Corona Roja

13 August 2008
I stayed at the Roja for a week in July 08... was 8 of us boys and had 2 rooms to share, rooms were more than big enough, very clean and although there wernt any air con, if u leave the balcony door open it doesnt get hot atall (it was safe enough to leave the door open when we was out too cos we was on the 8th floor!) i didnt see one, NOT ONE ant, cockroach or bug of any kind during the holiday! not in our room and not even round the pool! we was aloud to blast music out of our rooms at any time, day, night, early hours when we got home from clubbin... its the perfect hotel for us 18-30s groups. the one shit thing about the hotel was the food, but 'nellys' is literally nex door and 'cheers' down the road do well nice food! were going back in sept 08 and staying in the roja again simply cos its perfect for us! loved it, made the holiday that much more enjoyable!

Stayed at these apartments for 2 weeks in October 05. There where 5 of us, we had two rooms with 2 single beds and a bed in the lounge. They where cleaned everyday (not too early about 10.30 was the earliest). The staff where helpfull in reception. Only ate once in the restuarant (breakfast) it was OK but you could eat out for better value. One thing i was really pleased about (after reading a review) was i only saw 2 Cockroaches around the pool area. It has already been mentioned before but the lifts where still a pain, only 3 for the whole apartment and again one was out of order for the best part of 2 week, so when one came it was full, the stairs where lit ok, when you turned on the light switch at ever floor.
For a cheap apartment i would recommend this place to my best friend.

The apparment we booked separately from the tour operator - and found it very cheap for 2 weeks in the mid of august.  We booked a double bedroom aparentment, and we found this very adequate.  The room was very clean, comfortable and the balcony was big and had a great view.  It had everything that we required.  Cleaners were unbelieveable - cleaned our room every day, changed bedding every other day, and very polite.  Corridors were clean and lit properly at night.  The motorway was not as noisey as other people made out on their reviews.  The food was nice, but didnt have any of the buffet breakfast - didnt look nice, but the menu breakfast was ok.  the pool was nice, and there were enough sun lounges for everyone.  The only downside to this appartment, was the lifts.  one was not working at all (but they were mending it the best they could).  and the other 2 were slow.
the beach and a few shops were only 5 mins walk away, and the centre was a short walk, but you could get a taxi for a euro.  I would definitely recommend this to friends.

I FOUND MY STAY HERE TO BE VERY REMEMBERABLE.  MOST OF THE STAFF WERE VERY HELPFUL AND VERY FRIENDLY, ALL EXCEPT THE CLEANING STAFF.  THEY CAME ROUND FAR TO EARLY IN THE DAY, AND THEY WEREN'T VERY NICE.  MY ROOM WAS LOCATED AT THE SIDE OF WHERE THE MOUNTAINS WERE AND THE VIEW WAS AMAZING AT NITE,  WHEN WE WERE SITTING ON THE BALCONY DRINKING.  THE NITECLUBS WERE JUST A STONE THROW AWAY,  AS WELL AS THE SHOPS.  THE BEACH WAS JUST A 10 MIN WALK AWAY.  THE ONLY DOWNSIDE WAS THE ROOMS I THOUGHT WERE VERY SMALL,AND WE DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO USE THE COOKER.

Review of 'APARTCORONA ROJA'

We visited the Corona Roja in a group of 19. We booked our holidays with 18 -30. We styed during August 2004

The accommodation is basic no air conditioning in any of the 5 rooms we had, we all had to invest in fans. The kitchen and living area in the rooms that sleep 2 are almost non existent. We were on the fifth floor right at the end of the long poorly lit corridor. Our room was adjacent to a dark fire escape which was pretty creepy. The indoor pool is a brilliant way to chill out. The outdoor pool was a little disappointing there was always bits of litter left in the pool. The overall cleanliness was quite good, the maids visited daily perhaps a bit too early considering the vast majority in the hotel were partying into the early hours of the morning. Tennis courts are available to play sports on and are of a decent standard. They have a bird sanctuary there, harbouring all of 3 birds, just let them go! There are also plenty of cockroaches round the pool area so don't leave food lying about. There is a small bar downstairs with quite a large selection of drinks, the only problem is that it shuts at 10 and the spirits are all warm. Yuk! Thier is no entertainment provided at all. However the hotel is only a few minuites walk from the lively centre and taxis cost about 2 euros max to get you there. In our opinion the point is the best bar in Gran Canaria it became our local we would always start the night off here and end it here - most other places shut at around 2am, whilst the point goes on till eight in the morning. We went on all the eighteen to thirty excursions and we believe it is a rip off. If you want to go paintballing and jet skiing etc do it through private companies they will offer you the best prices. Our rep, however, Johnny Hormone was a legend and made the holiday much more enjoyable.
The only major problem we had during our two week stay is that a room was broken into by a local - he overpowered three girls and stole some of thier posessions. We have yet to this day heard anything further from this event despite the police knowing the individual.

The room was clean, comfortable, basic, but, for the money paid, very good value.

Unlike many other hotels abroad we never ran out of hot water.
The Beach is a short walk away, The Kasbar (Shops restaurants and straight bars) is about 2 Euros in a taxi and Yumbo centre (shops Restaurants and gay bars)3 Euros(June 2005) or is in walking distance.

I would just point out that The Corona Roja is right by a very busy road so traffic noise can be a problem for light sleepers or those who party all night and like to sleep until late morning.

If your not expecting luxury but good basic no frills accommodation this is the place for you.

Review of 'APARTCORONA ROJA'

I had read a few reviews on other websites about the Corona Roja, before I stayed there which pointed out a few negatives. But all in all the accommodation was clean, a fair size with sea views and the staff were all friendly and helpful.
We stayed in a 2 twinned bedroom apartment, which also had a sofa bed and a chair bed, so at a push would sleep 7 people. All the upper apartments which have a balcany face to the front of the building and so have a great sea view. The television is a pay-per-view, 50c for half hour.br />One negative review that I had read was that the lifts took forever to come, but I found myself waiting for longer than a few minutes. The taxis in playa del ingles are so cheap, usually 3euro around the town, with one usually waiting outside the front door of the apartments.
However, one negative I did find with the Corona Roja is that there is a busy main road behind the complex with the motorway set just back again, which can get a bit noisy at peak traffic.
We had a great holiday and the accommadation played as a great base for our stay, would defo recomend staying there.
