Not 4 star but good value
27 May 2008
We spent bank holiday weekend here. The hotel is ideally situated. We were given a corner room which looked to be larger than other rooms, but was not one of the renovated ones. the bathroom door was warped with mold and the walls in the room were slightly stained. Also we had 2 charming pillars in the room, but both had a lot of paint peeling off. However the room was clean and once all the rooms have been renovated will be a top notch hotel. We only paid £208 inc breakfast for 3 nights(which was very good by the way) which was comparably to 3 star hotels, so overall we were pleased with out stay. Do ask for extra pillows, the one flat one provided isnt enough, we asked for more and were given 2 lovely big ones!

Perfect for tourists
10 April 2008
We have just returned from a two night stay in Madrid and cannot recommend the Arosa enough. It is clean, central and ideal for those who don't spend alot of time in the hotel. The room we stayed in was shabby but elegant but we loved how spacious it was and the separate bathroom/toilet. There is a safe in the room which opens with a debit/credit card of your choice. An excellent idea and free (a novelty!). The breakfast was extensive and of an excellent quality. All staff were friendly and very helpful, once you tried to speak Spanish to them! I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough if like us, you visit Europe often, but on a budget. We are returning soon!

Arosa estupendo!
20 February 2008
We arrived at 2am after me leaving my handbag with passport, credit cards etc. The staff could not have been more helpfull, calming me down and assuring me I would be able to sort the passport out quite easily. It didn't come to that because in the morning the lovely lady at the desk called lost property and my bag had been handed in. This is our second visit to the very central, lovely clean hotel. Breakfast is a real treat especially because it is served up untill 11.30. at week-ends. Fantastic location, rooms and staff. What more could you ask? Oh yes. the price was very competative. Can't praise this place and people enough

the hotel was really central and was surrounded by shops and resturants. it was on a main road and was a little loud but not enough to wake us up. it was a short walk to all the museums and other tourist attractions. the room was ok - very clean but the decor was slightly loud (flowery wallpaper everywhere) and a brown bathroom suite. there was a bar that serviced a couple of snack dishes and the drink was reasonably priced. the staff were friendly and helpful and we would stay there again if we ever went back.

Great Hotel. Even better Location
21 August 2007
Just returned from a 3 day break in the Hotel Arosa, and couldn't find any fault at all. The rooms are spotlessly clean, most rooms are now newly refurbished. Through this website I put in a special request for an upper floor in a refurbished room. When I arrived I wasn't dispointed, all request were granted, they did ask me to confirm I still wanted a double bed. Well when I got to the room I think it must be a queen bed or something - it was massive!!
The bathroom is a good size with the usual little toiletries present, the shower in the bathroom was amazing - really nice pressure. TV show 3 english news channels which is OK, esp if like me you didn't spend too much time in your room.
The room had safe that worked by using your credit card, which was handing as alot of hotels charge extra to use this.
Breakfast at the hotel was included in my rate, and it really was great, it set you up for the day so you didn't need to eat till later. Continental, hot english type breakfast, cereals, yogurts, hot and cold beverages were all provided. If its not in your rate then it cost 13 euros.
Hotel staff were quite muted, basically if I had any queires they answered them but thier was not much friendlyness, but thats ok, your not gonna spend the weekend with them. Bell boys were more friendly!!
I would definetly recommend this Hotel, its in a great location just off the Gran Via, near all the sights and shops. Modern shops like Hennes, Zara, Sphera are literally across the road, the main tourist centre is 3 mins away. Everything is in walking distance hear. Another bonus is the Madrid Vision sightseeing Tour bus is located across the road as well.

Arosa Madrid May 2007
16 May 2007
I would definitely recommend this hotel to prospective visitors if only for its excellent location, just off the Gran Via and close to the Gran Via metro station. It is only a short walk to the beautiful squares - Puerta del Sol, Plaza Sants Ana and Plaza Mayor. In and around any of these spots is a plethora of wonderful tabernas, tapas bars and restaurants.
The room we had was fairly spacious, overlooked Calle Salud and was very quiet at night.
It was clean and airy with spotless bed linen and responsive air conditioning. The bathroom (with separate w.c. and bidet area) was bright and clean.
The carpet was a bit threadbare in places but this did not detract from the overall standard of comfort.
Breakfast was generous, with a good choice available and the hotel staff were cheerful and friendly.
I would not hesitate to stay there again.

Review of 'Arosa'
16 April 2007
Hotel is very good location. Rooms could do with an update. Wallpaper and curtins have seen better days. Hall and stairs could do with new carpet and a lick of paint. I would not rate this hotel as a 4 star, maybe a 3.
On the plus side staff are nice, hotel very clean. Doorman on the hotel door at all time, so you felt very safe.Safe in room. Breakfaast is ok, not a great variety.
Madrid itself is fab and well worth a visit. Metro is great and very cheap only 6.40euros for a 10 jorney ticket. No problem getting in from the Airport.
Also take note going to Madrid is not like going to a holiday resort the people do not speak English so in shops and restruants bring your phase book.

