Just returned from a weeks stay at the onabrava. This is a great hotel. The food is excellent with plenty of choice. The rooms were really big. 2 double beds with a sea view. And the staff were really friendly and couldnt do enough for you. Not bad entertainment and plenty of things for the kids with a park near by. The resort of santa susanna is lovely however the beach is very coarse ,ok if you can lay there on a sunbed but we had a 2 year old with us. so not so great but the pool in the hotel compensated for that. with a train station across the road this gives you easy acces to barcelona within the hr. and theres a little train that takes you to other resorts. tossa de mar definatly worth taking a trip to see. we would definatly return to this hotel and reccomend this to anybody. its so easy to book through alpharooms and this hotel gives you excellent value for the money!

Having a small hotel ourselves in France, we took a short break to onabrava, what a fantasic stay, the staff were superb, polite, freindly and very professional, the hotel its self is a of great design with views of the mountains and sea from the balcony, the buffet food works really well and of a high quality, having the steam room and inside pool made it all the more special, we will be recommending this hotel to our many Guests who travel through france on there way to spain, We will definitely go back.

I would recomend this hotel to anyone, the price was very reasonable for a 4 star hotel
the staff were very friendly and courteous
the buffet breakfast and dinner was excellent and always had varied choice and they try to cater for all tastes
the rooms were spotless and the bathroom was modern and clean
the train station was opposite the hotel and it took approx 1 hour into barcelona for the cost of 6 euros return or you can buy a T10 card for about 28 euros and get 10 journeys so ideal for a family. the ease of the public transport around the area was amazing i would definatley use this hotel again

Reception and bar area were spotlessly clean, staff were friendly and bar prices were very reasonable. There is games room, internet acccess and entertainment at nights.
Room had a sea view, maid came daily, sheets were changed on third day, very clean. Room has air conditioning and heating.
There was a good choice of food every day.
Resort is small and we went out of season so most shops were closed.
Would definetly stay at this hotel again, it was the nicest I've been to.

The hotel is excellent, with a very impressive marbled entrance. The rooms are cleaned daily to a high standard. The range of food on offer was amazing, & it was difficult not to eat too much. The location of the hotel is also good, with the rail station so close (yet not a nuisance noisewise), the beach a few minutes' walk away, & the access roads into/out of Santa Susanna easily accessable. We hired a car (from the UK) & there are plenty of great places to visit within reasonable distance, such as Banyole Lake, Besalu, Camprodon, Setcases, L'Empdora Marshes National Parc, etc. On the negative side, the entertainment didn't start until 10.00pm, by which time we were too tired from walking to stay up!

when we arrived at 12.30 am, the night porter told us he had no booking for us - we shi owed him our alpharooms voucher but still he maintanted that hotel onabrava wasnt expecting us. I advised him that we had travelled a long way and it was late and that he must sort something out for us - he relulctantly let us stay in a ground floor room overnight. Next morning we were moved (on foot) to the Aquamarina for one night then moved back(on foot again)to the Onabrava. The duty manager offered us full board (which wasnt much use to us as we were on trips most days and sent a bottle of cheap sparkly stuff to our room. All in all not the best start to our holiday, Indeed quite distressing for my wife and kids - not to mention the ear ache I had to endure from my wife (as obviously anything that goes wrong is obviously my fault)

My husband and I was extremely pleased with the hotel. Fantastic hotel - Clean and everything that a four star hotel should be. We arrived very late but received a warm welcome and assistance. The room was very nicely presented. A fridge and safe are made available, you pay locally for that. At meal time there is a varied menu to suit all tastes and is extremely good. The restaurant staff were very good and were very quick with cleaning tables, bringing you drinks etc.
The hotel is ideally situated for the railway just across the road. From here we visited Lloret, Blanes, Calella, Tossa de Mar and Girona. It is very straight forward after the first time. The train is very fast, efficient and cheap.
I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Excellent hotel. Situated in a quiet area of Santa Susanna close to the train station with Barcelona only 1 hour away. Accommodation was comfortable & clean with 2 double beds in each room. Food was very good, buffet style, eat what you want. Mainly Spanish and French staying here as only 1 UK tour operator comes to this hotel. We hired a car and would recommend it as there was not much to do in the ommediate area. So, if you are looking for a well operated, comfortable hotel and like to be away from the crowds, this is for you!!

