotel to all, you won't be disappointed.

As I scoured the internet a few weeks ago looking for suitable holiday accommodation I came across the Gran Hotel in Arrecife. This was to be my first trip ‘going it solo’ so it was particularly important for me to find a suitable place to stay. Key to my requirements - location, comfort and the facilities on offer within the hotel itself. The location was perfect for me, only four miles from the airport, in a city, with lots of shops and restaurants, yet right next to a glorious soft sandy beach. As a young woman walking around by myself I felt safe and untroubled. Though it is advisable to practice a little bit of Spanish before you go, as the locals don’t speak very much English. This was perfect for me and added to the sense of adventure, though thank goodness for my trusty Spanish phrase book! The hotel itself was fantastic, I stayed on the 11 floor and had the most amazing views over the sea, Arrecife and the beach. The standard room was more like a suite, having a separate lounge area, two televisions, a mini bar, big bathroom and two huge floor to ceiling windows, perfect for watching the world go by! The contemporary décor of the rooms and whole hotel really added to the ambiance. I particularly recommend the bar on the 17th floor of the hotel, for its wonderful views and luscious cocktails that were very reasonably priced!

As indicated by previous reviewers this hotel comfortably fits it´s 5-star rating. Staff are friendly with a professional attitude and did not scoff at my attempts at the Spanish language. We were accommodated on the 12th floor which had superlative views but would not suit a vertigo sufferer ! The room was well furnished and, whilst designated a double room, actually presented as a mini-suite. The bathroom and toilet area was a particularly well presented facet, I have seldom stayed in better. Whilst I understand the economics my singular criticism would be the lack of tea/coffee making facilities in the room. For a 5-star establishment I felt it was a little lacking in this regard, whilst I do acknowledge the fact that there was a mini-bar in the room. Overall though I would rate this hotel as one of the best I have ever stayed in.

Hotel in great place for Arrecife & with a car rest of Island is easily accessible. Room smartly furnished & disabled access very good in room & hotel but disabled shower flooded bathroom.
Spa facilities excellent & as a guest we got a 50% discount on price. Drink prices very reasonbale & offer of tea or coffee plus a cake for 3 Euros made our afternoon! The restaurant food is excellent & along with the view was supperb. I would recommend the half board package as you could have 3 courses from the a la carte menu & with 2 exceptions only everything was available to you; service also good.

Fantastic Hotel. I took my girlfriend here for her 18th Birthday and when we arrived we were upgraded to the suite, which was a really big room with livingroom and double bedroom(even had two tv's), with floor to ceiling glass views of the ocean harbour . Stayed between the 18th-25th of July 2005 and enjoyed every minute of it. The impression when you first walk into the hotel is 'wow'a massive lobby area made of marble and a great chandelier hanging from the ceiling, when we arrived there was also a pianist playing the piano for guests which we then discovered later plays in the piano bar every night. There is also a few nice shops in the hotel which sell clothes and jewellery but everything in them is kinda pricey as you can imagine. The hotel restaurant was outstanding, situated on the top floor of the hotel with its own private lift up to it with incredible views of the city with the floor to ceiling glass windows all around the restaurant, they delivered top class food at an affordable price, i think the total 3 course meal and 2 bottles of wine for both of us only came to just over 100 euros. Before i was departing for my holiday i was a bit concerned over how to go about travelling around the island but the main bus stops are just at the top of the beach promenade a 5 min walk away which takes you to all the main parts of the island where you can then get a bus to smaller parts you desire. Arrecife is not very commercialised and is more a of city where the locals live, but this is advantageous to the fact that the beach is usually quite empty and there is also not tacky shops all over the place, so it keeps it originality. Overall i would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to stay in a nice hotel in lanzarote.

This was definately the best 5 star hotel that I have stayed in. When we arrived, checked in, we got upgraded to a Junior Suite without additional charge and given a voucher for a free cocktail. Bar prices are excellent, bottle of wine with our fantastic dinner was only 9 euros. Views from restaurant are brilliant, service in all areas without fault, room was very big and roomy.  I will go back but stay longer than 1 night. Thank you Alpha Rooms

Having been a visitor to Lanzarote for the last 15 years i have seen the island change immensly in over this period. I was delighted to see the development of the Arrecife Gran hotel. It's location in the city is superb, ideal for shopping and site seeing alike. The roof top bar is absoloutly amazing and from here most of the island can be observed. Service is what you would expect from a 5 star hotel and the underground parking facility is great in a town where parking is difficult. We stayed on the 14th floor and the suit had all the facilities you needed but the view was it's best asset. With floor to ceiling glass it's not one for those with a touch of vertigo. Very romantic and special
