Albert

04 December 2007
Blanketed in blue fabric & scaffolding, Albert was in full restoration mode a la Christo. Our room overlooked the passengers on the ferris wheel in the park just across the street - or perhaps I should say that I suspect they overlooked us. The room was fine - no great shakes. There were a few GREAT people @ the front desk & a few less than helpful ones. The place was clean & in the middle of all things NICE. Excellent location - albeit a bit loud on weekend nights when there was a festival in the adjacent park... keeping the windows open was catch as catch can regarding the street noise... the breakfasts were non varying but adequate... the two Kon Tiki young "adult" tour groups that stayed there while we were there were VERY loud & BIG drinkers. Great spot for the price. Who needs a fancy room when you have the Mediterranean & environs @ your doorstep; so much to do & see.

We arrived late at night, there was someone at reception who spoke good english. We were on the top floor, the lift served all floors. Our room was basic, but clean and had great views over the park, promenade and sea and could only just make out the airport at the other end of the bay, which never caused us any disturbance. The Hotel is in a great location, on our left was the old town which carried through to nice harbour and our right was the new town with plentiful designer shops, and the mountains in the background. The local transport is often and easy to get around, there is also a little coach which takes you around all the points of interest. Overall i would visit this hotel and resort again.

Review of 'ALBERT PREMIERE'

Arrived very late about midnight but they have a 24 hr check in. My French is rusty but the guy on the desk was very good with his English. Room was tired but clean, bedside cabinets and individual reading lights and a desk and two chairs. We has singal beds which were comfortable. Bathroom had very dirty grouting around the tiles, and the shower had a loose spray head that you had to hold in position with one hand whilst washing with the other. I managed to ask the janitor who I met while he was changing a light bulb in the lobby if he would fix the shower ,which he did the next day. Clean towels were provided
every day. All the staff at the desk spoke good english. The breakfast was served from 7.30 to 10am which gave plenty of time for those who rise late. The breakfast was continental and plentyfull. The promenade was approx 30m away, and a few steps from the old town.A very convenient location. We had a roadside room with a view of the sea, but the double glazing and inner window did a great job and kept out the traffic noise. The room walls are very thin and you can hear your niehbours having a shower. There is a lift to all floors if you have heavy cases, and plenty of information about Nice in the lobby. Take Bus 98 4euros each way from terminal 2 to Albert1 Gardens near the hotel 50m away and use it for a return, runs every 20mins.  All in all a good hotel for the price in a great location.

Albert Premier is in a very central position in Nice with a good view from our room.  However the room was very small and we could hear every sound from the bathroom of the room next door.  Breakfast was basic but all we required and the waitress was very friendly.  Reception staff varied, some better than others.