Second visit to the hotel and we enjoyed it just as much as the first. Hotel is spotlessly clean and staff very helpful with everything. It is an excellent place for the kids and last June there was a great children's club around the pool although this wasn't running in April (which to be honest we didn't expect out of season).
I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a cheap holiday with 4 star standards. There is plenty to keep you occupied in the hotel including evening entertainment which is suitable for all ages, but if you want to adventure further the train station is right outside the hotel (no noise to keep you awake though).
We wouldn't hesitate to book another holiday in this hotel next year if not earlier!!

ONA BRAVO!!! Booked great deal through Alpha Room. What can i say. What a fantastic hotel. The first impression when walk in the doors,is great. Its all marble floor and plenty of comfy seats to chill out with a drink. The hotel is immaculate, with not a spot of dirt anywhere. The staff friendly, rooms good, food great. Nothing to complain about at all. We arrived Thurs eve and the hotel seemed deserted. But by weekend it was heaving withall kinds of nationalities and gave the hotel a good atmosphere. We were B&B. The breakfast was fantastic. Even champagne and bucks fizz was included. I am a travel agent and am totally happy with our choice and would recommend anyone,of any age, to go here. We went with my girlfriends mum and Dad. They were 100% impressed. BROWNY POINTS FOR ME!

Review of 'AQUA ONABRAVA'
02 January 2006
Our holiday was booked through Festive Getaways and we chose the Onabrava due to its location and the fact it was a four star hotel.
Santa Susanna is a resort on the Costa Brava, about an hour from Barcelona. The hotel is about 5 minutes away from a beautiful sandy beach. From the minute we arrived we knew we had made the right choice. The hotel check in was fast and efficient and the staff well organised and pleasant. The hotel was spotless and the rooms spacious and well equipped. You are advised to pay for a safety deposit box as the management will not take responsibility for personal possessions and money left in your room.
The hotel has a good sized outdoor swimming pool but also benefits from a games room, indoor pool, gym, sauna and night time entertainment. On the down side the gym and indoor pool are charged for at the rate of 6 euros a day.
Where the hotel really excels is with its cuisine. Our holiday was a Christmas Festive break and the Christmas dinner was excellent and skilfully presented. Generally meals take the form of a buffet service but the choice and scale of the food offered was truly amazing. All drinks ( and that includes water ) must be paid for separately at main dinner times but this seems to be standard practice in most hotels in Spain.
Bar prices and the prices of the vending machines in the hotel are in line with those locally. In many cases the hotel was actually cheaper. The tours which were not organised by the hotel, were expensive for what was on offer. The most popular tourist destinations nearby are Barcelona, Mountserrat and Girona although the nearby seaside resort of Blanes is certainly worth a visit.
The train service is excellent and very close to the hotel. A return trip to Barcelona is only 7 euros. Public transport in Spain is cheap, clean and efficient.
This is a very good hotel and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

15th November 2005 Have just returned from a 5 day short winter break staying at the Aqua Onabrava Hotel in Santa Susana. we have stopped in many 4* Star hotels and been disappointed but this certainly was not the case at this lovely hotel .From the moment we arrived we found the staff very helpful and courteous. The hotel is a very spacious and airy building with super amenities ,especially the indoor spa, pool and gymnasium at this time of the year. The bedroom again was very spacious with 2 queen size beds and a nice sea view with balcony. We were on a half board package deal and the food was on a buffet style at breakfast and dinner and was one of the best we have ever had .... there was even "Bucks Fizz" on offer at breakfast time and I would confidently say that there was choice for every taste ... myself being a diabetic was very impressed when I found no sugar desserts available every night . All in all we found this to be a very up class 4* star spacious, clinically clean and courteous hotel and will definitely stay there again .

