Just returned from a 3 day break with my three grown up children. The hotel was excellent, spacious and modern and the staff were so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. One tiny fault, sockets not near mirrors, so you girls, take a lead.

Brill Time but HOT HOT

25 June 2008
Just returned from our 1 week stop 17/24 June! Luxurious hotel, very modern, loved all the modern art and floral displays. Location fine, breakfast brilliant everything and more! Air con not working properly they did try to fix but failed - but it wasn't too hot but would have been any later in the year. Staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. Lovely and quiet as normally I can't sleep so rooms were very soundproofed! Shower bit tempremental but it all looked so lovely and we would definately come back. Thanks to all, our team loved it too and will all return again. So do book as its very good value!

Great hotel

25 June 2008
Just returned from weekend break and would def recommend this hotel to anyone wanting: Great location, not far from Las Rambles. Friendly, efficient staff, CLEAN!, modern bedrooms, smashing little bar and cafe next door for those times when all you want to do is chill. I am going to stay here again, no doubt! Only thing missing, no kettle/tea/coffe facilities in the room, but minibar.

15 June 2008
Stayed at this hotel 4-7june 08 on our first visit to Barcelona, found the location very good and easy to walk to Ramblas. The hotel rooms were very spacious and well equipped and the jacuzzi was great to relax after a long day exploring Barcelona. The staff were all friendly and helpful and breakfast was good but our meal in the restaurant on the first evening was poor but was soon put right. Would reccomend this hotel and would use again if i ever revisit Barcelona.

Acevi Villarroel Review

29 June 2007
We stayed here for a long weekend. The hotel is a 10 - 15 minute walk from Las Ramblas however, there is a metro station at the end of the road which runs every 5-10 minutes and is very efficent and cheap! It also takes you all over Barcelona to the major sights so if you dont want to walk you dont have to. The walk to Las Ramblas is a very pleasant one past the Univertsity and past lots of places to have a drink or experince some wonderful Tapas. The hotel was very good and I would recommend it to people of all ages. The rooms were spacious and very clean with all the mod cons, air conditioning, fridge, TV, CD player etc. The hotels staff were all very helpful and spoke good English. They helped us find all the main attractions, with bus times, Metro prices etc. The hotel also provides towels for the swimming pool. This is not the biggest pool, but it was lovely on a hot and sunny day to be able to take a dip in the water. The breakfast in the hotel was good and even had English tea as well as a wide choice of things to eat. Overall we had a great time in Barcelona and really enjoyed our stay at the Acevi Villarroel Hotel and would stay here agin.

I went with my dad for 3 nights to see Barca play it was a great hotel cos the rooms were very posh and clean, the maid came every day.  Where it was was great cos it was next to the subway and near Las Ramblas. The reception staff gave us loads of maps and information and looked after my tickets for the game before we arrived. The swimming pool looked cool with all the loungers and I hope that we can maybe go back and use the pool in the summer.  There were loads of great bars and restaurants around the hotel and my dad and me had a great boys weekend. The restaurant was like something out of a 007 film. I have had a great time annoying my sister about what a great time we had while she was studying at home with mum. There was nothing wrong with anything at all in the hotel, in fact it was class!!

The Hotel Acevi Villarroel was a lovely classy hotel.  The facilities offered were great if we had had the time to use them - Spa etc. DVD player in the room also.  The air conditioning was good (we needed it to heat the room rather than cool it).  The breakfast was also great - everything you could want.  The downside for us (two single girls in our late 20's) was the location, it was a little bit further away from Las Ramblas than we imagined (a good 10 minute walk once we got our bearings).  Had read reports about the hot water and unfortunately it is true, one minute it is boiling hot and the next there isn't a drop of hot water left in the tank.  Finally, if it is shopping you are going for remember the main shops do not open on a Sunday!!

This is my second visit to the Villarroell. I chose this hotel again as it ideally situated for transport links, shops, bars and restaurants.
The hotel is in the heart of the Barcelona Gay scene and although not a gay only hotel it is gay friendly.
The hotel itself is nicely decorated in a minimalst style. It's clean and very comfortable.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone, single, couples, families, business travellers.
Alpharooms always seem to offer the best deals as well!

