The Pitts

My two friends and I booked a three day break at the Ameritania - true it is very central, great for moving around New York easy access to Times Square and Central Park. The hotel was the pitts - the public areas were tatty - very worn carpets and furniture. The complimentary tea/coffee facilities in the lobby were filthy. We were given an upgrade - would have hated to see the original room we were booked into. It was drap and badly needed decorating - boutique hotel - I don't think so. Two plus points the beds and bedding were very comfortable and clean, towels were not. The staff were very helpful and efficient . We decided because it was so depressing to check out - I personally would not recommend it to any one

We choose this hotel for its prime location and fairly reasonable rates. We weren't dissappointed. The hotel is on Broadway and just off Times Square, literally in the centre of the city, no where is too far away. The hotel is fairly basic, but it is clean, has cable tv with lots of good channels, and does the job. My only complaint would be that it is fairly noisy at night (this really is the city that never sleeps) so we had to buy earplugs! But I think this is inescapable in New York. Also it was a bit drafty as the only heating is a wall heater (that seemed to blow out cold air) under the window. But it was fine, although in the winter this could be a big draw back. Definitely recommend though if you just want shopping and accessibility.

we stayed in this hotel for st patricks day last march (2007). we were there for 5 nights. the staff were very helpful and friendly, esp. the bar staff. the bar was small but very interesting if you're into cocktails! central location could not be better. the rooms were clean and functional. we took advantage of the twenty four hour tea and coffee, but be warned, new york never sleeps, so nipping down in the middle of the night in your jammies, you will be caught!! i speak from experience. I thoroughly reccommend this hotel. Enjoy!!

Review of 'AMERITANIA'

We stayed at the Ameritania in early October.  We had a room with two double beds.  The room size was fine.  The room was nicely decorated.  The Ameritania's location is convenient to the theatre center.  The staff was friendly and helpful.  We took advantage of the 24 hour coffee and tea bar.  There is a nice, small bar in the lobby too.

The Ameritania is an older hotel.  Thus, it has window air conditioners.  When we were there, it was chilly outside, yet the air conditioner was still in the window.  It was not possible to close its vent, so cold air was coming through into the room making it quite chilly.  We inquired about getting some heat, but were told that they don't turn on the heat until the outside temperature goes down to 45 degrees.  We didn't want to undertake finding another hotel, so we did the best we could to block the cold air, but we were still a bit chilly.  I would not recommend staying here unless it is summer or winter.

Having seen some bad reviews about the "Ameritania" we were a bit sceptical about it so I wrote to them and asked about a few things that I was concerned about. One of the managers of the hotel group emailed back and made me feel a lot more relaxed about it.    There were 4 in our party,3 in one room,1 in the other. Both rooms were plenty large enough, clean, well furnished, there was a free safe in the room,an ice bucket with room for water, milk etc and a free supply of ice. There was a free supply of coffee and tea 24/7 in the lobby. The staff were friendly and helpful, being near times square there was always traffic noise but after sightseeing and shopping all day it didn't stop us sleeping.I really can't fault the hotel in any way.  Being centrally located both central park and times square were a short walk away.  Great