Excellent Hotel in a clean newly developed area, which has plenty of space and not too tacky. The Hotel was clean, fresh and the food was excellent. The staff were friendly and accomodating. The train and bus connections literally across the road, great location for easy travel. The pool was large with plenty of area. The indoor pool and spa were great, drawback you had to pay extra. There was a kids club operating, although near end of season. THe only thing which would make it one of the best in area would have been drink making facilities in your room.

Just returned from 1 wk hb.First time I have booked accomadation and flight seperately, flights £38 each prestwick to girona, taxi for 4 50euros into santa suzanna, but if tour buses are quite they can be persuaded to add a few extra with a back hander ,it cost us 10 euros each ,so well worth asking about, also barcelona bus, girona airport to barcelona stops at blanes, malgrat, santa suzanne, lloret, tossa, pineda, and callela at 8 euro`s each.handy to know as I did worry about transfers, but no hassle ,train also directly outside of hotel which can be picked up from girona town.Hotel itself was fabulous, food great ,reasonable price for drinks, only down side was entertainment in hotel which at times was so bad our sides where splitting with laughter.Great base to explore costa brava due to cheap train fares and very efficient ,put britain to shame.Unfortunetely didn`t due much as unable to drag kids from pool, but with temperatures reaching 34 degrees was happy to bake in sun. Will most definetly return to hotel, fab value for money whole holiday only cost £500,ps book flights early,go ahead book it you know you want to!

Review of 'AQUA ONABRAVA'
10 October 2005
For the price we paid (and even if we would have paid double this) we had an absolute bargain. The hotel is 4* and is a beautiful hotel. Plenty of car parking to the rear of the hotel should you have hired a car. The reception area is beautifully clean and welcoming and a good indicator of the standard of cleanliness in the hotel as a whole. There are lifts to all floors but only one side of the hotel has a lift which goes downstairs to the dining room which is something you may wish to consider if you are a traveller with mobility problems. The bed rooms are large. We had two double beds in our room, a safe, plenty of storage space, an en-suite bathroom, phone, TV and balcony. This was cleaned every day. Sheets are not changed during course of stay. We stayed on a half board basis. Breakfast and dinner were on a buffet style. There was plenty of choice. Quality of food was high. One criticism was that it was quite anglicised. Not much Spanish food. Wine selection was also good. Price of drinks both in the restaurant and bar was reasonable. Don't be late for meals because food is taken away as soon as deadline is reached! Nightly entertainment was provided. The hotel is keen on quiet after 12 p.m. and this was welcomed. Swimming pool was spotless but cold for October. Plenty of sunloungers and a nice poolside bar which served meals, snacks and drinks, again at reasonable prices. The hotel is located in the middle of Santa Susanna. The trainstation which takes you to Barcelona is almost immediately across the road from the hotel. Cost EUROS £5.70 return and goes frequently. Takes just on 75 minutes. Noise from the tain is minimal. Weekly market on a Tuesday and is v.near to hotel. Free mini-train to local Waterworld travels past the hotel. All in all this was a good place to stay for us - couldn't fault it for the money paid. We hired a car and went to Girona (old town), Barcelona (on train), Montserrat and Figueres. The hotel was a good base. The staff could not do enough for us. We asked for extras in the room and these were supplied v. quickly.

Great hotel, good for families. Stay there for your family holiday.
The food very good, staff generally very good, rooms good size (well worth upgrading to superior though, esp with kids as you get two bedrooms). Very good large pool, sep kids pool. Entertainment okay (when it was bad it was hilarious - eurotrash eat your heart out). Kids entertainment great and free. Can leave them to enjoy themselves whilst you have a few beers by the pool..
Info in room a bit sparse - you need to pay small supplement for fridge without minibar (well worth it) and for safe but they don't tell you this in advance.
Beach not very good. Construction site sand and steep with strong undertow so to be avoided with kids.
Great easy access to Barcelona direct from trains opposite hotel was brill - 5.70 euro return. well recommended. Take train to Place d'Catalunya and get Bus Turistic for tours. Nightlife nearby not sampled but seemed pretty low level.
To sum up, if you have kids not yet teenagers a great place, tots too. Best place we have stayed with the kids and may well go again.
If you are a nightowl or a beach person not recommended.