21 August 2006
The Acevi Villarroel is a stylish City centre hotel with good amenities and very friendly and helpful staff.  The hotel was a very good choice and I would recommend it to other travellers.

We had booked a family room and were given two rooms with an interconnecting door which was great as we had loads more space than expected.  The rooms are very modern and comfortable.

We used the restaurant for breakfast (a hot and cold buffet) which was good (15 euros each).

The pool was not huge but what you'd expect of a City centre hotel, enough for a dip and a cool down.  It was surrounded by a decking area with loungers, tables and umbrellas.  Towels were available from reception.

The staff were very helpful.  Always happy to answer any queries.  They happily arranged a taxi for us to travel further up the coast when we checked out.

All in all I'd say it was a good hotel, a little away from the tourist sites but easily walkable, or a short taxi journey away from the major tourist sites.  The metro stops were very close.

Fantastic hotel and a great location. The hotel was very modern and the rooms were of a very high standard, especially the bathrooms which were the best i have had in a hotel anywhere!
The breakfast was great value too and would recommend it although there are plenty of eating options within walking distance.
The bars and restaurants around the hotel were much cheaper than in the tourist areas. It is about a twenty minute walk to the Ramblas but public transport is available outside the hotel entrance.
A great value hotel and i would definately stay here again.

thumbs up for acevi

07 August 2006
My boyfriend and I have just returned from a four day stay in the acevi hotel. When we arrived we were greeted by extremely helpful and friendly staff. The lobby is clean, spacious and stylish. We stayed on the second floor in a beautiful room that was stylish and clean, with great air conditioning, and tv with cd and dvd player. The view wasnt great from the window but this didnt bother us in the slightest You can rent dvds from the lobby at a cost of around 6 euros, they had a good selection. Id highly reccomend the jacuzzi which is on the bottom floor, but the pool wasnt that great, it was too shallow. The main fault I had regarding the hotel was the menu in the restaurant. I'm a vegetarian and they had no main course that catered for this, so I ended up getting a starter for my dinner which in my opinion wasnt satisfactory for a four star hotel. The residents bar also closes at 11.30pm which was also a bit dissapointing. The hotel is situated only a short ten minute walk from the ramblas and the staff were very helpful in giving us directions. We woke up late every morning (the clubs in barcellona stay open until 6am) so we missed the breakfast but the cafe right next door is fantastic with great staff. They also have free internet access on every floor which was great and they basically have thought of everything to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. When we were leaving they held our bags in the lobby for us and also rang a taxi that came right outside the door to take us to the airport. I would highly reccomend the acevi and would stay there again when we return. A great stay for a very reasonable cost.

A warm welcome with attentive friendly staff together with a cool, well appointed room provided welcome relief from negotiating Barcelona's one-way system by car! The underground car park gave peace of mind as we explored the city on foot or by the tourist bus, although the daily charge was unexpected.  We enjoyed a relaxed meal in the hotel restaurant with excellent service and a good choice of food -well cooked and beautifully presented. The Acevi is a good brisk walk from Las Ramblas and environs but we found plenty to interest us on a varity of routes -it pays to look upwards in Barcelona.  The buildings are frequently a delight. So much to see and do in this vibrant city!  Next time, we will take advantage of the hotel pool too.

Hotel was all the reviews said and more.  Towels for the swimming pool and sauna and jacuzzi facilities - you only needed to take your toothbrush. Wonderful service and good breakfast.  However the situation we found was  far from the details given on the "net".   The Sants station was not "just round the corner" nor was it walking distance from The Ramblas in fact we found it a long walk just to get to the tour buses and took frequent taxis because of this.  It is a shame that the hotel is not nearer the centre of town because it was a wonderful hotel.