The Arosa is in a great location close to the Gran Via and very close to the shops!! The hotel decor is a bit old fashioned and maybe in need of a lick of paint in the rooms but no complaints about the cleanliness and location of the hotel. Breakfast was very good and served up until 11am which is ideal if you've had a late night. We took the metro from the airport and would recommend this as it is really cheap and quick (6 euros 40 gets you 10 journeys on the metro). The tour bus is worth doing (15 euros 30 for an adult for 1 day) and the tour of Santiago Bernabau is really good (if you're into football or stadiums!) and great value at 10 euros per person.
Would recommend the Arosa to anyone looking for good value accommodation right in the heart of Madrid.

Great hotel, perfect location . This is our second visit to Madrid this hotel was better situated. Hotel clean , breakfast good rooms fine. Very convenient for metro when arriving from airport . I was targeted on metro so be warned DO NOT wear a bag over your shoulder , luckily they didn't get anything . Don't be put off using metro though it was my fault. Chueca is our favourite area in Madrid we walked there in minutes. Would return to Madrid and to this hotel .

Booked the Arosa after hearing good feedback from others. Our room was a good size, very clean and the decor was attractive. Although other rooms require some renovating. The hotel offered a good breakfast buffet (even for vegetarians!) and the best part - it was available till 11am! Overall a good hotel at a good price in the heart of the city.

Hotel Arosa is really well siuated in the centre of Madrid on Gran Via. It doesn't offer any facilites except breakfast but that was pleasant and plentiful and in the continental style. The staff only spoke a little english, but were helpful when we had a couple of problems with the room and these were dealt with quickly. The hotel seemed to have had a recent facelift and was very clean. There always seemed plenty of staff on duty. Arosa's location made it really good though, right in the hub of things with plenty of shops and restaurants right outside. Even the Metro and bus stops were right there!

Review of 'Arosa'
20 February 2007
The Arosa is right in the heart of Grand Via - on the doorstep of shops, cinemas, theatres and within good walking distance of many major attractions. You can jump on the Madrid Tour bus just across the street at the bus stop. For 15 euro you can follow two tour routes around the city (old & new) the tour buses can get quite busy in the middle of the day so if you can get out and about early it will mean less jostling to get a good seat on the bus. You can jump off at any stop to spend some time looking round and then jump back on the next available bus. We took a taxi from Barajas airport which cost 30 euro but if you take the time to study the metro map before you go you can get from the airport to the hotel (Grand Via Metro stop - 35 mins) with two very easy train changes for 1 euro each!(And a lot more quickly as the Madrid traffic can get very conjested at times) The Hotel reception is on the second floor of the building so that when you arrive you are confronted with two lifts (the one on the left is very small). The decor is a little on the dated side but somehow suits Madrid. Our room faced onto Grand Via which can be very busy at times - this did not in the slightest affect our ability to get over to sleep. The rooms are clean with easy temperature controls and the staff are very helpful. The breakfast buffet is typical continental buffet and available until 11.00 am. The Arosa lived up to our expectations and suited our plan for the weekend. A reasonably priced 3 star hotel right in the heart of Madrid.

Location A1 - very central ! Food A+ - fantastic full breakfast - or continental - the choice is yours !! Hotel staff 10 out of 10 - couldnt do enough for you
Just watch the taxi charge from the airport to the hotel, rip off or what - get the shuttle service from the hotel, 11 euros per person if you ring as soon as you land at the airport it takes approx 20 mins to airport, just in time for the cases to clear and you will save approx 20 + euros

Very central location, close by to bars and restaurants and shops. Walls were a bit thin and could hear a lot of noise, so wouldn't like to be there when too busy. Breakfast was enjoyable and had proper fresh orange juice. Would definitely recommend to anyone, even if only for the location.

Had pre-booked advising that we had a baby with us but no cot was available. However staff were friendly and accomodating and provided us with a room with a sofa bed to put our baby in and provided a kettle on request for making up milk.
Breakfast great
Room tired looking and in desperate need of refurb and view over air con system or generator.

We have stayed in the Arosa before, some 5 years ago and we were so pleased with the hotel then that we decided to stay this time. We were not disappointed. The room we had faced the Grand Via and had a spectacular view of the buildings etc. The hotel is centrally situated and reception will book guided tours should you wish to go further afield. We chose to go to Toledo which was spectacular and the guide was very knowledgeable. We will chose the Arosa when we visit Madrid again.

Brilliant location for exploring Madrid! Everything on the doorstep - metro, bus etc. Room was not great but very helpful hotel staff soon had us moved to a better one. The small lift has to be seen to be believed :o) No kettle provided but only had to ask at reception and one was brought up. Breakfast choices were very good and it was all very good value for money when booked through Alpharooms. Used the hotel shuttle bus to get to and from the airport - great service.

Review of 'AROSA'

This hotel may be technically 4 Star, but is in fact one big disappointment. Located in the heart of Madrid (which is its' best feature) it is as joyless and soulless as they come. The experience starts when using the two claustrophobic ricketty elevators, which always stop at the 2nd floor, where the reception is located. The rooms are small and spartan, many of them with depressing views into an inner courtyard. The TV, although allegedly cabled, offers only blurred pictures of CNN or BBC World. Although the bathrooms have been modernized, they forgot shelf space for toiletries! There is an airport shuttle, but you have to book the outgoing trip 24 hours in advance, which nobody bothered to tell or write down (language being no problem as I'm fluent in Spanish).