Just got back from a 5 night break with my Sister from Santa Susanna. We had such a perfect holiday, helped by the hotel Onabrava. The hotel was so clean, spacious and extremely good value for money. Staff were very freindly, nice and accommodating. We were slightly wary of staying half board as you hear so many stories of "buffet" type dinners in hotels, that we weren't even going to try the food. The first night we were very tired after travelling that we did eat there and it was fantastic. They had an absolute choice for everyone, even diabetics! We ate there every night after that. You couldn't get a cleaner and nicer hotel in the area and so close to the beach and railway line if want to venture out. We didn't!! Stayed by the pool and listened to the entertainment. I would highly recommend it and I would definitely stay there again.

Review of 'AQUA ONABRAVA'
14 August 2005
This hotel was recommended to us by my brother and his girlfriend. We have just returned from having spent a very enjoyable week there with our 18-month-old daughter (August 2005). It offers excellent accommodation, ideal for families with young children, in a very clean and attractive resort, just an hour's train ride from the colour and vitality of Barcelona (catch the train from just across the road!). We had a lovely room with side sea-view, but were concerned about the safety of the balcony with regard to our little girl. The hotel staff were great and arranged for a mesh safety barrier to be fitted, which we found really reassuring. We therefore declined the offer of a room-change. The hotel offers excellent facilities and service, and the food (buffet-service) is superb in terms of both quality and choice (we went half-board). We only had a few gripes: the hotel was full and it was crowded around the pool. They needed to enforce their own rules about no ball games in the pool (it made swimming difficult and I was hit in the face on one occasion) and not reserving sun-beds as there weren't enough and we only managed to get one once. The incessant loud music got a bit much at times too. The entertainment team works hard to keep everyone happy, though, and our little girl loved the children's pool. Facilities in our room were very good (we had 2 double beds and a cot!) and we thought the mini bar was very good value for a mixture of beers and soft drinks. The only thing lacking was tea/coffee making facilities in the room which would have been a welcome addition. Overall, though, a great hotel and a great price, and we'd definitely recommend it.

Lovely clean hotel. Undoubtedly the best in the area. Food was fantastic - too good! We had a large plate of starter, same for dinner, and same again for pudding in order to try out the variety on offer. No rowdyness and no noise! able to get a good night's sleep. Located in a peaceful area, it's absolutely ideal for families with small children as there are no nightclubs/drunk/kebabs/glass etc and no problems with pushchairs, wheelchairs etc as it is all very flat surfaced. The pool was nice and large, and the aqua aerobics was a hoot! (and led by a very nice, good looking entertainment rep!). There was a nice feel about the place. There in a large relaxing lounge inside where you can have a nice cool drink and overlook the pool. There was a great games room for the kids including a couple of pool tables, electronic games etc and a magnet for the kids to make friends. There is no doubt that the Aqua Hotel Onabrava is an excellent base for young and old, and the resort is lovely and clean. The train station is opposite and the train is clean, cheap and a must to visit all the coastal towns e.g Lloret, Tossa, Blanes or even Barcelona for just a few euros. A stroll down the road gets you to Malgrat. We personally disliked Malgrat, but it's great for those who like Blackpool feel/kebabs/tacky shops and "british" pubs. You won't need to move (you wont be able to with the food on offer!) from the hotel anyway! Enjoy your holiday - we did!

Impressive entry to the hotel, the lobby looks good. However, check-in was not good, surly receptionist and no information given at all. Room was clean, and in good repair apart from ring marks on the sink surround. The air conditioning unit was not terribly efficient. Service from almost all the staff was mediocre. Apart from one young lady in the restaurant, who was always smiling and pleasant, the remainder of the staff were "doing their job". Food, I have read that the food was excellent. In my opinion, it is fair. I failed to have a hot meal in the twelve nights I stayed, even dishes freshly brought from the kitchen were warm at best. Most dishes, especially those prepared on the grill were overcooked. For instance squid 3 times, I tried it every time, and every time it was like rubber. A good clean hotel, but would suggest it is of 3* rather than 4. I would suggest though, if you can get a good price, then it is as good as most in the area.