Just returned from a short break away with friends in Barcelona, staying at the Acevi Villarroel. The hotel is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a quality hotel at a reasonable price in an ideal location. I would certainly recommend the hotel and would happily stay there again.
Having decided to stay at this hotel from reading the reviews on this site, we were not disappointed. The rooms are spaceous, modern and comfortable. We had 3 twin/double rooms, adjacent to each other, each had a different layout and style of bathroom but all were excellent. In fact the bathroom designs and sizes although different were all superb.
The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, the buffet style breakfast was very good with choices of hot and cold food. We found the bar prices very resonable as was the resturant menu.
The hotel has a selection of leisure facilities including a sauna, gym & jakussi which are a nice bonus when on a short break away.
The location of the hotel is ideal, being only a 10-15mins walk from Sants Rail/Bus station. 10mins walk from Playa Catalunya and if travelling by Metro is only 3-5 mins walk from Ugrell(Line 1 RED) The metro system is an ideal way to travel around the city and a day ticket cost only 5 euros for unlimited use within zone 1 for Metro,Bus or Tram services.
The Acevi Villarroel is certainly an excellent choice in my opinion and worthy of its 5 outa 5 rating!

Review of 'ACEVI VILLARROEL'

23 February 2006
The Acevi Villarroel is west of the old town and about 15-20 minutes walk from Las Ramblas.  As soon as you pull up to this hotel you can see that it is ultra-modern even though it is terraced within the other buildings.  The lobby is clean, fresh and bright and gives you the feeling that you have picked a good one.

This is a business hotel and so check-in is efficient and easy.  There are no racks of tourist information like you get in other hotels but you are given a good map at check-in.

Our room was a rare triple but it looked more like a twin with an extra bed slotted in because it was placed across the wardrobe – but that was no real problem. The wooden floor was smooth and cool.  There was a TV and a CD/DVD player ( DVDs could be hired from reception) and a free safe in the wardrobe.  The bathroom was splendid with toilet, bidet, shower and separate bath.  The only downside was that the wash-hand basin was in the bedroom, admittedly behind the wardrobe, but I have never liked this setup.  However, I got used to it after a couple of days.  The TV boasted BBC 1 on channel 23 and CNN on channel 24 but I never did find BBC 1.  There were a few German channels, 1 French and the rest were either Spanish or Catalan.

Just outside our door was a desk with two free internet PCs – privacy was maintained using translucent glass shields.  You had contact with the world on-tap!

The breakfast was nothing to write home about – an average business, continental affair – but again no big drawback.  The staff were very friendly especially the barman who did not know that a scotch is not poured in the same quantity as a glass of wine!!  Cheers mi amigo!

There are lots of restaurants around the hotel if you do not want to go back into the heart of the city and they should cater for most person’s tastes – meat, fish, pasta, pizzas, vegetarian etc.  Right next door on the left is the Salvi which is a good choice but not open on Sundays (speciality buckwheat filled pancakes).  La Bella Napoli across the street is OK but the language barrier can get you the wrong meal.

The hotel was absolutely superb.  Very minimalist in decor - beautiful bedrooms and bathrooms.  Breakfast was good too - unlimited proper cappuccino!  2 minus points - Firstly, the bedroom was too hot (not down to us I have to add) and, secondly it was a bit further away from the Ramblas than we were led to believe.  But a fantastic find nevertheless.

As 4 friends who meet up annually for a long weekend of fun, the Acevi Villarroel provided the perfect base for our holiday.  Within walking distance to the busy bars and restaurants on Las Ramblas, the staff at the hotel simply couldn't do enough to help us see everything that we wanted, booked us into one of the most fabulous restaurants in Barcelona, provided us with maps and directions and booked taxis whenever we needed them.  The hotel was modern and tastefully decorated, the rooms were spacious, clean and once again, very modern and made us feel quite 'posh'! We did have one problem with the room concerning the hot water and a memeber of staff was with us in minutes to correct the problem, a first class service! Another nice touch was because we were 4 friends booked into 2 twin rooms, they had the forethought to give us rooms with an interconnecting door - great fun!  Recommend the Acevi Villarroel to any one wishing to go to Barcelona, great facilities, great location, friendly and helpful staff and great memeories!

