lovely hotel mainly because of the friendly staff who always had a smile and helped with all that was asked of them, even though some could not speak much English and i no Spanish. Rooms basic but very clean good value for the money we paid. Bonus was a fridge in our room. Staff excellent but managers or owners who swanned around doing nothing did not make us feel welcome and needed to treat the staff more politely. A good 4 km from Nerja which was ok if your a good walker taxi was 8 euros. Village of Maro was a short walk away had a lovely spanish bar where staff were friendly.

An unexpectedly lovely week - June 2007
30 June 2007
This was our first visit to Spain and we selected this Hotel for value. It was pleasing to find the hotel was away from the hustle and bustle of central Nerja. But very easy to find being just by the Caves of Nerja. Although the staff did not speak english, we got by with sign language. The room was of a good standard and breakfast OK for the money. The E15 which runs alongside was noisy at certain times of the day but not at night. The pool was lovely and had a nice garden. This was an excellent base to explore during the day, have a siesta early evening and then down to Nerja from 2100-0100. A complementary bottle of sparkling wine on the last night was unexpected but welcome. We think you will enjoy this hotel for its value and simplicity which gave us more euros to spend on the lovely seafood in Nerja and Herradura.

Travelled to Spain to complete on our own property so booked last minute and stayed 8 days. Lovely hotel, clean adequate meals on half board could do with another couple of dishes.Breakfast as expected - fine.Staff generally very friendly.Lovely small pool and garden area.Maro village worth a visit walking distance. If we ever needed somewhere to stay we would go back to this hotel. For the money it was brilliant value.

The hotel was basic but clean and the rooms tidied on a daily basis, the air con was extremely welcome! The staff were always friendly and helpful and although we were bed and breakfast we ate at the hotel in the evening on a couple of occasions and the food was excellent value. we would certainly stay again.

We thought the hotel very good, though it was a short bus ride from Nerja it was all the better for it, it was very spanish, the food was excellent,( they did a 3 course residents menu for 9 euro or you could go" a la carte " ) and the room was cleaned every day and towels changed. We met couples who had been returning there for many years, and we would certainly add it to our holiday list for the future.

I chose this hotel on the basis on previous reviews - cancelling my booking with another hotel. I am not sure that I did the right thing. On arrival, I was not very impressed with the level of service. I found most of the staff, except one receptionist, very sullen, unfriendly and unhelpful. The reference to excellent food did not materialise for me or my family, as the choice was limited by the fact that we had paid for half board. The fish we could have was not that on the main menu but cheap ones such as sardines etc. The breakfast was quite mediocre and was not helped by the fact that everytime we needed hot water for a drink we had to ask one of the staff to get it from behind the bar, as if we were imposing. The location is fine for the Nerja caves - excellent in fact, but a nightmare to get to town. Buses are available, but infrequent and we ended up walking for fifty minutes in the blazing sun on the way there and waiting for a bus for one hour on the way back. The beaches in Nerja are - surprisingly - crowded and appear tacky to me. Added to this, I question the cleanliness of the rooms - I opened my wardrobe to find clothing left from the previous occupant. Furthermore, when my airconditioning actually started working - it also started leaking! Last, but certainly not least, was the lack of hot water on my first evening there. After the previously mentioned long walk I desperately needed a shower, and ended up having to have a cold one. Considering the following stay I had in a hotel next to the Alhambra, at the equivalent cost with an exceptional buffet and high standard of rooms, I think this hotel has poor facilities and a low level of service and not one I would opt to choose again.

Only 45 minutes drive from Malaga Airport, the Hotel Al-Andalus is clean, has friendly helpful staff and a daily maid service which includes a change of towels. The swimming pool is situated in a grassy area of the garden and although small it was more than adequate for a cool dip, after a scorching hot day. Evening meals were a delight with the waitress enthusing over her menu of local fish, meats and wines. The hotel is used by local and international travellers and is within easy walking distance of the beautiful village of Maro and the magnificent caves of Nerja, which boasts the largest underground chamber in the world! The busy town of Nerja, for entertainment and shopping is only 3 kilometres away. The road network from Al-Andalus is excellent, whether going to small villages and beachy coves (where we enjoyed the excellent local cuisine and wines), travelling north to Granada (the Alhambra is a 'must see') or east to the picturesque towns of Herradura and Motril. A very "Spanish" hotel to which we will return.

Delightful small hotel. Everything you should need, without lots of 'frills'. Extremely clean, good food. Small pool, but quite honestly it was big enough as there never was many people using it. A car would be useful as it is a few kilometres out of Nerja, BUT there is a bus service, just down the hill from the hotel. This goes into Nerja and along the coast. The famous caves of Nerja are just a few hundred yards from the hotel. Also within walking distance is the very pretty village of Maro which has a number of bars/restaurants. We would use Al-Andulas again.
