Acro Hotel

17 February 2010
We searched the web for HOURS to find a decent hotel in Amsterdam and finally went for Acro. Great 2* Hotel situated by Rijk Museum with 5 min walk from tram 2 or 5 and the Canal Bus stop. Clean, warm (very warm!) and tidy with basic amenities. Room a little small if staying for length of time but ideal for 1 or 2 night stay. Toilet & shower basic but clean and very hot water! Set on 4 floors we were floor 3 at the very top but having a lift made it easy as stairs a little steep! Reception was ok. Guy on arrival was welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was fantastic. Great choice and plenty of it. Hotel had a small but cosy bar next to reception. Would go again.

Amsterdam in April

First of all, booking through AlphaRooms is quite efficient and trouble free. We got a slightly better deal from it than from other on-line agencies. Acro Hotel is nicely located. It is close to Vondelpark, Leidseplein, Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Costa Diamonds. So you can go to these tourist attraction any time you like. It is very near the tram station, and trams No. 2 and 5 can take you to the Central Train Station in about 15 minutes. From Schiphol Airport, most people would take the train to Central Station and take the tram to Hobbemastraat, where the hotel is situated. But actually you can take the train to Amsterdam South (Zuid) and then change to tram no. 5 to get to the hotel. There is another way, too : You can take Conexxion Bus no. 197 from Schiphol to Leidseplein. The bus stop is 5-10 minute walk from Acro Hotel. How you rate the Acro Hotel depends on one's expectation. It is a 2 star hotel, the room is very small. At first we were given a very long and narrow room with two beds arranged head to head and a small toilet. Later our request for changing to a slightly bigger room was entertained readily. I think it could be a problem if one goes to Amsterdam in high season period. Breakfast is alright, with some cold cuts, cereal, boiled egg, bread, coffee and tea. But the menu never changes. The staricase is very narrow. The staircase going down to the basement breakfast room should better have a hand rail for elderly people. The staff are nice and helpful. Although there is no kettle in the room, you can ask the staff for a cup of hot water if you need it. The street environment is nice and quiet, but if there are any hotel guests coming back late, or talking at night without restraint, you could hear it clearly in your room and have your sleep disturbed. All in all, for the price you pay, I guess it is worth it to stay in Acro.

Acro Hotel Amsterdam.

14 May 2007
Hotel situated half hour stroll from dam square. You can get trams very frequently which are stop a 2 minute walk from the hotel. The rooms are only very small and we got a bit of a shock when we first opened the door to the room. They are basic but this is what you get from a 2 star hotel. The steps going up to the hotel are very steep and are not suitable for the elderly or children and there did not appear to be any other way to acess the hotel other than these steps. There was only one lift and you had to use this as the steps leading up to all four floors are very steep again. The problems with the stairs are to do with the history of the country as people were taxed on the width of their stairs. We had no problems waiting for the lift.Breakfast was included in the price and we found it exeptionally good value.Good bread.Nice thinly sliced cheese and ham.The drinks machine was hot so you could get a good cup of tea.The hotel bar was all new and clean, although the prices are as sleep as what you would pay at most bars. The rooms were clean and the bathroom had recently been upgraded with good quality fittings. The bathroom was small as well.On out last night it was noisy as there was alot of teenagers and the sound seemed to travel that you did not know from which room the sound was coming from. The floors in the rooms are laminate. We had a safety deposit box you paid £10 deposit that you got back before you went home. The staff at the hotel are super friendly, but all the Dutch people are super anyway.Good hotel to stay at if you are on a budget, dont mind alittle bit of claustrofobia or be prepared for some noise.