Birthday stay at 'ACEVI VILLARROEL'

21 November 2005
Travelled to Barcelona to celebrate a friend's birthday and stayed at the Acevi Villarroel for 2 nights.  The Hotel was brilliant!  Very clean, beautifully decorated, modern and perhaps best of all, very helpful, friendly staff who couldn't do enough to make our stay a pleasant one.  I am really struggling to find anything I can complain about but I suppose the only thing we missed was having tea/coffe making facilities in our rooms.  The aforementioned advantages/plus points far outweighed this minor problem.  Would happily reccomend this Hotel to anyone.

Our trip to Barcelona was enhanced by our stay at the Acevi Villarroel. The staff were very helpful and polite and the bedrooms were spacious and spotlessly clean. The bathroom was much more impressive than any photograph we were able to find of it (and we checked many sites before booking with Alpharooms). The hotel was an easy ten minute walk to the Ramblas and Placa de Catalunya and, because of this, was a four star hotel at cheaper rates than more central three star hotels. We did not have an evening meal in the hotel but there are a few restaurants in the vicinity and plenty in the centre. We had a late night drink in the very comfortable hotel bar and we would definitely stay here again and would recomend it to anyone.

Review of 'ACEVI VILLARROEL'

I had read the previous reviews and that was why I booked the hotel. I felt they were all good and usually most people only write reviews when things are bad or when they are unhappy with the hotel and want to complain.

I have to agree the hotel was fantastic. The room was quiet and dark. The bathroom big and clean and the toiletries were excellent, you only need bring your toothbrush/toothpaste.

It is a continental type bacon/sausages and scrambled egg for breakfast, but there was plenty of fresh fruit, bread, juices, yoghart, hams, cheeses etc to choose from.

We enjoyed relaxing at the pool after a hard days walking and the hotel supplied the towels free of charge.

It is a good 10-15 mins walk to Cataluna Square. I like walking and enjoyed the walk. The area is a gay area but also much quieter compared to most other areas. We stayed for a week and would strongly recommend it to all.

Review of 'ACEVI VILLARROEL'

07 September 2005
Getting to the Acevi using public transport couldn't be easier. The closest Metro station is URGELL on Line 1 (exit to the right on the Metro platform for Ca. Villarroel when travelling from Sants) From here it's a 5 minute walk to the hotel - take a left on Ca. Villarroel when you come above ground.

Service was efficient and friendly - I had problems with my room safe and reception promised it would be sorted out within 15 minutes and sure enough the odd job man came as promised after quarter of an hour. In my experience 15 minutes translates as nearer 45 minutes when asking hotel receptionists for an ETA !

I stayed in twin room overlooking the rear of the hotel, which was by no means tiny but not overly spacious either. The decor is minimalist and modern. The room was exceptionally clean and stayed this way throughout my stay. My bathroom was particularly nicely finished off in glass and green marble. The room was somewhat gloomy with little natural daylight. However, because of the way buildings are laid out in Barcelona, apparently this is not unusual.

The facilities are a very good - a small, basic fitness room, sauna and jacuzzi (which was out of action and in the middle of being repaired during my stay - which was a pity). The hotel has a small outdoor pool and large decked area for sunbathing - great for catching a siesta between sight seeing and getting ready for an evening meal.

I didn't use the hotel restaurant or breakfast at the hotel either so cannot comment on the food/service. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel (some of which are considerably cheaper) For a quick light breakfast try the bakery across the road - I can recommend an espresso and a delicious cheese and tomato pesto pastry!

The Acevi Hotel is well situated in the Eixample area and is a stones throw away from the heart of gay Eixample - in fact literally around the corner - so don't be surprised if you accidentally find yourself in a gay restaurant or bar. However, no need to be concerned as the locals are very friendly.

All in all, I would definitely recommend the Acevi Hotel - easy access to all the sights of the city by Metro whilst keeping a comfortable distance away from the usual tourist traps - well located in a friendly and colourful neighbourhood.

When I return to Barcelona, without a doubt I will stay at this hotel again. It presents excellent
